Frank is still in the band but only plays shows close to where he lives because of his day job. Hobbs is also an original member. Playing in a death metal band unfortunately doesn't make you a ton of money, so other members have quit because their other jobs pay more and they have families etc.

unfortunately heel/toe is pretty standard for most metal drummers on 240+ at this point.

This is not hell/toe tec ... but maybe is a kind of push pull tec ... heel/toe is a double stroke with less control but hight speed ... push pull is a single strooke ... RL (heel)+RL(toe)

watch the parts around 1:38 on again at .25 speed. its clearly R(h-t) then L(h-t). its heel toe double strokes dude....

Basically to have as much rebound on the head. Since he's using triggers he doesnt really have to worry about tunning since they will produce the triggered sound regardless

also avoids mis-triggering. If you have a non-muted skin on the bass drum not tightly tuned it resonates way more, which may result in miss-fires. the pillows swallow the frequencies and dampen the head. at least, that is the purpose I guess.

Yeah i know, but you really dont need a bass drum for that. You can just trigger a cardboard or bucket. Its a waste of an instrument in my terms. Also, I dont buy this superhuman doubles, i might be wrong, but it sounds fake

it kinda is a waste of an instrument, yes. however in a live situation you want to trigger since it is way easier to reproduce your album sound, so the kicks cut through the guitar amps and the rest of the noise, it is faster than to spend ages on sound-check and tuning and so on., in short it is just convenient. In theory, you could also trigger on some other surface, I have seen a lot of drummers using a small meshhead bass drum as a trigger, since it is not so heavy and clumsy to move around. A bucket or cardboad still might cause problems though, even if in theory you maybe could make a triggering device out of it. Heck, some drummers build their own trigger devices or you use things like E-kit triggers or laser triggers so you don't have to rely on your bass drum head anymore (in that case, the bass drum head is pretty much just for the optics anymore). the doubles are legit, if they weren't, you would recognize it. the other option implies someone just throws audio over the video, as has happend with some "playthrough" videos. I also don't like that. However, you can see and hear that most of the time, i.e. missing hits or wrong sound, timing seems a bit off (snare instead of tom played etc, sound delayed behind video). Clearly, here nothing of that sort happens, so conclusion --> legit. I also don't like to impute anything on anyone. I mean that is kinda the purpose of the video, right ? Showing you can do that shit you recorded for real. I know some drummers are guilty of some sort of fake playing or twitching their abilities, but that is their problem, it will show live that they aren't able to recapitulate what they did in studio. And Eric Morroti is pretty much a beast if you've seen some Videos from Killitorous for example.

Agreed on the triggers, but im still a bit fuzzy on the doubles. I mean, the guy sure is technical and all, but in some other videos, its just to perfect. Im not saying its audio over video obviosly, but it could be a modul that recognizes the pattern and corrects it, because ive never seen such perfection in doubles, and hes barely even hiting evenly when viewed over foot cam. Im not the biggest fan of techinal drumming, and ive seen guys that rip it, but this just feels sketchy

brian boyd this is death metal, its been growing and evolving since it began, i doubt that it will "become old quick", vocals are just a way or expresion, this genre is about different ways or representing agression, chaos, evil, in different ways and forms, and it is in us, as animals. Think of it like the horror genre of movies, another form of art, but this is another chanel of expresion. Nevertheless I totally understand you as for me at first I couldnt stand this type of vocals, but I understood what it is about, its a feeling

Hi David !! That's a great reply! And an awesome analogy for explaining it. I think I get it. My roots in the heavy stuff stems from Anthrax , mega-death to even As I Lay dying. As you can guess by now, I'm 47 years old. Still love Pantara and so much more in metal. Who knew that it can get even darker? (Keeping an open mind now...thanks)
