The suffolk engine runs well. I can't remember if I have already suggested doing a compression test on the Farmall, it would be the best way to find out if you have a valve issue
Hi Joseph, you did mention that, my problem is it don't have an electric starter, to hand crank the big engine for proper readings will not work I guess, other than a single cylinder would be easy with the pull start
You could pressurize the cylinder with air. With the rocker arms backed off listen if you air coming into the exhaust ports or the intake. This would let you know if you have a burnt valve . With the radiator cap off If air is leaking into the cooling system it will bubble. Indicating cracked head , gasket or block. Good luck on whatever you find out
That engine looks stunning and the start was impressive. Lots of options that could be the problem with the Farmall. I bet your neighbors would be fine if you told them you’ll be working to fix the backfire during specific hours. Good luck friend.
HENRY, yes I was thinking to let the neighbors know of my plans but I will have to left a note on about 25 houses in close proximity, I just might do that, thinking strongly about the idea
Hopefully you can get it figured out.. you've been at it for quite some time.. Lack of octane in the newer gas, let's it varnish faster.. Fuel stabilizer and octane booster help with that..
If you were still using the magneto I would guess that the impulse was tripping early. No back pressure on the crank start when it backfires ? Probably your petroleum is similar to what our gasoline was before they began experiments. Thank you Jan.
lol.. so you shook all the dogs up in the neighbor hood? I don't know what you have tried buy have you done a compression test ,,, also have you checked to make sure the distributor cap isn't cracked/
Yes Vernon, the dogs go crazy lol, good point to check the distributor cap, I put a new one on in 2017 so it is good plan to heck that out, I planned a compression test but the farmall have an odd bigger size plug than normal, don't know if I will get a tester with that size hole and the other problem it have no starter, not sure if a hand crank will really show the correct reading
