This song tapped into my deepest emotions and brought up memories of Christmas past that I had forgotten...this song is just pure nostalgia for me. Fantastic version.
WeAreFilmsNY has a making of clip on their youtube page now. They did 5 takes and used the 3rd. It's a 35 second continuous video shot when it's not slowed down. I thought for sure editing was involved but there wasn't. That's very impressive to me.
Wow, you take things so literal. Thanks for the history lesson. Although he may have not written the original song, he still wrote this arrangement of it. I'm sure that the person who wrote the original comment was fully aware that Sufjan did not write the original song. It is common knowledge that this song is an old Christmas classic.
I'll be home for Christmas You can plan on me Please have snow and mistletoe And presents on the tree Christmas Eve will find me Where the lovelight gleams I'll be home for Christmas If only in my dreams I'll be home for Christmas You can plan on me Please have snow and mistletoe And presents on the tree Christmas Eve will find me Where the lovelight gleams I'll be home for Christmas If only in my dreams
The little girl is like "lol I don't give a fcuk, I WANT MY PRESENT". I think she represents America, young, innocent, and focused on mindless consumerism while the world around it goes to hell in an orgy of madness and violence.
Sorry but Sufjan Stevens didn't write "I'll Be Home for Christmas", the song was recorded in 1943 by Bing Crosby and was written by the American lyricist Kim Gannon, and the Jewish-American composer Walter Kent. Buck Ram, who previously wrote a poem and song with the same title, was credited as a co-writer of the song following a lawsuit.
TheQueenaby well... subtextual suggestions of suicide... and the subtle family Christmas strains. and given his home life... I think it's a empathic tribute for how Christmas feels for the rest of us.
