I'm very (pleasantly) surprised at how perfect his voice is.. on CD you don't really think about it, but live it's hard to believe that his voice actually exists.. that.. way.. Very pure. Weirdly pure.
What I love most about Sufjan, is that when he gets on stage...he's not trying to be an entertainer, he's just sharing who he is (in a really really really amazing way). This guy is unbelievable! "Ingenious! Did you expect music this good to come from someone normal?"
isnt it weird when you're crying in your car to sufjan and experiencing this moment of divine beauty and vulnerability and then you almost crash your car and a wave of adrenaline flows through you and you're still kind of crying and suf is still playing but you are in shock and start to laugh at this completely new but still vulnerable and absurd moment that you're experiencing.
I feel relief reading all of you. Many of Sufjan's songs make me feel sad, happy, like crying or laughing, all at the same time. There must be something wrong with him and all of us, but I feel so lucky and thankful for his music
His voice sounds just as good in person as it does on the CD which is something most artists cannot say these days. You can help but surrender all of your attention to his performance.
Brilliant video, cheers for taking the time to post. Seen him play this in Gateshead earlier in the year, utterly breathtaking, stunning. Words are inadequate for this man's talent. I feel truly blessed to have seem him live, never thought it would happen.
All I had hoped for I kept inside your car The rabbit in the barn Most of all I wait I wait beside the door I wait beside the door And all I was wrong trembling in the cage I was diamonds in the cage In seven hours I consider death And your father called to yell at me You little boy, you little boy Found out you cheated me I ran behind the barn and cut my hands somehow Blood in the meadowlark I punched your ears instead I punched you in the head You only laughed and laughed and laughed How I was wrong tingling from the kill Tickle me until you devil bird you evil still I slept on my arms, I was sleeping in the sill I was sleeping in the room with you You little boy, you little boy How could you run from me now? The loneliest chime in the house The loneliest chime in the house You let it out you let it out Come to me Calvary still I'm weeding and raking until I'm bleeding in spite of my love for you It bruised and bruised my will Counting alluvial plains The breathing inside of the range You touched me inside of my cage Beneath my shirt your hands embraced me Come to me feathered and frayed For I am the ugliest prey, For I am the ugliest prey The owl, the reckless reckless praise You said you'd wait for me Down by the Tannery Creek Far out by the clotheslines where we used to kiss behind the sheets Wrapped in a blanket of red The owl and the tanager said The owl and the tanager said One waits until the hour is death
@TheAnthonyMicheli Huh? His shows are very loud when he does the, er, louder numbers. Not that he's renowned for being loud but the stuff off his latest record is throbbing (and very loud) when played live. That's one of the things that made this show so memorable, the contrast between his spectacular, showy and loud Age of Adz stuff, and then the quiet solo numbers he did from the ADP EP and Illinois.
This song touched me so deeply in a time I really needed it. I couldn't resist making a fan video for it. Check it out if you have a moment! It's the featured video on my channel. Thank you :D
He makes some great songs but I would rate this guy as the fruitiest guy to ever play piano, way beyond Elton John with his pink suits. Just come out man, it's ok, we can tell.
bro what do you think the song is about 😭 he sings about his identity all the time. he’s pretty much shouting it from the rooftops and he does it in such a beautiful way every time
