Ian Pasturan I found out more than just two. Now knowing most of his albums besides BQE, The Sun Came, Stalker, Exploding Whale and Enjoy Your Rabbit here are the songs that are in the rainbow spectrum. From the Illinoise album there is: The Predatory Wasps of The Palisades Are Out To Get Us, Size Too Small (which is also featured in Seven Swans) From the Seven Swans album while this song reflects more on Jesus the little twist in the song “I never knew a man could love me” could be a double entendre after all. From Age of Adz Futile Devices All for Myself (Def gay) “With hairy chests and well rehearsed I want it all I Want it all for myself” All Delighted People The Owl and The Tanager This song hints at it being about a closeted boy in love with another boy only to notice that his love shattered him and left him in a cage. The verse repeats hauntingly saying “you little boy, you little boy” From Carrie and Lowell All of me wants all of you Another break up song about feeling used yet appreciating such feelings. Call me by your name Mystery of Love Futile Devices (Doveman Remix) Visions of Gideon (although also can be for either male or female.) Planetarium an album dedicated to all the planets in the solar system we are living in. Only one song but it’s just a reference to Predatory Wasps “Methodist Summer Camp you showed me yours I’ll show you mine (love). The camp again is the place where he experienced those feelings for his friend.
I love Sufjan but this video is hilarious to me. The ridiculousness of the outfits and the choreography and the fact that it was on tv and jimmy looks like he has no idea what the hell just happened at the end is just too much
hands575 I know! That's what I did, I laughed when I first saw it. I guess you have to know their sense of fun and laugh along. This was his experimental album, full-on trip mode for everyone throughout the supporting tour, as well!
***** :) Yea, that's why I like it. Psychedelia is my shit. But at the same time you can kinda tell he hasn't tripped. Doesn't inherently understand the experience. I wouldn't recommend listening to most of it while uhhh 'under the influence', for multiple reasons.
what are you talking about? this song and the album concept, perfectly make sense with they're outfit and choreographed dance. did you find it funny because of it has no relation with his previous work? so what, i actually had more respect and admire for him when he pursuit this cause i always felt like it was an unfinished business for him since enjoy your rabbit record.
If you ever get the opportunity to see him perform just go. I've been lucky enough to see him with the Clogs, the National, and during the "Too Much" phase. His performance during the Age of Adz started solo acoustic with Seven Swans then the curtain rises behind him and he proceeds to kick it up a notch with crazy joyful singing and dancing. After he tears down the place he slays the audience with Casimir Pulaski Day and John Wayne Gacy. I get goosebumps thinking about it.
He is without a doubt the first person i've seen that ive been completely blown away by in terms of the quality of production. I make sure I see him every time he tours, it's a must.
After listening to Carrie and Lowell for almost one month, which is now my favorite album ever, I enjoy watching this. It shows that Suftan's work is not concentrated only in sad moments of his life. this performance showed a colorful side of him.
+Faris Irizevak I feel the same way! I loved Adz so much, it was so groundbreaking, never heard anything like it. Taking this stuff forward to the next level, that would be real interesting.
I absolutely love this. At first I was made slightly uncomfortable with all the dancing in the beginning, but then as I kept watching I just fell back in love with this artist. This performance, to me, is a great example of an artist who is perfectly authentic. Yes, the costumes and funny choreography is a tad over the top and borderline childish but if everybody will just take a minute and close their eyes, take their focus off of what they thinking they're seeing, and just listen… I think you'll hear some classic Sufjan Stevens musicality in there-- and it's brilliant. The drum part is so lovely, the bass line is sick, and the trombone solos were rockin' my socks off. It's even ironic how the lyrics tie into the performance. Everything about this performance is intentional, light-hearted, and well-executed. There are countless performances that are all lights/cameras/entertainment and zero substance. This guy, and his band, ARE substance.
All the odd costumes just add to the idea of a lost tribe of SF 60's hippies .. It actually their impression of innocence .. it's a sweetness you just cant quite put your finger on . THIS is actually important music
I don’t think there is anything childish or embarrassing about this performance. Listen to the complexity of the music score and the quality musicianship. They can dress or dance however they like, it’s genius!
This man is a genius, the true definition of an Artist, And this is also how all the modern music should be, not only complex in it's composition and settings but also visual. This performance is beautiful in so many ways, the decorations, costumes, the fact they learned to dance... Beautiful!. Maybe my only complain would be that he's still using his solo name, I mean yeah he does probably most of the work but I definitely think some people on that stage deserves also some recognition. Other than that, this is just perfect.
Iván Mont reminds me of Bongwater a little. cf their cover of Roky's "you don't love me yet" on David Sanborn show. Total sensory overload. Darling girl dancers too.
Maybe he invested in some solid stocks. Or maybe he secretly sells stuffed animals he makes himself on etsy. hah. well i do hope he does well for himself, it's hard these days.
Unless you were there for the Age of Adz tour, you may never know what it’s like to watch a vision and music coalesce in the most beautiful way possible. The show was lilting, apocalyptic, an absolute exploration of the modern soul brought by an artist at the absolute top of his game. I was there. I had chills. May God have mercy on our souls.
Very cool performance from a true artistic genius. It says a lot about Jimmy's musical tastes to have Sufjan and co. come and perform on his show. Sufjan Stevens is a cut above and Jimmy knows it.
This is what would happen if you gave a six-year-old hopped up on sugar cereal and wired from watching four straight hours of Saturday morning cartoons an unlimited budget and the directive "Show me what's in your head."--- And that's why it's fucking brilliant.
I don’t think there is anything uncomfortable about this performance. Listen to the complexity of the music score and the quality musicianship. They can dress or dance however they like, it’s genius!
Same! I’ve been listening to Carrie and Lowell, Michigan and Seven Swans… I’ve only heard this song here. Was listening over and over like you :) I dialed it up for a friend tonight. I’m getting the Age of Adz now!
Quest loved that shit. Syncopation. Great composition. Great lyrics. Great fucking fuck it performance. Wow. All I can say is wow. Props to jimmy for letting this air. We need more of this in the main stream.
Sufjan Stevens looks absolutely crazy, but at the same time he's a genious like very few on the music's industry (and I repeat: like very very few). On the other hand he clearly loves to inmerse himself on every ambience-spirit of his albums and that may look crazy, but it's part of his obsession with what he does. He's a true artist, living his art all the time.
the fact that Sufjan Stevens, with his crazy-awesome music and all his crazy-awesome costumes, played live on network TV...it's just so awesome I can't even say.
I'm just wondering if I've been unknowingly hiding under a freakin rock all these years because I'm just now hearing about this guy. Call Me By Your Name, either threw his music career into overload or I've just been missing his performances and such all these years until now.
THIS IS AWESOME. What a great song. They and the Flaming Lips have such fantastic, welcoming shows that could crack even the most stone-hardened statues of hipsters in the crowd to dance and possibly tear a few holes in their too-tight-to-move skinny jeans. I like this just as much as Illinoise, good artists can write a song in any shape or form.
