Hello everyone, in today's video we are taking a closer look at one of my favorite fruiting flowers - the sugar apple flower (Annona squamosa).
Sugar apple flowers appear on the sugar apple tree typically on new growth (so after you prune your tree). The flower has 3 pedals (sometimes 4) and first appears on your tree in the 'female' stage. Roughly 24 hours later the 'female' sugar apple flowers turn into a 'male'.
During the sugar apple flower transition from female to male, its sexual reproduction parts dry up (female) and also produce pollen (male).
If your sugar apple tree has no flowers you may create flowers by removing leaves from the tree. By removing leaves you invigorate the sugar apple flowers to re-appear.
Sugar apple flowers at times when first producing may turn black and fall off - this is normal as the sugar apple tree is preparing itself to go through its natural bloom cycle.
