The Brazilian sugar cane industry is booming. This is mostly due to the demand for ethanol which is used as biofuel. But a large part of the sugar cane waste is simply burned, resulting in increased carbon emissions and air pollution. Now a new project using German-Brazilian technology, will in future turn the waste into plastic.

So should they in turn burn coal to generate the electricity? Burning bagasse is considered carbon neutral since the plants "fixates" (uses/takes up) carbon dioxide during its lifetime, so it balances out.

The plantation cover 16000 hectors, so workers have to drive vehicles to monitor the farm-land.

Press the bagasse and carry it to the paper plant. Not only will Brazil be the first in sugar but also in paper production as well. 1 1/2GT/4=375MT de papier.

Harmful dangerous idea. Best to give cattle as fodder. No waste of resources.

Then put the cow dung in a biodigester and get biomethane for a cleaner fuel. The other digestate you feed to compost worms to get worm castings for fertilizer and more worms to feed poultry, pigs, and fish.

Before the bagasse is even considered, 44% of sugar cane stubble is burned on the field. This shows great stupidity. Money is being wasted. The bagasse could made into paper and card board.

This is from how many years ago?!?! In Brazil 95% of all sugar cane is harvested without burns now, the straws/leaf are left in the soil to protect it from drying out and loss of minerals in the soil and whatever is left of the leaves and bagasse is used to turn the generators producing electrical energy. Making sugar cane in Brazil close to 100% efficient.

Burning the bagasse in a furnace is no way near 100% efficient. Better to to aerobically compost the bagasse along with the skimming s for two weeks then anaerobically decompose in a biodigester to produce biomethane and fertilizer. Burning methane in the same furnace is six times more energy effecient than bagasse. The remaining effluent, already a good organic fertilizers, could be further submitted to vermiculture. Worms eat 3/8 their body weight every 3 days. Biodigesters and vermiculture is already established in Brazil just put the systems together in the sugar mill. Are you a Brasileiro?
