hi there, great video. i just got a 7-8 month old sugar glider. we got a big cage, lots of stuff to climb on, so she seems happy. but now we have been told that they should not be kept alone, is this true? should we get a second? if we got a second, are they territorial? please help me out with some info as we want her to be happy and healthy. thanks
Hello, first of all, I must say that your videos actually made me reconsider buying a glider - after watching some other ones on the internet and reading website info I thought they truly are a terrible hassle. Although a few questions from me: are there any good glider vets in Poland? Do they get sick easily and require a lot of veterinarian care? Is it true that you should never ever take them outside? And are they really so aggresive they will not get along with any other pet? Thank you!
Yes. Gliders should always be kept in pairs, much better health and happiness. It's usually easier to get them in pairs, as gliders are often born as twins and good breeders will want to sell them together and will often give you a slight discount to encourage that outcome.
Aww! I LOVE Sugar gliders! I want one so bad! I have $100 for my birthday which is May 13! I can't find any sugar gliders for sale around... If I do, they probually wouldn't be around my budget. I'll keep looking, I have 2 months + :o)
For an 8-12 Week Old Baby you will usually pay around 200-300 USD, which is usually the best time to get them since they haven't bonded to anyone yet. I also live in WI. so it may be slightly different for everyone but I have found that's usually around how much they cost from most breeders.. (:
I'm a college student as well as a D1 athlete and I'm seriously considering getting one. The only concern I have is how much attention per day it needs. The only reason I am not getting one this year is because I live in a dorm with a roommate and wouldn't want to burden him but next year I will be living in my own room so size isn't a problem. How long is too long to be gone throughout the middle of the day for classes and practice?
Would you recommend having your sugar glider neutered if they will be the only glider in the home or will they not need to be? How does it impact their behavior? Thank you !
Thanks for the video. I haven't gotten one yet. I love the fact that they're so loving. Btw, feedback on the video... in a word-cloud, the word "now" is going to be huge.
They are great little critters, and whoever told you otherwise is probably against owning them or else just thinks only they can own them successfully. They don't stink, and you can take them just about anywhere with you in a pouch all day long once you get them used to riding in a car etc.
This Sugar Gliders are really hot. In fact some of my friends have already had this creepy tiny gliders lols, sorry for the term. That was the term used by my lil sis to those sugar gliders :). I am thinking if I should gonna get a pair of them also maybe this coming February but guess have to learn more about them!
A couple in my neighborhood are moving soon and cannot take their sugar gliders with them. I think they are adorable and am considering taking them in, but I wanted to know if they will bond well with a new owner? If this is already answered in another video, sorry I haven't found it, please link :) thanks!
I would like to get a pair of gliders, the ones that I see available are both boys, is it ok to have two boys together? What is best? I also found 1 male from one seller and another from someone else, can the two be introduced fairly easily?
So glad to be finding something that is actually informative, been running in circles trying to research these little darlins before I get one, I like to find out all I can before owning and love the information I am finding here. Thanks so much for supplying it for us new owners.
You can but make sure to devote at least 2 hours of time with it. Truthfully though, just get 2. They are AWESOME in pairs and they really don't cost that much. Just get 2! :)
my brother gave me pair of this sugar gliders and now I wanna learn more about them, I want to take care of them for they were gift from my brother & I find them really cute.
Very glad I watched this. I am about to purchase one from a friend who breeds them, but I wanted to be sure that I got information from a reputable source.
I'd like to thank your for this information. While I've never been interested in owning this specific animal. I think that all future pet owners should know, 100%, what they're getting in to prior to ownership! Regardless of you're planning upon owning a cat, dog, or exotic; you should know what you need to do as far as care (you might be surprised)!
I thinking about becoming a new owner. I've had lots of animals but these look very interesting. Thanks Sugarglidervet for posting this video. I appreciate it.
I'm going to be a college student and really want one of these. I stay home most of the time except to go to class. Could I take one of these little guys to class with me in a pocket and be fine for a few hours? Or would it be better to leave at home?
While I really enjoyed this video for the most part, I would like to point out to you that you didn't actually start talking about sugar gliders until 2 minutes in. (Exactly 1:58 lol) Too much of an intro. Nice info though, thanks!
I have a question, i have had my sugar glider for about 2 weeks now, he is 9 weeks old, and I am having trouble with him wanting to jump off of me and explore around in my room. What can i do to encourage him to stay with me and not wonder off?
Hi, I've done my research on sugar gliders but I am finding a lot of trouble finding a breeder in georgia. Here you need to havep apers saying your glider is from a USDA certified breeder so you can't just adopt or find one on craigslist, if anyone knows where to find a breeder in Georgia I would greatly appreciate it if you sent me a meaasge.
I have a joey with me from a friend, I find it really cute that's why I accept it. I am not used to pet this kind of animal that's why I am now having my research & another concern is it doesn't eat well :(
hi, im from the uk and its really hard to find suppliments and such over here, i dont know exactly what to feed them because everywhere is telling me different things, my suggies smell very bad because of poor diet from their previous owner. I just want someone to tell me what i can feed my glider, how much and what calcium i can use as a substitute, as i can not purchase from the uk
I live in Tennessee and am looking for a young female suger glider. I am having trouble finding one in a reasonable distance. Do you have any suggestions?
if after some years I dont wanna have them as a pet will it be reasonable if I were to give it to some of my friends or even sell it to some other people?
I have always wanted a sugar glider(how can you not there so cute)but I always heard that their super messy they'll cover there pen in pee, that you need to order live bugs to feed them, and that they often bite and claw people. this video has cleared up so much for me maybe hen I am older ill consider getting a sugar glider.
I'm planning to get a sugar glider soon, and I notice you mention that they can be taught to do tricks like jumping to their owner when called. I've taken behavioral psych courses, so I'm somewhat trained in conditioning, but I noted that you suggest keeping treats to just one a day or so (which makes using high preference treats as training tools kinda hard). Do you have any suggestions for how to train them to do things like that without food incentives?
A lot of interntet sites like to say that because they are naturally colony animals, they cant live alone. They say that i cannot own only one sugar glider, because he will become depressed and start hurting himself.... I would really have it with me all the time, and play with him, and talk to him... Even stay up some nights to get to play with him when he is more active.... What do you think, could i get just one sugar glider and woould that be fine
@ixie122 I think that's not necessary true. Rats should have just as much attention and love as other pets. Bearded dragons tank set up is not very hard when there babies but having to set up a bigger tank down the road with appropriate materials kind of sucks. I had three pet rats and they had alot of room we took apart an armoire and made shelves with holes and latters it was big and i felt it was appropriate size for them.
Ohhhhh i want one. To me they seem like a cat too. And like a dog. Just like cats, if you feed them right they don't smell. They also just like to spend time with you. Even if you are not paying attention to them. Just like cats that lay on your lap. And they are like dogs like all the reasons that guy said. Ohhhhh they are soo cute. If I got a sugar glider and a kitten, would I be able to train the kitten to not attack the sugar glider? It would be so cool if the glider road on the cats back X
If you could compare sugar gliders with ferrets, which pet would you say is harder to maintain? I own a ferret and was just curious as to where ferrets fell in terms of difficulty in raising pets. :] And on the odor, I don't have a sugar glider but I assume that just like my ferret, cleaning their cage very frequently causes the odor to be less noticeable, if not non-existent (In addition to a healthy diet, of course).
PLEASE answer!! I live in Norway.. I don't think its illegal to have a sugar glider here! Anyway, I really, really want one.. I love animales, and would love to play and hang out with a sugar glider every day! I am only 15 years old, is it smart for me to buy one? And should I buy 2 so it dose not get lonely when I'm at school? How much does it really cost, and how can I get one? And one more thing! When you have a suger glider in ur pucket, can you go outside, or would it jump of and run away?
I've got a question, hope somebody can help me... I want a sugar glider, but I work 6 hours for 5 days. That would make around 8 hours leaving my sugar alone almost daily... Is that a big problem? Also, I'd like it to be with my mom when I'm not home, do they like other people or they only like to have and recognize 1 owner?
Hey, im looking into getting a sugar glider. Im a sophomore in college and ill be getting my first house next year so ive got a good place to keep them. Can you recommend a good brand of pellet food for gliders? I'd really like to keep them on the diet you've recommended but im not sure what brand makes a good food since they are such an obscure pet
hi, im thinking about getting a sugar glider sometime in the future. thank you for posting these videos, there's so much information on the internet saying so many different things that its confusing. is it ok to get one while im still in school or is it better to wait? as well, do they make a lot of noise at night?
im considering getting a sugar glider sometime in the future. all the info on the internet is very confusing, so thanks for posting this video, i was wondering if its ok to get one while im still in school, or is it better to wait? as well, do they make a lot of noise at night?
These little guys are so cute! I really want one as a pet, but my mom won't let me have one because she thinks that they will fly around everywhere and poop in her hair. I tried to tell her that they don't do that and they are awesome pets, but she won't believe me. :(
Thank you for these videos. I hope it will help to end the mistreatment these gentle little critters have received due to unreliable sources such as expertvillage!!!!!!. I love all animals, and I think the key to having a good relationship with an animal is to understand and meet its needs.
please answer. i was wondering, for the sugar gliders diet, if i could just get baby food, crush up some pellets, and sprinkle some of the protein powder into it. could this, along with its water, be a complete supplement that i could just feed it this forever, along with fruit every once in awhile?
I was thinking why would other site are trying to say negative things about you Dr David Brust, hmmm all of you are just giving ideas it was just that different ideas about this Sugar Gliders. Some ideas don't match but I guess viewers will decide who is credible & reliable... have a great day!
THANK YOU! There is SO much false information from so called "experts" out there. I hope potential sugar glider owners looking for information take the time to sift through the sheer amount of links on the internet to your videos.
Hello (: i have a question... im thinking about buying a sugar glider, you said they smell if i feed them the live insects , should i not ? because you said they might have a strong Oder. If someone could answer me that would be great (:
Thank you. Your information is verry useful. Unfortunately, I'm on a native english user... is it possible for you to add subtitle into it ? By the way, I'll try my best to listen and figure out what you said. Thanks a lot !!
I just bought a sugar glider from our local pet store, she has had one previous owner and i havent even gotten to hold her yet, she also bites and crabs ALOT. How long do you think it will take for her to re-bond to me and get more friendly? Thank you
I am getting one of these!!!! for sure I've always wanted to have a pet I could have with me I don't care how much effort I have to put to take care of him =) I'm getting one!!! =) and diets that's my thing too ^-^
i have been watching the series of videos but i have one question, on the fruits and veggies does it matter if they are organic since the other ones have pestacides on them. Should i peel them for him too?
i have watched all of the videos and was wondering if u know ware any usda breeders are neer or in oklahoma i love animals and love sugar glidrs but have never owned one befor please reply if you know ware one is
I think the lowest maintenence pet is a rat or a bearded dragon. Sugar gliders act almost exactly like rats but they eat differently and they need more room.(and they glide -_-) I'm going to get one some time.
@PleatherMan indeed. I seriously wanted to smack that chick. her attitude i got from the video was just like" im an expert and your not so only experts should have exotic pets like this" agh! pissed me off.
Do they vary in activeness? What I mean is, you know how some dogs are passive, some are passive but playful but are able to relax, and some are outright wired all the time. Is any of that so with Sugar Gliders?
i have a rabbit i feed him pales and fruit and vegetables for a late night snack and he dose not smell bad and i let him run around the house all the time (he dose not have a cage) and ya he is kind of like a little puppy
I bring my pet to the vet near cause im a bit confuse that it doesn't move that much & I feel that there's something wrong with his condition, but sad to say the vet haven't treated its kind before, he is a lil bit confuse!!! :(
I am getting confuse on what to do on my sugar gliders, they dont have the appetite & look depress I dont wanna let them die but having some trouble about finances right now to visit a vet. I love them so much! :(
I want a sugar glider but I have a cat will my cat harm him because he is laid back and rarely agitated but I want to be on the safe side so will he harm the sugar glider and how can I fix this?!?!?
Good job mate! I've heard that keeping a pair or more is better than keeping one. Is this true? The rational is that when i'm not spending time with it, its partner could. Would you recommend this?

I have two young sugar gliders (2 months and 6 months) and in July I'm going on a long vacation but I can't take them with me. What should I do about them? The resort I'm going to won't allow them.

I have looked high and low on the internet for this book "Sugar Gliders: A complete Veterinary Care Guide" and have found nothing. As far as I can tell, the book does not exist.
what if you are a student and you go to school from about 7 to 3 and then you play with your sugar glider when you get home...is that sufficient enough for these little ones??
What about an owner who is pregnant? Would you recommend a sugar glider as a pet to a pregnant woman? Is there any reason I should hesitate to buy a sugar glider when pregnant?
i wonder if i try putting food in one pocket with it seeing and then when it comes out put on in the other and then same thing with another and another, that would be a fun work out ;D
I have messed with the configuration of my computer and still can't get any audio. Even went so far as to unplug one speaker. I guess I am just not going to be able to watch this video.
me either! my friend told me she has one and I was like what? we are friends and I didnt know. lol. they are cute. she may have babies soon, so i'm considering getting one.

Does anyone know where you can find these little buggers? I'm pretty sure you can't find them at PetsMart... then again maybe. I don't know, can someone help me out here?

I just wish he would pronounce the name of his profession correctly. It's not vetnarian. It's vetERinarian. argh. But good videos and good info...makes me want one!
when I'm out for work could I just let them out of their cage on my pad? im living alone in a small apartment so maybe I could easily catch them when I reach back home!
I am think of maybe getting one in the next year, but i am in the military so I am not 100% sure if I will be able to spend as much time with it as i need to.
