Glad to say I watched Leonard in his prime (1979 - 1982) at his best weight 147. Just a fluid machine at that weight. Also a very underated body puncher - Leonard could kill with hooks to the body. Difference with say a modern day Mayweather is he punched harder and really wanted to fight plus he had that rare killer instinct
When I watch Leonard, I always think of Greek mythology. Achilles with super speed, power and brilliance. Blinding speed, precision and physical genius.
Ray threw 5 jabs from 4:00-5:05 he was setting up his shots better than R.Jones used to do because he needed to wait all the time because he was too reliant on counters compared to Ray. Sugar threw 8 more jabs up to the end of that round and his lead foot was positioned outside Bonds southpaw lead foot cutting the ring off.
@@keithbrown3889that's all subjected to opinion some think Leonard was better than Robinson some don't, some think Mayweather was the best some don't it's all a matter of opinion
Same style used to beat underrated 36-0 Ayub Kalule in June of same year for WBA and lineal jr.Middleweight title.Leonard could fight the necessary style to win which is 1 reason he may be the best ever.
Your First Cousin (Larry's son) was built exactly like a Welterweight Mike Tyson. I remember KO magazine doing a piece on him something about "taking a dive" which was euphemism for him actually being a college competitive diver (idk which event ) LOL
Leonard was an assassin in the ring. A decision was not the kind of win he went looking for. Mayweather was happy to get yet another decision, but he would never get one against Leonard, just too much pressure.
Hey I Sugar Ray was a great boxer and a stalker he had a wide array of power punches and I I think you want to stop them or I don't know one-sided decision and he was much busier
I feel RAY LEONARD would have beat Floyd just like he beat his daddy Mosley was about 70 percent of what RAY was imagine if Ray got him hurt like Shane did!!!
Leonard is levels above Mosley with all the respect, but yes if Leonard catches him with that shot then Mayweather would get KOd quickly. And Mosley literally said he took that over the top right hand by watching Leonard films
The Over was 8 1/2 Rounds. Halfway thru the 9th, Sugar Ray(or friends/associates/family) had his money and he went right after him and easlily finished him in the 10th, after not doing much of anything for 9.5 Rds. You can see the same thing with Hagler vs. Mike Roberts(on RU-vid). And of course, the recent Mayweather vs. McGregor, where FM had attempted to lay Legal money on a KO after 9.5 Rds. That bet was declined in the Legal Vegas books, but was clearly made off book, as FM took him out right on time after carrying an outclassed McGregor from the 3rd Round on.. Sometimes there is is serious money to be made on the over/under and the fighters simply play it safe and walk around waiting for the money round and then boom. Sounds silly, but watch Hagler vs Roberts and say it doesn't follow the same script as this Leonard fight...Rather lackluster performance from the Champ, a better than expected performance from the Challenger and then, suddenly, the Champ simply walks in and takes him out without a worry or a care. Money is money......
Dont know why rhe crowd booed afterwards good fight for the Welterweight champion Sugar Ray Leonard WBC title till he brat zThpmas Hearsn unified title
No es que Lucio, esta pelea era necesario el alargue porque sería preparación para su sgte pelea ya confirmada contra el Zurdo Ugandes. Ayub Kalule campeón invicto Med Jr
Sugar Ray Leonard he go it all speed, chin, good jab, good left, good right hand, hit the body’s like nobody’s, he knows when somebody was hurt complete fighter… Maywether never was in this level… he not have a puch
Pretty easy to look good against Larry Bonds (who??), a guy who makes nobody's all time top 40 list. Leonard was very overrated. He had fewer fights than any other "great" fighter. Because whenever he saw a tough opponent coming up in whatever weight class he was competing in, he conveniently "retired." He was fast, and had decent power, but his greatest asset was his smarts and granite chin. If Thomas Hearns had Leonard's chin, he'd be the greatest fighter who ever lived.......
Wammy Pendleton, maybe those fights didn't happen because of the injury to the eye. looking back, Leonard didn't have a huge amount of fights because of all the premature "retirements", but the ones he did were big fights, money fights. That is the one thing I didn't like about Leonard, one comeback after another!
Agreed. I think Aaron Pryor had 2 chances to fight Leonard- the first, he turned down bc the purse was too low, and the 2nd chance was bc Leonard had to retire due to the detached retina. I think by the time Mike McCallum became a notable fighter within boxing circles, Leonard just wanted big fights where he would at least get paid big money (Duran in 1989 and Hearns the same year). Leonard fought Lalonde for the Super Middleweight and Light Heavyweight belts to be a 5 division champion which I don't blame him for. McCallum losing to Sumbu Kalambay in early 1988 could've also hurt his chances to fight Leonard. idk why Leonard would duck McCallum as some have said as he took on Hagler who had an iron chin also and is a larger opponent and Hearns 2x who was a KO artist.
@mcharleau ikr like they ducked one potentially dangerous opponent to fight a even more dangerous opponent I think when people hear someone was afraid of somebody else they just like to run with that
leonard needs to stop the show boating crap.. And the commentators are talking poo. Doing the windmill, and time index 13; 20 commentator saying the fight won't go another round.. Shows you what they know.. Marvin talking gobshit.
😂😂😂 Why did this fight even happen ? I was the biggest Leonard fan as a kid but now as an adult I realize this was a bs fight. A complete waste of time its the same garbage that Canelo does when finds people no one ever heard of to fight. This is why Mayweather says he's the best because he fought all champions once he became "Money May" while other so called greats would fight these waste of time fights in between big fights
