SRR was nearly 50 years old in this interview with nearly 200 pro bouts and look how alert and well his speech is, no slurring or slow thinking process, just shows how talented he truly was and no doubt the G.O.A.T.

05gtdriver Unfortunately, he did have brain injury from boxing. He would eventually die of alzheimer which most neurologist attribute to boxing.

He died 17 years later from diabetes and Alzheimer's disease. In addition to his 200 actual fights, the sparring sessions count as well. He was a true gent and gracious person. Money doesn't buy class, he had it naturally. He was my favorite fighter, but be fought fare pass his prime because of finances.

"the king is dead, all hail the king" isn't a compliment even though it's commonly seen as one. It's a really confusing saying, but its meaning is: We don't necessarily like king, but the king being dead is big news so we have to shout about it (the king is dead!). But don't worry, we now have another human to immediately replace him and bow down to just because we have to (all hail the king!)

Ray, sadly, years later became greatly affected in a negative manner by boxing all those years. Couldn't remember family members, etc. But yeah, he is the best ever p4p. Never beaten in a welterweigtht bout, and he had a about 100 pro welterweight bouts, world welterweight champ for years. Never lost a fight pro or amateur fighting in bouts sanctioned at welterweight (147 pounds) and below at times as a young amateur. NYC golden gloves champ 2 years in a row, even beat Willie Pep in amateurs when both were young teens. Welterweight Sugar Ray Robinson = P4P best ever in boxing.
@448DamonXX
@448DamonXX 2 года назад
@@nycinstyle negative mind
@nycinstyle
@nycinstyle 2 года назад
@@448DamonXX I am not being negative, I m writing the truth. Ray is the best ever, he trained and sparred and fought month after month year after year for decades. His mind grew senile early. His own family talks about it. He also developed diabetes in middle age. That had nothing to do with boxing. He was a fantastically conditioned athlete, but he stayed in boxing too long. You cant keep sparring and fighting getting hit in head and think you will be okay in later years. Very few are so lucky. Ray Robinson 5 feet 11 inches tall, strong, super fast, taleented skillful welterweight. Best ever. Ray Leonard, Muhammad Ali, Joe Louis and most all other boxers say it. P4P Sugar Ray Robinson is the best. Listen to RAy talk in his 60s. You will see what I mean. His own kids talk about it. Ray is the best and it even happened to him. You have to watch out in boxing so many years. Back then, especially, sparring, fighting so often. It happened to Ali. They had great lives. Later years boxing affected them. Who knows just because you are not mentally sharp anymore does not necessarily even mean you are sad. It is not an insult to say a boxer developed problems from his boxing when he entered his later years. Most of his life, boxing kept him healthy and strong and young. Being healthy in great shape automatically should make you a happier person. Sugar Ray Robinson had a great life. He was in good enough shape to box pro into his mid 40s. Look at all the fat out of shape slobs in their 40s today. lol I look up to Robinson. Absolutely boxing overall is good for you, IMO. You just have to be careful about sparring so many years so often and fighting tough fights year after year. Sugar RAy I wish he retired after he won his middleweight title back from Basilio, Even earlier he could have retired after he won it back by beating Turpin. Yet, he needed money and fought on years and years more. He fought on over a decade after he was already the best ever. He was welterweight champ, 2 time middleweight champ. Then he fought on way over a decade longer. Lost and won back the middleweight title 3 more times and ended up fighting even unranked boxers for very little money. That part of his life is sad. He had trouble handling, saving his money.

daboss000 Greatest is debatable. Henry Armstrong and Harry Greb could easily be ranked with SSR. Armstrong was a 3 division worldchamp in 3 different weightclasses and defended his belts for many years and fought everyone on his path, he fought SSR at an old age, a prime Armstrong is another ballgame. Harry Greb welterweight was the only boxer who fought black fighters in the 30's, had over 300 fights, and beat the undefeated lengend Gene Tuney and gave him his first and only loss: died at age 32. Sugar Ray Robinson stayed mostly on his division, so the term greatest is subjective here.

Purple Cadillac. Ray was the man. He made and spent $4 Million. Baller. Good for him. Fuck it. He's the greatest of all time. I'd love a shot at blowing $4 Million. I'd buy an orange Cadillac. Seems like Sugar enjoyed his life. Good on him.
