When I was in 6th grade last year I got to do a student teaching lesson with this song, I was so happy a couple kids said it would be lame but they were the ones who looked to have payed the most attention, I was just happy to share the passion that I had for music and the literary elements of music with my peers and I hoped that when they went home, the would listen to that song instead of their usual music, and think about what I showed them. . . . Mission accomplished
Heard this for the first time on the CNN Heroes telecast last December. I don't generally listen to country music and had never heard of Sugarland. However this song transcends genre and classification. It is simply one of the most inspiring and uplifting songs I have ever heard. OUTSTANDING.
My 6 year old son knows the words to this song. We live in Joplin MO. and he relates this song with the tornado. Since his moms work was distroyed in the tornado. Which she worked at the hospital. Thank God she was off that day.
Saw this show in Toronto. Next to Bruce Springsteen, this was the best concert I have ever attended (and that says a lot!). Sugarland puts on a great show. Jennifer Nettles is an inspiration. Such a talented person. This song was played near the end. The flag, passing it along the floor. The little girl who held it. Totally fantastic!!!
First time i heard this song about early 2010. I was wprking at Shudeal, Kelby was in Iraq on his 1st combat tour. I would walk into the grocery or be any place, just burst into tears.. My kneees almosr buckled under me at the hospital when I seen Ladon looking at his daddy, his hand so swollen in Ladons.. I think the combination of the two very different voices, fantastic guitar and great drumming produce some of the best music I've ever heard ! They're outstanding.
This song needs to be played more for people everywhere to get the point y'all are making. It sure gives one goosebumps, it is inspiring & it is something that the message gets heard in this song anywhere & everywhere in the world today
This was one of my favorite parts of the "Incredible Machine" show! Sugarland throws an amazing concert and makin this part of the show only made a great thing that much better.
The Incredible Machine tour is still to this day probably one of the best concerts I've ever been to - Little Big Town opened for them, and the whole show was amazing, the set, the music, the vibe - This has always been my fav song of all, powerful message! Just saw Sugarland as they came into town last night on their Bigger tour and am soooo glad to have you guys back!

They just used this tonight for the closing event before announcing the CNN Hero of the Year-- I cried -as they sang STAND UP and everyone stood up to support all of the heroes -- the Indian woman who has saved 12,000 Indian girls from Human Trafficking won. What a gift to the world for their song Stand up!! Way to go Jennifer & Christian.
we listened to this during the Names program at our school today! :) sticks and stones can break our bones, BUT NAMES CAN REALLY HURT US. think before you speak.
