This was a fantiastic video. Your channel is CRIMINALLY UNDERRATED! I especially like that this was a somewhat long term review, I trust these sort of reviews much more than reviews where the product was only handled for about a week or so.
Hello Mantis Shadow, nice name as I live in Japan currently I see lots of Mantis' walking around especially during the summer to autumn periods and I can totally envision that long cast of a mantis' shadow. Your words are too kind and I hope to deliver in the future more valuable content. I suppose though that at one point I'll have run out of watches as I'm not a hoarder but just a collector so until that time I'll continue to do my best and put reviews of watches I've actually used and owned. I've thought about what I should do after I've gone through my own collection, I have been tempted to purchase some watches now to get them aged and ready but to be honest I'm not very rich so I can only afford what I have so far and can't really spend much more. I guess it's just how life goes and I've just been fortunate and blessed enough to have what I have so no looking back and I hope that it will be enough. Cheers and best regards.
Hi younusimam-thesalamproject6340, thanks for having a laugh! Seagull offers lots of variations within their watches and of course some are much more dressier than others. I suggest you try visiting their website here: www.seagullwatchcompany.com/seagullwatches
The Sugess Ice Blue Chrono with the ST1906 (S412.03.E) would be a good choice for a replacement. These two are actually what I am trying to decide on during the 11/11 sale. Well, either one of those, or a San Martin Black Bay Pro GMT homage that looks quite nice. All 3 are under $150!
So what did you decide on? I have thought about the SM BB but well I have stopped purchasing budget watches of late but am always interested to know what people's buying habits are so let me know!
As someone who owns one of these, I can confirm the movement looks much better to the naked eye than on camera. Camera's struggle to capture it's true look for some reason
Hi Green alien. Totally agreed, it is quite shiny so at times it comes off too dark as the camera tried to compensate but when I turn that off it got very nuclear. Just goes to show the sensitivity and wonder that is the human eye and well brain I suppose 😁
I like the attention and sharing of facts, history, relevance, honest presenter voice (none of that vocal fry and silly "look at me I could totally narrate for films and anything". Overall proper and fantastic! I subscribed to the channel in the first 60 seconds AND - 7:01 Makes me ..."thirst for the dairy ....ooooh" , just awesome! This is truly an underrated (or perhaps simply lacking ratings) channel and producer. Keep going! You ARE quality. Try a breath guard or maybe a few bucks into a new microphone, your voice and the way you use it deserves showcasing :) Go man - GO! :)
Hello Glenn Perez, thank you for your comment, means a lot to me that people that don't even know me are giving me such strong words of encouragement. I have to admit that the past month has been a real struggle for me to work on any watch videos and put any content out due to my transplantation from Japan to Canada but I've settled down back home now and am almost ready to start working on the videos again. I do try and provide my own personal experience with all my watches and I do try and do reviews on watches that I have worn and used for extended periods. I do find reviews on watches with very little wearing experience to be lacking in actual honesty. But who knows maybe one day when I am being offered watches to review that will be me as well? haha I doubt it. I think rather than that I'd keep it and use it for awhile and well I'd just give the watches away I'm already running out of space and can't really find any more space to keep all these watches around. Underrated? I don't know I am not one to care for subscriber counts or how many views these videos get, that stuff isn't what I do this for, I really just like watches and I've consumed so much watch content here on RU-vid that I just wanted to give back to the community that really sparked my interest in watches and made me see beyond the usual Rolex and Omega riffraff. As for my microphone yea you think so? I currently use a wireless little microphone that attaches to my phone and sometimes I just use my phone. I'll have to think about this, it's $$$ that could be spent on another watch so I'll have to really look at the bottom of a bottle before deciding such a life altering decision. As always thank you for your comment and words, never ceases to amaze me the connections we make in this modern and crazy world of watch collecting. All the best and keep it real Glenn. -Martin
Hi Andrew, thanks for your support. I really can't put into words how much it means to me that someone I don't even know is actually wanting to see more of what I do in my free time. I hope I'll be able to deliver to your expectations and exceed them in the future! As always stay safe and keep it real. -Martin
It’s a very nice vintage looking chronograph. It’s a shame they didn’t do a better job detailing the dial and lume. Still for around $200 US it’s a pretty good bag for the buck. Nice review by the way!
Thanks a lot, I love some of the moon phase ones, not much pricier, and kinda cool for sailing for tides. And they have some nice automatics too, one of each and a broken seamaster to tinker with :) I managed to revive a fake Chinese watch that seems to have a Seagull movement. Seems to run fine now and it just got stuck with a hand that fell off. It's over 20 years old, automatic with date. It was fun practice but I need tools to do any real work.
Hi 221 b, that's awesome and great to hear. I always wanted a moon phase whether it be from Seagull or not. I just haven't been able to convince myself that it would be of any use to me. Though I guess I could just admire the aesthetics and not really care if it matched the actual moon. A set of tools goes a long way to do some minor jobs at home and I have also been thinking it's possibly time to invest in a smallish set so I can do some movement swaps and or get rid of some dust under the glass etc. I have some already but would love to be able to take handsets off and do crystal replacements etc. Thanks for sharing and all the best to you. Keep it real.
Hey nicocalimero, totally agreed mate, the top time has a very retro vibe and I've seen it floating around but I gotta be honest I haven't really been into budget watches of late. I did splurge a bit a few years back and I appreciate some of them and still wear them the ones I do have but I am not really into them as of late. Why? Well I can't put an exact finger on it but I guess I just know inside that I have much better and more quality watches to wear so they become a bit of an accessory to the main course. I'll wear them but not as much as the other core collection which gets way more wrist time. I think the budget watch sector really is good if you want to try a certain design of a watch before you spend over 100x the actual cost for the real thing. Overall, I love these Sugess watches but I don't love them enough to wear them on a daily basis though they certainly are capable and worthwhile to wear everyday, just not for me. Cheers and all the best from Vancouver, Canada. -Martin
Dude I like your style. I subbed. Ive been thinking about getting a st19 watch but unsure of what direction to go. I like the sugess 1963 stuff a lot, but I'm also looking at Lorier's chrono with the st19 movement WITHOUT a display case back, but with amazing finishing etc. I also did not know that they used plastic in this movement. Good to know... keep it up, love the channel
Hi Ryan thanks for your sub, it's a great movement I think overall for the price paid and yes it uses some plastic but I guess it can't be helped and truth be told, the same plastic is used by far more expensive watches so it's not too big of a concern. I suppose it's a piece you would most likely replace and not fix anyways so don't let it get it the way of an otherwise fantastic time piece. Best of luck to you regardless of what choice you make both the Lorier and Sugess are nice pick-ups. Cheers and all the best.
I have a watch with the same movement and it suffered a broken click spring. I sourced a new spring and installed it. When looking into getting the spring I found lots of threads about the click springs breaking. I still recommend this movement as it does offer a lot for your money.
Hi Coil Motor Works, kudos to you for having the knowledge and initiative to fix the movement yourself. I wish I could say the same for myself but I haven't tried it ever. Most I done was pop a bezel off to fix the gunk. Thanks for sharing and all the best. Cheers.
@@watchluster I love your review style. I wished my voice was as pleasant to listen to so I could over dub commentary on my videos and not cringe when I hear it.
Really enjoyed your review and had a chuckle at your Porn comment. The only thing you left out was how accurately the watch ran. I've become a first time huge fan and look forward to your next review.
Hi David, thanks for your comment. I don't usually speak about accuracy because I've grown accustomed to setting my watches everytime I go to rotate them. I've debated doing the whole timegrapher thing but well I feel like it's a bit like wasted effort. Thanks again and I look forward to delivering the next one soon. Cheers and all the best.
@@Stoneitful Hi Stoneitful, as mentioned I'm not really into accuracy so much when it comes to mechanical watches but your comment did get my curiosity up so I did a measurement using a cell phone app called "Watch Accuracy Meter" for my Android phone and the watch comes in at -1s/day. I would assume the accuracy will deviate as the mainspring winds down and the energy isn't quite the same as when I had just freshly wound it. Cheers and all the best.
Well, Sugess does have a chronograph with the ST1909 with the moon phase. I do have one of those with cream dial and don't have such amount of dust in the movement or the dial.
Hello Pedro Monteiro, yes thanks for sharing. I am aware that the ST1909 exists and I could purchase it but I'm not really into the moonphase complication at the time being, perhaps in the future. I've actually been eyeing a tourbillion complication, especially the cheaper ones I can get from Aliexpress as I think those are very nice to look at, it's a total waste of technology as the whole point of a tourbillion was to negate the effects of a watch sitting in a pocket but now that we all wear it on wrist it's actually pretty useless but man it's a nice little piece of tech to watch go round and round more so than a moonphase for me. In regards to the dust yes I been wondering after I did the video...maybe it was just mine? I am not that unlucky usually but perhaps I just got a bad watch from factory? I haven't handled enough Sugess watches to know for sure and at first glance it's hardly noticeable as the finish work on the movement obscures most of it. I only really noticed it under macro and as a daily experience it have no bearing at all what so ever. To be quite frank, it's pretty rare to look at the case back of a watch during daily use. Only when I have some time to myself or if I go to pick up a watch from rotation. Cheers to you and hope you have a good day!
Very lovely review! If you still have it, how has it held up after a year? I heard the movement tends to have long term issues at times, but Sugess seems to be one of the higher quality alibrands afaik.
Hi yes I still have it, and yes it still holds up after a year. The only problem being that I have noticed when I do a full-wind it has happened on a few occasions where it stops all of a sudden. And I need to wind it another click to start the mainspring again. Most likely has something to do with the tight clearances needed for a watch to function and having experienced Chinese made goods for most of my life I think I can fairly say that perhaps the quality of goods coming out of said country isn't as good as possibly other renowned watch makers in other parts of the world. Of course you can just pay 20 times more or worse for those other watches. I of course chose this....and of course as a watch lover I have all varieties and to be quite frank this watch is just as good as most other watches. Basically Sugess makes a good watch but you have to keep your expectations in line when buying from said brands. Cheers and all the best from Vancouver, Canada.
@@watchluster wow very comprehensive response! Interesting, I'll keep that advice in mind in case I encounter a similar thing when I get an ST19 movement myself :D Agree that budget comed with compromise, and also agree that such compromises are usually acceptable if expectations are kept in line. Cheers!
Hi stan lob, I take it that you like eggs? I actually really like scrambled eggs, with butter and milk and an extra dose of salt. Thanks for your sub and all the best. Keep it real my friend.
Yea I feel bad too as I felt it was a bit of a low hanging fruit, but every culture has their own version of auntie Chen and uncle Lee so it is definitely relatable across all backgrounds. Thanks for the sub Owais and all the best.
I've also been told here that this watch more closely homages the Hanhart Flieger-Chronograph. Both look close enough but I do believe it looks a bit closer to the Hanhart than the Dan Henry. Though that being said both the Hanhart and Dan Henry are probably homaging something else, more like the first WWI trench warfare field watches.
@@watchluster The Dan Henry 1945 is very much inspired by the 1941 Jardur Bezelmaster. The Sugess does a resemble a Hanhart although the latter have have numerals on the dial. But compare the hands of the Sugess and Dan Henry. Same parts bin, I think.
Привет, Адам, вот. QUESTION Can you give me a link where did you buy it? ANSWER Full disclosure, I am not an affiliate and will not get any compensation for anyone using this link to purchase the watch. Just FYI. Hi Brian yeap pretty much, it's basically you get what you pay for with most of the watches from AliExpress. There certainly are nicer options when you start creeping into the $1000 range from Japanese makers and some microbrands but that's more money than I can afford for a watch usually. Mind you Sugess themselves are a bit more premium even on the AliExpress market so it's the better half of most of the watches you'll find there. You may be better off purchasing a Seiko or Citizen but you won't get the same movement which is primarily why I had purchased the watch. Cheers and all the best.
