You do know a lot of musicians don't know theory, just because you do it doesn't make you amazingly better than everyone else

I think they are the cause of the devolution of metal. A genre with so much creativity and originality is now being taken over by trends. It's a dying breed.

@EndofCadaver It's also important to make sure the snare wires are centred correctly so you get the most response from them. he also makes just about every hit a rim shot, so that affects the sound and makes it louder

Raker generally have smaller bells. Also, they're B8 bronze, where as this looks like B20. Plus, all the other ones here are Sabian.

Hahaha! I've never heard this guy talk before. He looks like he'd have a really rough voice, but it's so soft...

@Tylerthemetalking Yeah, his blasting and double bass is faster than lots of metal drummers, but in terms of creativity, power and endurance he's outshined by Derek Roddy and John Longstreth.

Alex is the best part of Suicide Silence, no doubt.

The timing is two measures in 3/4 and one measure in 2/4

@ipwntillidan Cause it's one of there slower songs, less technical on the drums. Listen to there other stuff like Disengage or Unanswered. Quite impressive. It's not 'FUCKING CRAZY' but the thing is, he is so consistent and perfect with what he plays. Which is KEY in drumming.

True but the groupings are 3,3,2 which might not feel like 4/4 to him and it boils down to perception. For example- I often think a groove is displaced because my inner count is a crotchet off the song's count. Maybe he didn't even mean the time signature when he said timing?

@kook1028 as far as i can tell its 4/4 but goes over 2 bars before it resolves itself. im not up to scratch with my theory. i need to brush up on time sigs.

@xaqshana :P true although us metal heads just play the music well, we dont always "NEED" to know what time sig if it sounds cool ;)

tighten the snare head a bit as well, makes it easier for the stick to pop back up with less effort

when he started jamming i started to do the Lucker Stomp.

@jessechisel126 drums is a very natural instrument, if you don't have beat naturally it is gonna take you years to be able to play even simple beats on drums fluently, unlike piano where music theory is vital, drum music isn't ussually written by metal bands, it's not needed, try witting forgotton by lamb of god in drum music.

Is it me, or is he using Joeys snare?? Looks like there are S's on it but I can't tell cuz everything is blurry. Looks and sounds like it though.

I cant get my wrists to go that fast. But other than that i can get the whole song besides the snare blast with the cymbals.

Sounds like a 3/4 with a quick 2/4 measure every two measures or so
