I was nearly falling asleep watching RU-vid and then I heard this … WOW …. I really love this tune .. can’t wait to join in with my accordion. Best wishes from uk Liverpool.
@@seamonster936 Jij stomme idioot moet jij nou echt alles verkloten, azijnpisser.
I have watched this video so many times and every time I am amazed at its genius ! Absolutely beautiful ! Suikerbossie is my favourite song anyway and no one will ever do it as well ! This song just says South Africa !!!
Hi Cora, we may be related. My family name is van Dijk. After WW2 my dad and mom went to South Africa. I was born there. The name soon became van Dyke. I am now in America and am known as Victor van Dyke. victerry@yahoo.com
As someone who now lives half a world away from my beloved country, this song always brings tears to my eyes. Reminds me of the singalongs we had in the barracks!
Jumping up and down using £20 worth of 20p coins in my pocket to help the rhythm section along.... OMG, This it's the best version of Suikerbossie that I have EVER heard! So classy, so cool, so authentically Afrikaans. Far better than the English versions by Doris Day and Eva Boswell. If you want an Afrikaans song sung right, get it sung by a South African, although kudos to Eva Boswell for including Afrikaans in her version.... I am so HAPPY to hear Ian Roberts sing this!!!
Brilliant song, amazing film making. My parents home was in Suikerbos street. A version of this song was our family anthem.Brings back happy memories of my now late dad. Thank you for posting.
Back in those days a Small percentage of English settlers who lived alongside your Afrikaners merged with them giving many Afrikaners of today that mixed heritage. This is a snippet of how amazing people lived back then. Should put out an album...so beautifully done
Prachtig muzikaal uitgevoerd...
This was my mother and fathers “song”.....I am a non racist, non Afrikaans speaking,south-African born Ulsterman....but this melody reminds me of my happy childhood and the wonderful parents I was so lucky to have.
@@PunkDogCreations well I could be mistaken.....but some people still hold Afrikaner views...just was making it clear that I don’t...just self descriptive if you like...Or if you don’t like.
@@richardcatherwood7930 I just want to inform you that the Afrikaner identity is not focused on race/racism but the pillar of our identity is belief in Jesus. I could summarize it in my high-school slogan: "Vir God en Vaderland". Have a blessed Passover. 😀
They shouted "Balke toe" when dancing in the barn. Cement floors and mealiemeal get thown on the floor to make dancing easier. Balke toe means all have to hang on the beams so as to have their feet of the ground when the meal is strewn.
I once saw a group of Spanish guitarists playing ,"Suikerbossie" on television and it was amazing and have not been able to find it again ! As for Dan Roberts why is there not a statue of him ??? What a Brilliant man ??? A Great South African ?
