A man in Assynt - Norman McCaig Glaciers, grinding West, gouged out these valleys, rasping the brown sandstone, and left, on the hard rock below - the ruffled foreland - this frieze of mountains, filed on the blue air - Stac Polly, Cul Beag, Cul Mor, Suilven, Canisp - a frieze and a litany.

Great video as ever, Simon. We climbed it when the pathworks were in progress - a couple of young lads working hard and doing a great job! They sprinted past us down the landrover track at the end of the day en route to the pub 😂

I'm currently waiting for a serious operation for radiation damage during cancer treatment but this is for sure a mountain I want tick off before Im too "temporary" infirm to do,will split it as you did into a 2 day adventure,just me and my dog,well worth the close to 1000ml round trip. Cracking video,

Just in case you were thinking that the continuation of the track on to Ledmore might be a good ride, the "good" track ends about 800m beyond where the path up to Suilven leaves it. It's one of the crux sections of the HT550. Also the track that heads north from Suileag bothy is probably worse!

I came in from the north down to Suileag on my trip, thinking that parking might be full from the west, there's a river crossing and the trail though not always distinct, and undulating, was enjoyable, and very quiet !

A very, very engaging video. Professionally produced and presented. The only problem is that it is too short. Twenty to thirty minutes would be better.

Suilven became a place almost of pilgrimage to me afterr seeing it first in books and then for real. Finally climbed to the top in September '22 and it was quite emotional.

Stunning area. Have road cycled round there and done a circle round Suilven, but never hiked up it. Next year maybe...

ah, brilliant stuff, i'm looking at camping there before the climb, it doesnt look easy to find a spot for a tent.

Climbing Suilven by Norman MacCaig I nod and nod to my own shadow and thrust A mountain down and down. Between my feet a loch shines in the brown, It's silver paper crinkled and edged with rust. My lungs say No; But down and down this treadmill hill must go.

The two inselbergs in Scotland are Suilven and North Berwick Law. The two in England are The Wrekin and Brent Knoll. And yes, I had to look that up on Wikipedia. 😏

My wife and I always intended mountain biking in the 6 miles but sadly, it never happened. At 84 and no longer able to drive due to failing eyesight it will never happen. 🤨
