What a perfect entrance at the trumpet solo. Not rushed. Not metronomic..not late either. As if it was always there, just waiting to be heard.

We played this for symphonic winds one year. Still is one of my favourites to play❤ it was one of my last concert pieces to play after playing for 15 years.

I played bassoon in this song in my band, and we didn't have a string bass so during the last slow part when the brass is trading the melody, me and the other bassoonist got to trade off holding a low C. I hated it, and the judge at the festival we took it to asked why my band director didn't just have the marimba player hold a low C.
