Here's a few links for my favorite credit cards. I try to check the links often, but let me know if there is a problem. If they change the offer on the card, I may need to update the link. Full disclosure, I get a few airline miles for referring a new customer. You should get the same public offer at no additional cost. Thank you very much.

If you enjoy checking out Bangkok and other SE Asia spots, consider subscribing. I'll continue to make videos showing the streets in Bangkok and beyond. Thailand is amazing and a great place to visit, work or retire. I'll do my best to show you how to live affordably in SE Asia. Plus, enjoy some great side trips from Bangkok. A few links that support my channel at no extra cost to you. A great VPN is Surfshark. I've used it for 3 years and I'm very happy. Use the internet with security and change Netflix locations, etc.. Plus some of my favorite travel credit cards. I often fly in 1st class or business using miles and points. Check out the video link for a video on flying first class with Japan Airlines. Plus, I still have many Baja, California travel videos. A good Mexican Insurance policy is a must. Baja Bound in San Diego is my choice. Thanks to everyone who uses my links. Stayed at the Mercure 24 there Joe. Ibis and Mercure are connected. Two separate lobbies. The Ibis uses floors up to 10 or so. Mercure uses the remaining floors up to 28. Mercure clients can use gym and pool on the 29th, Ibis customers cannot. I really liked the Mercure, I would recommend it. Ibis would be fine too if you're looking to stay in the same building for a little less forgoing the amenities.

Hi, you popped up in my YT feed and just watched this video as I am staying 20 nights (all booked with points) at the Hyatt Place in November. Very helpful video, will watch Part 2 next. I have lifetime Accor Platinum so I may hit the Mercure one night to check it out. Looking forward to the HP breakfast as Globalist elite, heard great things about it, thank you.

Hey thanks for watching. The breakfast buffet is great. For a category one property, this place is amazing. Nice little roof top bar too. Check out my channel for looks around town. I live on the next street Soi 26. Phrom Phong is a great place to stay.

@@EagerExpat Looking forward to staying there. Stayed at the HR last year but it recently went up 1 category so not that screaming of a deal anymore. Been playing the miles game since the early 90s, check out my blog.

@@TravelBloggerBuzz Did it go up to Cat 2? I've had a condo here for years. Ya I did miles since the 90's myself. I probably got Red Card shut down. Ha ha. I think I had 20 at one time. I must have got 5 Alaska Cards in one day. I've never crossed in ocean in less than business or first. Miles are the best. Here's a link to my retirement flight over. I treated myself to Japan First. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-1XdMDOyC7WE.html

@@EagerExpat Oh yeah, I remember the day that 5 Alaska cards per day deal got shot down after it was written on a blog whose author discovered it at a miles meetup whose attendees were repeatedly told not to publish it. Those were the days. Nowadays devaluations rule :-(
@EagerExpat
@EagerExpat Месяц назад
@@TravelBloggerBuzz I heard that. I used to go to all those miles conventions. I don't remember the name. They were always at DFW. Was it FTU? That was 20 years ago. Churn every 90 days, etc... I wish I could do a little MS in Thailand. No can do. It's harder to meet a minimum spend when everything is so cheap here. But, I'm usually working on a card or two. Just got another Barclays AA and United card. I wish I still had my four IHG $49 cards. I only kept one. Those are the best points in SE Asia. You can earn fast at $35 Holiday Inn Express. Usually 2000 points for every two night bonus. Plus, welcome miles, etc.. They add up fast. Holiday Inn Express is everywhere in SE Asia. Then burn at Intercontinental Hong Kong or Tokyo. The free night at $49 is a steal when the room is $250. Four of the old cards would be nice to have. Oh well, live and learn. My condo in Bangkok on the 25 the floor is $500. So I'm still ahead of the game. Instead of a travel hack, my whole life is a hack today.

It's a great points deal. They stopped the free breakfast for card members, I think. But even paying $10 or $15, 5k or often 3k is a great redemption. It's a category 1, which is amazing for a major city.

Ibis 3 star /economy brand with compact rooms, Mercure 4 star brand with bigger rooms, both owned by Accor hotels, one of the largest hospitality company
@EagerExpat
@EagerExpat 2 месяца назад
The problem with that property is that it is 100 meters to the train. I believe many tour groups also use that hotel. I'd guess you'll pay 25% more than a hotel 500m away. It's just tourist central

Was just looking at Ibis and the Mercure for September...Mercure is about 30-40% more expensive. Seems like basically same location. Both are owned by Accor (French) so maybe they have a High end option and affordable option together and share some resources.

Random question, will a mask make the air pollution a lot more tolerable? Worried how bad the pollution will be if I go
@EagerExpat
@EagerExpat 2 месяца назад
The air is hit or miss. It's fine for a month, then bad for a week. Some months, it's fine. Like now when it rains often. Other months are bad for two weeks straight. If you have breathing issues, asthma, etc.. all of Thailand gets smokey at times. SE Asia, for that matter. It's not a Bangkok thing. Chaing Mai can be really bad for months around January. They burn the sugar cane fields. Many locals wear a mask. There are bus fumes, etc.. On a bad week, I'll reach for refresh eye drops. But, overall, it doesn't bother me. I was at the pub the other night. A guy was complaining about how bad the air was. As he was smoking. So there's that. So I'd guess a mask could help. You'll still have irritated eyes in my case. I don't wear a mask, but I prefer clean air

What do you get or why Thailand compared to Cambodia? I'm going by visa issues only, being it is less of a hassle in the neighboring Cambodia Infrastructure? Makes up for the visa & bank account rules?
@EagerExpat
@EagerExpat 2 месяца назад
Cambodia is a fine place to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there. Bangkok is an incredible city. To me it's the energy of New York City at 30% of the cost. You can't get than anywhere in SE Asia. Having $23,000 in the bank, I can take back at anytime, is a small price for me.
@craigellis8354
@craigellis8354 2 месяца назад
@EagerExpat Thank you, partner I will land shortly & my plan is to live in both plus vietnam and figure out what suits me. Maybe the visa issue isn't that big of an issue some make it out to be Love the content Thank you for information Stay safe
@EagerExpat
@EagerExpat 2 месяца назад
@@craigellis8354 That sounds like a plan. Yes, many people don't have the $23,000 for the bank. Others argue you have to check in every 90 days. That takes about 3 minutes online. So come see what works for you. Everything changes in every country. Starting tomorrow you'll have 60 days on arrival and for a small fee get 30 days more. So spend 3 months in Thailand. Then go to Cambodia for a month or two, then Vietnam. Then you can come back to Thailand for 90 days. Nobody knows how many times you can return to Thailand on that plan. I'd guess two 90 day periods a year (by plane, they are clamping down on land crossing) should be ok. That gives you half a year in Thailand, and then live in Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Malaysia, Philippines, etc.. If Thailand is right for you, then you need to arrange the proper visa for a permanent stay. I still visit other countries, but it's always nice to return to Thailand. You'll find a good spot. Best of luck
