It's been more than 10 years since I lived in L.A., but I think I was able to clear everything but that very last section where you dropped down onto the pavement by the road to Camp Josepho. I used some really clever and exotic technology to do it: an Amp Research B4 with a TRIPLE crankset and a 20T small ring, and 26" wheels. I was in my late 50s at the time. It really helps if there's been some rain recently and there's moisture in the soil. The singletrack on Westridge (aka Mandeville Ridge) is also a killer climb. I do miss the riding in Socal.
For sure! It's very convenient to access this trail as it is close to the city. In June we often get a low cloud cover coming from the ocean and this trail is above the clouds; it's gorgeous.
Nice. Love that area. Hey Ben. I have noticed more and more people talking about power. I am not sure I fully understand it and the benefits yet, but do you measure your power output on your rides and if so how, and how does it help or change your riding?
basically it measure how much force your putting into the pedals. its a great tool for training and pacing. the vegan cyclist and gcn made some pretty good vids explaining their benefits. you should check them out.
The power meter is mostly useful for training & post-race analysis (and showing off your telemetry on RU-vid!). I personally don't pace myself with it in XC races because they aren't long enough. That's why I only had a power meter on my cyclocross bike I use for training. But contrary to what most coaches would say, I think a heart rate monitor is good enough for training at the Sport and Expert level. The bulk of the progress you make at that level comes from consistency, training longer hours, going harder when you're supposed to go hard and going slow when you're supposed to recover.
Bro. There aren't as good trails here in La like there are in Canada, colorado, & Utah..... Any good, fun, or scenic trails in Los Angeles please let me know!
When you live in LA and want to get into mountain biking but the bikes are out of stock and your stuck at home with this heat and plus virtual learning. Hah ain't that great :/ 😂😒😔. This year sucks...
