The golden years of the Ottoman Empire come to life in a television series. The life of Suleiman the Magnificent is preparing to be a guest in your homes in all its glory. Get ready to experience the era with ambition, loves, wars and all the struggle.
Prince Solomon, with his closest man, Ibrahim Pargam Ibrahim receives the bad news in a hunt. His father Yavuz Sultan Selim Khan passed away. Prince Suleyman sets out for Istanbul without waiting. Prince Süleyman quickly reaches the capital. He attends the culus ceremony without waiting. His life changed in one day. He started his life as Sultan Süleyman.
Meanwhile, a galley loaded with slaves coming over the Black Sea is heading towards Istanbul. The hottest of the slaves is not yet aware that he is on a journey that will change his destiny. He is rebelling helplessly to return.
Sultan Süleyman wants to show what kind of sultan he is by the commands he gave on the first day of his sultanate. But not everyone will like these decisions. Sultan Süleyman does not hesitate to challenge all of Europe with the messages he sends.
Alex, despite all his rebellion, is brought to the Topkapi palace. His attitude attracted the attention of Valide Sultan from the first moment. But it won't be long before Alex learns the rules of the palace. He chooses a great target. Alex, Sultan Suleyman's first night on the way to attract his attention. Sultan Suleiman's wife Mahidevran just arrived from the palace of Manisa. He is looking forward to seeing his wife.
Ama Alex’in sarayın kurallarını öğrenmesi uzun sürmez. Kendisine büyük bir hedef seçer. Alex, Sultan Süleyman’ın karşısına çıktığı ilk gecede onun ilgisini çekmeyi başarır. Sultan Süleyman’ın eşi Mahidevran ise Manisa sarayından yeni gelmiş. Eşi ile görüşmeyi sabırsızlıkla beklemektedir.

What I find so interesting is the spin M puts on being free. She basically demands it, and gives no other reason for wanting it than because Hurrem was. Whereas Hurrem was smart, made it about charity, didn't ask or demand he did it but expressed her sorrow she can't help people because she's a slave and Sulieman freed her so she could. She didn't ask, demand, threaten, M used the wrong tactic.

M was always like that. She used tears, anger and pity to try and get her way. Never worked out, she always ended up looking stupid or as the bad guy. But Hurrem was smart, calm and made sure everything she did had a reason.

Historically speaking, Mahidevran wasn't that popular a concubine of Suleiman. She was only important because she gave birth to his oldest son, and that's it. She was never his favorite. Once Hurrem came into the picture, the real Suleiman didn't care for anyone else; this is why their relationship defied all the traditions of the Osman empire. He married her, she was allowed to have more than one son, she wasn't a slave, etc.. You Hurrem haters are hilarious, especially if you knew the actual history of Suleiman's reign, and how important Hurrem was to him.

Would you accept being set aside and disregarded? I do not understand the concept of harem - aside of popping out royal babies women were mostly treated as reproductors . It is in human nature to cling to sb you share a bed with but this situation showed what unequality in harem was being in place. Mahidevran only wanted to be treated equal. Mahidevran hatun from the moment she stepped into the palace expected everything to be given to her and was very naive to think that the Padisha would only want her. Hürrem Sultana was stubborn but was provoked and backed into a corner. She was just a slave and had no way to defend herself. Mahidevran hatun was ungrateful and reached to far too quickly. I understand her pain of wanting the Sultan for herself but then seeing him with another woman, but that’s how the world worked back then and she had no right lay hands on a concubine in anger.

Yes, maybe you're right, but the one and only more powerful, who became arrogant and made so much evil to people around him, is no one else except Syleiman, because he was the Sultan. The more power Syleiman and someone has, the less conscience and justice he has. That's the nature of the world. That's the way, when someone have so much power in his hands. Neither Mahidevran or Ibrahim or Mustafa, no one of them isn't that much powerful just like Syleiman. Even his own mother isn't so much powerful than himself. And that's the only explanation for killing all his own family and friends: he was blinded by a slave (here I have to say that Hurrem wasn't a free woman. After all, she had already been married with Syleiman. And so, both gained power, she became a Sultana and became a woman, who was slave for all her life. But she thought that she would make Syleiman whatever she wanted) and by the power of the throne. That's what I think.

Personally, in the series, I think Mahidevran should have been exiled after she stole the ring. A lot of bad events would have been averted. All enemities and deaths emernated from her, because she believed as the mother of Suleiman's remaining son after the rest died in the epidemic, she must be the next valide as soon as possible. She then spent 37 manipulating people to support her point of view.
@cisio64123
@cisio64123 Год назад
The difference in Hurrem and Mahidevran is made pointedly clear here. When Hurrem wanted her freedom so she could marry Suleiman she skillfully set it into motion in a way that made it as Suleiman deciding it was right that it should be so. She wisely never outright asked or demanded it . She simply gave him a emotional push in that direction by lamenting how her slave status prevented her from helping his people through charity work and then stepped back to let him make the decision . Mahidevran on the other hand went in all half cocked with no real reason to be set free except that Hurrem was . Yes, she is the mother of his oldest son and presumed heir to the throne but so were other impending Valide Sultana's and they were not freed so there truly was no real justification for her sense of entitlement here . Hurrem's tactic worked because she knew her place and wisely worked within it so she didn't alienate Suleiman . Mahidevran was mistakenly already giving herself the airs of the Valide sultana and ironically for someone wanting their freedom forgetting the slave she actually is right then . She majorly overstepped her bounds and was highly disrespectful which of course would alienate him and naturally force him to snap her back into place.

@@blueskyonsummer to be fair, Suleyman is no blind to people's character... since the first episode, Mahidevran showed this entitlement to Suleyman. Maybe because she thought that she had secured the sultan to be hers so she's ready to order him around like what she did inthe video. Like how she always said that Hurrem's green-stoned ring should belong to her. Hurrem on the other hand, is tactful with showing interest in power when she's with Suleyman although she is very candid. Hurrem actually is not that concious to display pride or arrogance. She didn't threw a fit when she was asked to exile twice (first was false accusation of murder, second was before marriage). She tried to destroy Hurrem instead of improving herself!!! I think it all started in the beginning when she stole Hurrem's ring, she beat her up, she poisoned Hurrem (the worst part was she send the poison to Suliyman's room) and he told her and Ibrahim that did it for him and he lost respect for her!

@@blueskyonsummer I fully agree that her pride was injured as a woman and it must have been terrifying to watch herself lose favor knowing that it could mean her son was losing out on that attention to. But, honestly, Mahidevran didn't quietly obey, which was the problem. She beat Hurrem near to death then sent poison to the sultan's own table. As Suleiman himself says, she destroyed any sense of trust or respect that had existed between the two of them, so there was too much for him to simply forgive and forget. I think right about here in the timeline (if this is actually true. I have NOT done the research), Mahidevran planted the first seeds of doubt about Mustafa. Just listen to their language (rough English translation): M: Just free me and I’ll take my prince and go. S: Is that a threat? In those days it was common for princes to rebel against their fathers and if the Sultan died they had to literally fight their way to the throne and kill their brothers and probably either married off or killed their half-sisters who weren’t on their side. Suleiman rightfully took this as a direct threat as Mustafa was later executed because Suleiman felt threatened. Every step of the way, Mahidevran made wrong decisions.

I am not Muslim, but I want to clear everything up. Both Hurrem and Mahidevran came to Suleiman as slaves. At their time, slavery was evident everywhere. They were bought from slave market as Cariye (slave women) in Suleiman's palace. Suleiman, as their rightful master, had right to slept with both of them without marrying them. But once Suleiman slept with them, there were some limitations : 1. The Cariye that had slept with their master had to received different treatment from the Cariye that never slept with their master. They received better treatment, well fed, and better clothing, and sometimes salary. 2. Once they were pregnant, they were unable to be sold in slave market, and they lived together with their master. 3. The children that were born from the Cariye had equal right, status, and duty from the children that were born from the legal and wedded wife. They even inherited their father's wealth and property. 4. It is prohibited for the master to sleep with the Cariye's mother, grandmothers, aunts, sisters, daughters, and nieces although all of them were also enslaved and owned by the same master. The male relatives of the master were also prohibited to sleep with the Cariye. 5. Once the master died, all the Cariye that had children with the master become free women. In these series and real history, the Sultan, as the rightful owner of Cariye, had also limitations too. He can only have one son for each Cariye, meanwhile if the firstborn of the Cariye were female, the Cariye can be called again to sleep with the Sultan until she bore him a son. But after one son was born, the Cariye normally won't be called again to sleep with the Sultan. Sultan Suleiman followed this rule when he slept with Mahidevran and Mahidevran bore him Prince Mustafa. But alas, there came Hurrem, who kept pregnant again and again with the Sultan and brought him 5 princes and a princess, and this violated the tradition. The violation of tradition continued when Suleiman freed her from slavery and even married her so she became fully legal and wedded wife. Thus her position were far above Mahidevran and all concubines and Cariye, although not above and as powerful as the Valide Sultan, the mother of the Sultan.

He is not so cruel as to chain her in the harem where she basically lives like a nobody since he doesn’t consider her a partner anymore… plus sending her away would let the harem live in peace since there would be no problem between hurrem and her… Her mistake was challenging his authority upon her, because ultimately he is the owner of her life, he has no need to explain to her or even accommodate to her moods… If she used a more gentle way, if she begged and used proper reasons to back up her request, I think we would have granted her request or at least consider it…

Sultan Suleiman always talk to mahidevran like that but when hurrem changelles him or disrespect him that time his love increases more than before to hurrem mahidevran is doing coz of love too he doesn't understand i feel sorry for mahidevran
@joanlucas6109
@joanlucas6109 3 года назад
use common sense, it's called love , mahidevran was a cocunbine slave bore a son and that's it ,she never a sultana, hurrem is his legal wife,the only first haseki sultan and he is in love and really really love hurrem in real life, mahidevran was his past time but get pregnant and bore a son. it means he never love mahidevran

Yes exactly,that is why when people say how much smarter Hurrem was in covering her dark deeds,I roll my eyes.The only reason she was successful is because sultan loved her and forgave her everything,while punishing Mahi for less.

Hurrem nggak pernah nangis di depan anaknya jadi anaknya nggak pernah ada yg berani ngebantah Sulaiman. Mustafa sering ngelawan karna sering lihat Mahi nangis. Jadinya Sulaiman lebih suka sama Mehmed.

Ok, speaking as a woman, as a human being, irrespective of Suleiman's historical importance & all the facts that followed his reign: what an ass! He kept separating mother from child, he did it to both his wives & showing no remorse. I mean, the princes had to be near the Sultan, fair enough, but he could have always done it when the children were older & his problems were done wirh. Plus the fact that he was so full of himself! He wouldn't have survived a week with a 20th/21st century woman! No matter how attractive or a good lover he may have been. Women are cleverer than that! 😉

Neither would a 16th century woman survive one week in the 21st century. Nor would a 21st century man or woman survive a week in the 16th century.

If mahidevran is also a slave then how can she do charity?? She did charity in previous episodes . That's the basic reason for all these things . Hurrem is a slave , so she want to be a free woman to do charity.
