And love Jackie Evancho version of Ave Maria Caccini and just found Montserrat Spanish lady who has passed RIP sweet lady who is pure gold and sings with her daughter in duet and sounds like twins. I was transported into Heaven with the very first note that came out of Sumi Jo's mouth. Paced well. Mozart would be proud indeed! Brava, diva Sumi Jo!
A truly great chanteuse. Lovely to hear and a joy to watch. Her passage through life has meant so much to those who cannot express themselves in song. We live our dreams through her sterling performances.
The movement of her lips and mouth (aperture) has to do with vocal control technique. Most of the notes in this piece are 16th notes at a tempo of 122-124 bpm and at times there are 52 tied 16th-notes that are sung in one breath...only possible with superb vocal control and mouth/lip movement...believe it or not even teeth play a part! NOW YOU KNOW!

Thanks - I hadn't spotted it - beautiful. There are many international-quality sopranos - but Sumi has the extra gift of looking stupendous even whilst singing - quite a knack.
@girlwithcurls90 , I thought the same, but then I saw in korean, it says the location is an "international culture center" at some university.. so I think the stage is not magnificent.. hope it helps.. ^^
i'm 100% agree that u said singers have to relax on her face, but for sure is not doing that. may be becoz she is a korean's langauge, i think if a professional singers will know better about this
Well, asian women deserve much more merit for a voice such hers! Since they are physically smaller and in consequence, higher notes but emotionless very very beautiful
I don't think it is useless. The movements of the lips and the mouth, however they look, are part of how the sounds come out, and can thus have an effect on the quality and expressivity of her interpretation. That's why singers have to relax their face muscles before they start singing. :)
cecilia bartoli does it this one better but she has a full orchestra behind her hence its more lively and heartfelt i don't think this piece is a good one for a solo recital such as this one.
The piano has few different notes. She is singing such a superficial way that she didn't express the true meaning of the musoc amd the text. Cheep singing.
Bof...It is one of her better performances, but nothing exceptional. She loses completely the pronunciation at the end. Damrau, Fleming, Te Kanawa, Battle are all much better.
