Lol my mouth literally dropped open when you said you haven't read Miss Read yet. I hope you'll love her (I think you will), especially since you like books dealing with schools/teaching. Also, I just read my 1st Laurie Colwin: Happy All The Time, thanks to your recommendation. I liked it! I'd never heard of her until you mentioned her 😊

For a book mentioned in another one, read Elizabeth and her German Garden, mentioned in The Guernsey Literary and Potatoe Peel Pie Society by Annie Barrows and Mary Ann Shaffer. Both excellent books!! I reread Elizabeth and her German Garden every summer

It's a pleasure! I look forward to hearing your thoughts on "in the Year of the Boar...". Does your copy have the Mandarin characters for the month at the start of each chapter? I noticed that some of the paperbacks don't. Jen! I just read the short story 'Roman Fever' for my trip to Italy! I chatted about it in my last video - I really, really loved it! I need to get to her other short stories as I am also now hooked on Edith Wharton!💞 We have read 'Five Children and It' and have been looking forward to 'The Phoenix and the Carpet' - a reminder to get to it! I love seeing all your book choices! 📚

Currently reading Roman Fever so will be interested to compare notes. I just finished High Wages by Dorothy Whipple which is brilliant! Plus, the heroine Jane goes to the Free Library, so some book titles are mentioned, including Alice in Wonderland, David Copperfield, Oliver Twist and others. It's one of her early books and it reads very fast--316 pages which I read in 2 days (Persephone edition).

I read Night War on Netgalley and liked it so much I bought a physical copy for myself. Her book, The War That Saved My Life, is another favorite of mine. Mrs. Pollifax on Safari is my favorite Mrs. Pollifax book (although I love all of them.) I think you will really enjoy Gerald Durrell - he is a very engaging writer. For a middle grade sci-fi, I recommend Orion Lost, which I learned about on an earlier Middle Grade March. I don't usually read horror but The Sundown Motel was a book club pick and I ended up really liking it. Have you read Dear Enemy? It is the sequel to Daddy Long Legs. I am sorry this comment got so long - you have so many good books on your list!

Hi Jen, I am getting through the Agatha Christie and reading through the Tommy and Tuppance books, and then the Miss Marple books. Then I thought of some rereads I want to do. I want to reread Mary Stewart’s The Moonspinners and Airs Above the ground, which is about the Lipazanner (sp?) stallions which I got to see when I was a young woman. And I thought of one I read ages ago and loved which was Pennmaric by Susan Howatch I believe. I’m going to do a search on that one and hope I will still love it.😊

Since you follow Miranda Mills her Comfort Book Club pick for May ‘Life In The Garden’ if you read along mentions lots of books. One I’ve put on my TBR is’Tom’s Midnight Garden’. This book is celebrating 65 years and has an anniversary edition out. Enjoyed your video and I might join the bingo challenge if you can only do a completed row as I’d never get the whole card filled. 😅

Do you have The Mayfair Bookshop by Eliza Knight? Could fit your last bingo square, there are quite a few Nancy Mitford books mentioned in this one - enjoyable read!! I really enjoyed The Durrells in Corfu on PBS - beautiful scenery! I too have yet to read a Miss Read book - but am slowly collecting the Fair Acre and Thrush Green series - I'm weird like that, I want at least the 1st couple before starting a series! Good luck with pile of possibilities! 😊 and hope you have a great summer. Don't have children in school anymore but here where I live in Maine - they are out June 10th. Hope the weather cools a bit for you. happy reading!! Jacqueline

A sci-fi book that Miranda Mills recommended which I haven't gotten around to yet is The Hopkins Manuscript by R. C. Sherriff. It's by the same author who wrote The Fortnight in September. I love Miss Read! I'm reading Emily Davis. A Pin to See The Peepshow was mentioned very positively on Miranda Mills' channel. If you Google "Books mentioned in other books," I'm sure that you'll find plenty of options.

Ok, it’s very serendipitous that you mentioned The Hopkins Manuscript because I just ordered it from Book Outlet after hearing Miranda talk about it. I’m so intrigued by it. I LOVED THE GOWN! For a book within a book, would The Lady Of Shallot count, mentioned in Anne of G.G.? I know you already read or mentioned it. I also ADORE R. Pilcher! I am trying to collect every book she wrote. Gina Stanyer got me going on her and back into Miss Read after yrs. and yrs. of not continuing. My summer reading is going to be very different this yr. starting June 14. That day I am having a REPEAT Total Shlr. Replacement. Had it done 4 yrs. ago, but not correctly.😑😑. So...I will be on drugs for at least 6 wks. SO, I am gathering short, light and Middlegrade reads for at least 2 mos. So far I have Rose Cottage by Mary Stewart, Johnny Tremaine and Summer At Little Beach Street Bakery by Jenny Colgan. I know I will be reading stories from The Blue Bedroom (Pilcher), some poetry and I know for sure my bible...HA! It will also be busy w/ A nurse, P.T. coming in until I go out for therapy. Will be a problem finding someone to take me. I have lots to choose from w/ o going to library😊 So I'll just " play it by ear". Not looking forward to it. This was great as usual. Wrote down lots of suggestions😶. I have SOOOOO many lists, not bks. but lists of bks. I want to read before I die. I KNOW it isn't possible 😑 Today, I found a Barbara Pym bk!! I swapped for 3 bks. Collecting her also! Thanks Jen 🤗
