Such a primal and important event. So stupidly regulated by some means of modern day implied authority...... For what implied gain or outcome ? We pale by comparison to those who erected those very stones so long ago ! No matter how far we believe we have come. Stoked you could bring it to us Wil. :)
Thank you for sharing this, everyone around me thinks my noticing the solstices is weird, but I felt companionship in watching the sun rise on your video. Your wholeheartedness is wonderful. Happy Summer Solstice from Canada!
I love that you had to drink your alcohol to get in… hilarious 😂🤣😂 What an incredible festival! We didn’t realise you could actually go in among the stones how incredible!!!! Happy Summer Solstice!! 🥰🥰
Watching this made the hairs on my arms stand up! I was there in 84 (didn't get searched back then) and it was a magical and unforgettable experience. Never had the time or money to go back again, though I've been meaning to. Thank you so much for taking me back. Sir, you are a scholar and a gentleman! All hail the king of flint!
Only last evening I commented about Stonehenge on one of your videos and today, here you are! I wish I were there, but alas, I'm in Canada. Enjoy the day treading in the footsteps of our ancestors. Happy Solstice.
Solstice had come three nights ago here in the basin. I took the dog out and the sky was significantly different than the night before. I knew what it was saying. Definitely a longer spring than recent years for sure.
Thank you for that, Will. Not been for a few years now due to circumstances beyond my control, and I miss it. I went to the free festivals there from 1977 when I was a soldier stationed at Netheravon Airfield a few miles away through to 1984 well after I'd left the army. Been back many times since but those free festis were a magical time.
Yep! 84 was magical. Stonehenge was my first experience of a band that wasn't in a pub. Spoiled for life! Such a shame about 85! Wasn't there but it put me off going again, that and life getting in the way. Bring back the good times!
@@alistairwilson5344 Roy Harper and The Enid Made for brilliant support in 84 though I did go just to see the Hawks. Didn't know what I was gettin into. Completely blown away when I saw the camp site from a distance.....You can imagine what I thought when I saw the merchandise on sale! 17 and ignorant? Yep! Happy? ....As a pig in shit!!!!!! Long Live Hawkwind!
I used to live in Larkhill in the 70’s as a kid, I used to run across the fields and play on the stones. There was seldom anyone else there, so I had the place to myself most of the time.
5 Stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐@Will, if you read this, Ive always wondered if those stones were originally shaped nice and rectangular & square?...Have the ions eroded them into such rough shapes?...Were they always rough shaped?
It's called Indigenous Day officially here in Canada. Being a Metis (1/2 Native, 1/2 White) includes me in the Indigenous category. The longest day of the year was immortalized by your ancestors somewhat by the standing stone that faces true east. The other stones should not be ignored as they identify special timelines that re-occur yearly, once every decade, or centennially, if we know where to look and at what time. A prehistoric calendar of events that ought not to be taken lightly, people would do well to reconsider during their lifetime, not just on the solstice.
@@WillLordPrehistoricSurvival i think it's been used and moved by humans since the ice age ( could explain how they move those huge blocks (on the ice)at the first). For a shelter, like your earth lodge. That's my theory. Why they would need to predict exactly movement of astres? Useless bullsh** like today . Spend billions of dollars for nothing. Or maybe they were ass stupid like us. Sorry, english is not my mother tongue.
When I visited stone henge the curators told me that touching the stones like this is bad for them. The oils from peoples hands rubbing on it all year round is slowly erroding them. The partying and the drugs, in my opinion, is inappropriate to these ancient works.
They were put there to be touched it’s a brain washed curator you were talking to, I’m all about the preservation of ancient places but people who built these places would be very proud that it has a place in our hearts 3500 years later in time, and the world needs a reason to admire our ancient ancestors drugs has nothing whatsoever to do with the draw you mentioned, please give that some thought and respect us as part of the ancient story not just a numb minded curators negativity on our birthright
@@WillLordPrehistoricSurvival I respect your desire to interact with your birthright, its mine as well and don't wish to deter that in any of the folk. But something in me tells me this door to the past should be protected, and maybe I'm being over protective, and the party that is held near it reminds me of a frat house more than reverence. One mans opinion brother, and while i may disagree with the method. i respect your love for the stones.
...then it will be a structure that has more than one meaning, to more than one group, at more than one place in time - and to be honest I think it's already been through several different iterations long before the present day. One only has to look at the different stages of building at the site to deduce this. Human activity in the area goes as far back as the Mesolithic, and Stonehenge seems to have fallen out of favour by the Iron age, so that's a roughly 8000 year window in which the landscape of Salisbury plain was important. Call me a sceptic but I reckon it's unlikely to have had *exactly* the same function and meaning for all that time🤷♂ Feel free to correct me if I've gotten any of the details wrong, I'm not an archaeologist
I was actually surprised to see so many people right up against the stones? When I went on a Norma day you weren't allowed near them ?? Great video Will 👍
