It's hot and humid this time of year for primitive truck shell camping. I'm camping at Betsey's Ole Country Store Campground in Wilson Creek Wilderness using electric hook up to power my AC unit on the truck shell. This is a great area to explore if you enjoy things like fishing, hiking, backpacking, swimming, camping or bike riding.

The AC sounds noisy. Have you thought about getting a dryer hose connecting to it from a distance? It's a great idea. Especially for those of us in the south.
@geenote
@geenote 3 года назад
That's interesting. It's a little noisy outside and radiates heat but inside it is soothing for me to listen to while sleeping. Thanks for the suggestion!

That was a nice spot to wake up to! Liked the look of the store - seemed to be a little diner, too? All you need right there. How was it for bugs, aside from the bees? Camper set up was in luxury mode with the electricity! 👍🏻
@geenote
@geenote 3 года назад
Yes it was in luxury mode for sure. The bugs were not a big problem but I did have some mosquito bites from that trip - better than bee stings!. I tried to video outside and inside the store and even the owner (Bruce) but had the camera off....Duh! The store is very small with just enough standing room for a few people. Thanks!

I've been fortunate in camping in the back of my truck to not need air conditioning, at least so far. USB fans have worked well enough for me. I am interested in heating the back. Have you tried any of the small ceramic heaters? I'm thinking the smallest possible one should be more than enough, but have never had one before so don't really know. Good video by the way. Kent
@geenote
@geenote 3 года назад
Thank you! Small ceramic heater works good if you have electric. Diesel heater works great in very cold weather. Check out these 2 videos: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-o0ZIv7DhUUA.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-kGzs5-S28Ak.html

Hey, Keith! Great video. I have 3 diff vehicles I can use for camping but using an a/c unit is awkward at best with 2 of them. I finally got all the mods done on my diesel heater per your video except wrapping the exhaust pipe. One thing I was wondering was if you might have a suggestion with regard to insulating the heater unit itself and the vent pipe that blows the hot air into the vehicle. My vent pipe for blowing the hot air in is about 5 and 1/2 ft long because it will be sitting on the ground and I will be in a van or an SUV and have a piece of plywood with a hole cut in it for the vent to come into. As far as the pipe, goes I was concerned about heat loss in cold weather. I know that people that have tried to use portable AC units inside of a van have an issue with heat being expelled from the exhaust pipe that goes out and have to wrap it because it kind of negates the cooling factor. I would think it would be the same with the diesel heater being outside and five and a half feet of it being exposed to extremely cold air. I want to give this thing every chance to work well for me. The unit itself will also be sitting on the ground. I actually have a little Rolling cart that it can sit on and be elevated a little bit right off the ground but I'm thinking that the whole thing being exposed to the elements maybe an issue. Obviously if it were raining I would try to get it moved up under my awning otherwise I was wondering if there might not be a way to shelter the unit and I don't know that much about them so I was wondering if you might have any idea. I have an old microwave that I was thinking of taking the metal off of on the outside and making kind of a metal case not anything tight fitting but that could go over that unit and at least give it some other protection and I might be able to use some spray adhesive to glue some reflectix or something like that on the inside of that metal to provide some insulation as well just to kind of keep the frost or any other dew/ condensation off of it. Any advice would be appreciated!
@geenote
@geenote 3 года назад
Thanks Jeana! Got to keep the heater unit protected from the elements some how for sure. Something that folds up for easy transport would be nice. I keep mine covered with an awning. You need something to insulate the hose that is re-useable, weather proof, easy to use and easy to transport/store away. This is a customer of ours in NC that makes foam pipe insulation: www.amazon.com/3-1-Elastomeric-Pipe-Insulation-Wall/dp/B01M04UT2M/ref=sr_1_6?crid=22JR2J9JD2QFY&dchild=1&keywords=3+pipe+insulation+foam+tube&qid=1632695938&sprefix=3%22+pipe+insulation%2Caps%2C163&sr=8-6
@jeanariley7759
@jeanariley7759 3 года назад
@@geenote wow thanks about that insulation! Guessing our vent pipes are 3 " diameter on these units? That looks like it would work great and also protect that pipe from getting crushed. Not having tried the heater yet, I don't know if the casing of the unit gets hot or warm or if I need to have some kind of a cutout for ventilation so that it can breathe if I were to use maybe a plastic tote to put over the unit to protect it obviously with cutouts for the hose itself for the vent hose and in order to see the controller. That was another thought that I had. Obviously using the bigger part of the tote turned upside down over the unit. Getting it up under my awning may be difficult because of the length of the pipe and the size of my awning and where I need to locate the unit so I needed to have an alternative. Something else I thought about, the controller and remote that I have are the version that is not the newest like yours is. I've seen on Amazon and they probably have them on eBay as well where you can buy the controller and it's got the pigtail and then it comes with a remote or you can buy the remote that goes with the controller separately I was thinking about upgrading because I want to be sure that this is easy as possible for me to operate since the instructions are not always necessarily that clear and I need to understand things as best I can plus make it as convenient as possible as well. Would you happen to know if those connectors when you unplug that control unit are similar or am I going to have to do some wire splicing?
@geenote
@geenote 3 года назад
Yes the 3" hose which will fit nicely in 3.5" insulation rated at 220 degrees F. The all-in-one heater metal housing does not get hot and a plastic tote might work with the ends cut out. The exhaust pipe gets extremely hot and needs plenty of clearance. I'm pretty sure the different controllers all have the same plug so it makes it easy to switch. You should be able to purchase a controller with the remote included. The black version or blue version should work great. Here is the blue one on Amazon: www.amazon.com/Diesel-Heater-Parking-Controller-Monitor/dp/B097DKCK8H/ref=sr_1_20?crid=3LH26EC7MMC66&dchild=1&keywords=diesel+heater+controller&qid=1632705960&sprefix=diesel+heater+contr%2Caps%2C179&sr=8-20

@@geenote As usual, thanks!!! I had seen them on Amazon. In one instance, there's an ad just for the remote that's like yours and it makes it sound like all you have to do is buy that remote and that it would work with the controller that's on there as opposed to having to buy another controller but I am leery of that I would think that you would need the matching controller in the first place. I'm guessing they all have the same connector as well. I'll reopen my unit and look at the plug and see if it's that kind of triangle with rounded Corners triple plug looking thing

Mr. Gee do you know if there is an old town or old neighborhood church that was ever near the graveyard?

Yes, devastated by flood. Lots of history in this area. Check out this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-nxOGwCFhRRQ.html
