I know fiddeyards are non scenic and only there to support the scenic sections but I really do like the one you have built for Chadwick. Great to see a few full length trains in there. Inspiring 🙂

Well, I am a chump Charlie, living overseas (80 kilometres South of Barcelona) I finally had the opportunity to come to the UK, the first time since February 2020. My son has recently moved from London to Devon and to get to him, I had to go to Totnes, twice!. So beforehand, I thought I must have a good look at the signal box especially as I am modelling an invented GWR of the fifties (nationalization has not as yet taken place).Guess what? It completely slipped my mind!! The joys of being old. Oh well, at least I saw my grandson. Thanks Charlie, your videos are an inspiration.

Regarding the wiring issue, I did something similar. I saw my mistake and thought “I will remember that!” I didn’t! And yes, it was the last section that I checked before I found the issue. Lesson learned. We all do it Charlie, don’t feel bad.

Hi Charlie. Hope you’re keeping well 😀 That Bakewell tart looks very yummy 😋 As I was born in 57 so my recollection of main line steam is limited 😫 Even though I do like steam and travel on the railway touring company’s days out when possible with my wife now lol 😆 I’m a midland man but always had a passion for western diesels in the 70s when train spotting 😃 So your absolutely fantastic Chadwick model railway is right up my street and brings many happy memories of the GWR in BR days. Like all nighters on Bristol station with holiday specials coming from all over the country putting extra coaches on or pulling off the buffet car 👍🏻 Thanks as always for a fantastic update. Stevie.

Great suggestion for putting loops at unfinished end just to test already created rails.. About cameras - I see in AliExpress very small WiFi camera, where camera is on flat cable but WiFi module is at other end of cable.. Powered from 5V source. Charlie, I wish to draw your attention to the Bakewell Tart that you received . That item looks to me to be a Bakewell PUDDING! Even though it came from the Bakewell Tart shop. Bakewell tarts can be made anywhere in the country whereas Bakewell Puddings can only be made in Bakewell. The Bakewell Pudding is completely different to a Bakewell Tart. Just looking at it you will see there is no Fondant topping to it.The best way to eat a Bakewell Pudding is warmed for a few minutes in the oven. Y think this is why Keith Wynn said Learn and enjoy

As usual, a great mix of content, and interesting to see how you coped with the red to the front issue. Another enjoyable video and nice to see an update on your plans for the layout, thank you. A complex arrangement of pointwork for the fiddle yard. I use the connector blocks after you suggested them and it does make my wiring simpler to put together. I just wish I had the space to build the boards on a table with plenty of room instead of on my back on the floor in the loft.

Also, be careful with beep testers. A lot of people use a 9-volt battery. In a DCC system, it probably won't cause too many issues. However, if you have five volt electronics, you can sometimes damage them by over voltage. If you make one, a couple of AAs is a much safer bet.

Great video, Charlie. One chunk of trivia about King George V, was that it was lent by BR to HP Bulmer the cider makers in Hereford and was restored by them. I spent many a summer holiday staying with my grandmother several streets away from Bulmers and getting in to the depot when it was open. The pullman coaches were named after the wives of Bulmers' directors. All sadly ancient history, but I did find one of Bulmers' working yard diesels from the time called "Pectin" at a preserved line (but my memory fails me on which).

Hi Charlie. I ran up against the same 'fun' short circuit problem for a very similar reason. I solved it by incorporating a DCC autoreverser module (Available from Block Signalling and other manufacturers) into the nest of wires under the board . More costly of course than a simple red to black wire splice, but effective.

Thanks for your work Charlie, a truly lovely planned layout. The "track-cam" was interesting, good resolution and low-light capabilities. The only possible negative is poor image stabilisation (not too sure if that is configurable). I use an old Runcam camera on my RC aircraft and that handles movement really well. Some great railway modelling going on Charlie, a lot of really helpful tips and advice as usual. I decided to reduce my train lengths to 5 carriages (but then my layout is only currently 8' x 5' and it's Hornby Dublo 3-Rail of course), mainly to reduce the load and minimize wear and tear as much as possible. I really like the helix idea and having a fiddle yard set below, it makes use of the available space and means there's more places for scenery, buildings and the like.

Charlie, love the video. I have wired up a one track feeder the same way to my buss wires too. I think we have all done it at some point. I was using those ACCU-LITES VAMPIRE II - DCC BUSS Connection boards to speed along wiring up my feeders. I guess I got distracted and reversed it at the Accu-Lite. Lucky me! I noticed a few comments on the red and black feeders. For the more visually minded, rather than trying to think through it, take one of your less valuable coaches or a freight put a strip of black tape down one side and a strip of red tape down the other side. As you wire up your layout push that car along to remind which wire goes where. If you push through a return loop and find your colors are now reversed, then you need an AR1 or something in that reverse loop. Really simple.

Hi Charlie, A further tip regarding centrally positioning point blades when ballasting. Once glue has been dripped onto ballast and before it dries get a Qtip and gently hold downwards onto sleeper and gently hold again inside of the point blade. Do this for all moveable areas. This will soak up any glue under the blade and sleeper. You may need two q tips. Sometimes I might use a bit of kitchen towel.

As usual Charlie, interesting, fun and useful information. Glad to see the progress you are making. I am now replacing all my track connections to the bus so I can instakll the barrier terminals as you have done. This comes after a short circuit appeared that took me a weejk and a ton of disaasembly to find. Naturally, as you did, I connected one of the track pairs in reverse. I am guesssing I interrupted what I was doing for a trip to the local pub and when I got back I was reversed! Anyway in the long run a good thing as I fixed the color code and added the terminals and its a lot more maintainable now. Of course, progress was a bit delayed!! Thanks again for a nice video!

Hi Charlie why have you reversed the red and black in west yard. The only point you need to reverse red and black is the shoe fly. What you need to do is fit an auto reversee on rhe shoe fly, make sure the shoe fly will take the whole length of the train.Mike

Hi Charlie another great and interesting video. You mentioned and showed your new GWR King George V with a rack of Pullman Coach's. The rack of pullmans that ran with KGV were I believe in the corporate colours of Bulmer's Cider Company of Hereford. Bulmer's in Hereford was where KGV was stored when not out on the mainline. I can remember going to Hereford with my dad to see KGV and other steam locos that were kept their on one of the open days.

Hi Charlie, nice to see lots of progress being made. Just one small point, with regard to the "error" with the colour of the wires... Rather than introduce another potential high resistance connection with that chock block, perhaps a different way of tackling if the same situation crops up in the future would be to slip some correctly coloured head shrink tube or a sleeve over the wires instead? All the best, Jon M.

Hi Charlie, just a thought on train lengths. Back in the early seventies I travelled on the WCML between Euston and Lichfield. On the longer express services passengers had to alight from the first 5 coaches, as the platform at Lichfield wasn't long enough. This was pre CDL. Trains still use short platforms using Selective door opening to prevent people alighting on to the ballast. Keep up the good work. Regards Martin

Brilliant work Charlie. So happy to see board 5 in place - that's been a long time coming - but I do appreciate all the other work you've been doing in parallel. Really interesting to see the short (red to the rear fail) - how long did it take you to identify the particular wiring that was wrong? Did you disconnect half the wires to isolate the issue to one half or the other? We all make mistakes. It's how we identify the issue and correct it that makes the difference. That new camera is going to give some great drive through films.

Love your work Charlie, retired Navy Greenie here too (RAN). You mentioned in this vid that you couldn't quite remember the steam era, being 5 years older than your good self I do recall, as a young lad of 4/5 years of age, my grandmother telling me not to stick my head out of the carriage window because I would get soot in my eyes. So, quick as a flash, I stuck my head out of the window, just to look about, and promptly got soot in my eyes didn't I. One of life's early lessons I think. 😁

Great stuff. had a brainwave....the thing missing from your layout which might help hide the helix rods is.......Japanese Knotweed, as used (?) by British Rail to stabilise embankments. Much more resilient than adding trees or ivy and creeps everywhere, I've read. Not sure if you can get a miniature species, but if you can create one, you might be onto a good product! Great video as always, and it helps to remind me I should really be making progress on my own layout!
