We head out to the local Reed Lakes Trail for some summer fun! With massive boulders, lush green mountains and icy blue glacier fed lakes, it isn't hard to see why this is a popular trail located in the beautiful Hatcher Pass of Alaska.

Beautiful country there, thanks for the video feast for the eyes. As a semi-old guy who's kicked around the BC back country for most of my adult life, I'm glad to see the shoo bear strapped to Eric's chest there. All the bears were good bears and ran away from me until the day one didn't. One never knows and it's better to be safe. Thanks again and stay well you two.

I've been following you both for a while now and I must say, I really enjoy your video and editing skills. Not too fast, not too slow, and the right amount of commentary. One of the things that caught my attention to this is how at the end of almost every session, you video without commentary. It's just so relaxing. It's like you're just hanging out with friends without superfluous filler. So, yah. I like it.

Wy cant dogs go there? Are the stones bad for their paws? I dont have a dog. Can Dogs have some kind of "shoes" for this rockfields? Or wont they not like them? Or are those rockfkelds dangerous because they can slip? I always thought, dogs could go everywhere. And looks like, they had real fun out there.
@AngieMiddleton
@AngieMiddleton 4 года назад
Paula Alto the boulder field is not only large In size but there are a lot of areas where it’s continuous ups and downs with sharp rocks. Plus depending on weather it can be slippery there. Wouldn’t be difficult for a dog to get a stone bruise on their pad no matter there age. Some dogs won’t even attempt it. When I have done this trail I always come home with very achey ankles and knees.

00:35 ... bet that water is very very cold. I still remember sticking my head in a small mountain rivulet near Aspen Colorado back in 1974 .... BIG mistake! I had instant brain freeze - more than I normally have day to day ~8^) 04:25 M-a-r-m-o-t .... love'em! Tons of them in the mountains of Utah were I used to camp on the weekends/vacations. It's amazing how high up that you find hummingbirds ... they really really love those mountain flowers. The scenery in the Western US & Alaska reminds me of Switzerland ... you can't take a bad picture if you tried. Same goes for the Adirondacks in upstate New York. Thanks tons for filming your trip ... quite a beautiful day of adventure. Take care you two.

WOW! What scenery! Thanks so much for showing this to us. I just wish all the kids shooting each other up in these neighborhoods could be afforded a chance to really see what America really is like. All the wildness our Ancestors saw when they came through, when the land was wild. If you made a wrong step or ran across a bear or other big creature you might be a goner. Thanks for those arial shots too, they are showcasing that park very well. I'm too old for that kind of stuff now, or on my last legs of it, but there was a time when I did go through parts of Canada on a canoe trail for 2 weeks out in the Wilds of Quetico Provincial park. It wasn't as magnificent as the mountains, but it was pretty too. We were there for the 4th of July, and we stayed up by the fire for a bit and the Northern Lights came out. Best fireworks show ever! We had a good night paddle that night! The colors, the blues the greens, all shooting across the night sky, with all the stars out. I never saw anything like it again. But at least I saw it, that night. You 2 take care, and be safe. You might need a walking stick or hiking stick, if the trail gets rocky or slippy. Make sure those boots are firm around the ankles, so they don't twist. Wool socks that breathe. Notes from an old hiker....and all the best from your pal in Chicago....!

As a Wildlife Biologist can I just recommend you both carry bear spray. At this time of year in Alaska specifically, some females can still be with cubs and will attack to protect their cubs regardless of human intention. Same goes for cougars in recent years. It’s better to have it & not need it, than to need it & not have it! Actually you two could you it at the cabin if a bear decides to invite itself into the cabin. Be safe✌🏻
@peacefulwife5199
@peacefulwife5199 4 года назад
I know Eric is packing something more powerful than bear spray. Sometimes bear spray just pees the bear off and comes at you a whole lot more angry. Better to put a shot in them if they are charging. You definitely do not want to be bear dinner.
@charlenekociuba7396
@charlenekociuba7396 4 года назад
@@peacefulwife5199 I took 3 bear safety classes, Anchorage, Ketchican and Denali. Bear spray was not on the list. Making noise, blasting a radio and staring down looking bigger than they are, arms up overhead, never run. That is what I've memorized. The only bear that thinks of us as dinner is the polar bear, the rest are skiddish and will avoid, except the momma as pointed out.. Be alert and don't try to approach a young cub, common sense.

I stumbled on your Videos for a month now. I love your show ... very informative and relaxing. I watched a few and decided to subscribe to your Channel and started to watch from the beginning. It was fascinating ... to know ... your decision process from California ... Oregon ... to Alaska. I have enjoyed watching you both. Working together as Husband and a Supportive Wife. I have learned so much from watching your Videos. Ariel, you make it so easy .... to bake a bread ... tortillas ... flatbread. And Eric ... you're there ... together cooking together. I love your Cooking videos. I wish you would say in your video ... what ingredients you're cooking. I just love your way of cooking ... your garden ( beautiful vegetables ... ) But this Video ... I had to show my Husband ... the beauty of back country Alaska. It reminded us of our hiking days during camping when we were younger. I used to gather wild flowers and brought a vase for camping. Love your videos. Thank you for sharing

I don't recall which video it was on, but I just tried your tip for soaking greens, with the kale we'll be having for dinner tonight. Oh my goodness I just took it out of the bowl and it was squeaky it was so crisp! I had known market gardeners do that to preserve greens for sale, but I never would have tried it just for our own dinner harvests, but you've got a convert! THANK YOU for sharing!

Missed you guys on the Reed Lakes trail by a couple days. Beautiful hike! Maybe someday you can make it up to Bomber Glacier and see the old downed TB-29 Superfortress.
