On "My Car Story" we're in the West Suburbs of Chicago IL on 5-28-23.
We're looking at a 1960 Ford Sunliner in Raven Black Paint. The car comes with the 352 CI V8 Engine and has an automatic transmission.
The car's Owner is Tony Leidig. Tony’s had this car since 2000. He shares he enjoys building cars and this one is a personal favorite because of all the original parts on this car. This one looks showroom new and rides like you’re driving on a cloud.
ENJOY!

ah. this was one of my friend's first car. he immediately put a 4 track tape deck in it. it was when 4 tracks first came out. most people probably never even heard of a 4 track tape player. but they came out before the 8 track player that many are familiar with.. the tape cartridge looked the same. but it had a hole in the bottom, about the size of a 1/2 dollar that the head went up into when you inserted the tape. these were beautiful cars that rode like you were on a cloud. thanks for sharing.

That 1960 Ford Sunliner convertible with 352 CI engine is a sight to behold! That car has all the options available for that year. Now I know why these cars are so rare, since they were illegal in 4 states for being too wide! The engine sounds healthy and quiet too. The black paint job with red interior look great together. that Galaxie Sunliner is a true gem. A spectacular specimen indeed Lou!

My dad bought a new 1960 Raven Black Galaxie 2 dr post sedan back then. Only options were 292 V8, 2 speed Fordomatic and AM radio. Waxed and polished every summer. My recollection was the reverse lights were standard on the Galaxie, Starliner and Sunliner models. Beautiful car. Owned it for 10 years until it totally rusted out and fell apart in northern Ohio.

Absolutely stunning car...and you NEVER see 1960 Fords, in ANY model! No sedans, wagons or hardtops...never mind a convertible. The one and only thing this car shares with any other full sized Ford, is the dashboard. This same dashboard appeared on the 61 and 62 Fords, with only minor changes. Many thanks to the proud owner for keeping this beautiful car as original as possible. Thanks again, Lou!

Those aren’t bulls eye or a gun sights. They are symbolic of our Star the Sun. ☀️ Oh yeah, my 2 Sunliners are 1/18 scale. 😂 This 1 year model I believe was the most unique and beautiful car. Some will criticize that Ford got the idea of the flat fins from the 59 Chevy. Ford went back to the fins reminiscent of the 57 Fairlane. Have a great day Lou.

It's clear Ford designers were exploring new directions with the Sunliner. The sweeping profile and wide stance really made a departure from the bulbous 50's style. I think I'd read this look wasn't as popular because it was too different than what most people expected. Fortunately, that styling approach persevered on the '61-'63 T-birds. This example is clearly a gem. 🙂

1960 Ford Starliner/Sunliner. The 1960-1961 Ford Starliner/Sunliner was a high-performance fastback variant of the 1960-1961 Ford Galaxie 500 with an upgraded interior, gold-colored "Starline" badges, and a new metal trim, and a new grille. The four most powerful engines in the Starliner were the 352 Cubic Inch FE V8, 390 Cubic Inch FE V8, 406 Cubic Inch FE V8, and 427 Cubic Inch FE V8. The 406 Cubic Inch FE V8 made around 401 Horsepower and 425 Pound Feet of Torque while the 427 Cubic Inch Ford FE V8 made around 425 Horsepower and 450 Pound Feet of Torque. Around 69,000 were built in 1960 and 28,000 were built in 1961.

Wow! What an amazing car! I have always liked the styling of the 1960 Galaxie line. They looked so clean and streamlined compared to a lot of the other cars of that time. And this is probably the best example that I have ever seen! Thanks, Lou!

The Ford Sunliner has a unique role in rock and roll history. Back in the 60's there was a rock and roll group that called itself The Sunliners, after the Ford Sunliner convertible, the one band member owned. The car was used to transport them to their gigs. You might not recognize "The Sunliner" name, but you might know them by their later name "Rare Earth".

Tal vez sea tu nueva cámara, Lou, jeje. ¡Saludos cordiales!

Hi Jaime, Happy to share this Fun Ford with you :-) Enjoy reading the details you notice. This one was videoed on my past camera and the videos from 6/14/23 forward are videos with the new camera (if you look in the description it will share the "date" I videoed the car, not the same date as when I upload the video), Glad you're along for the ride, Lou

This year & model Galaxy 500 ( not the convertible here ) 4 door Ford was featured in the first season of the Andy Griffith Show. I remember being impressed by the looks of the grille of this car. I still am. Cars in the and made in the US back then were works of architecture as well as mechanical. Today's whatever you want to call them are a joke compared to these works of art.

My 1960 story … last year grandad bought for himself. A 2 door hardtop. 4 cylinder 3 speed manual. No power steering or breaks. He didn’t believe in 8 cylinder engines.. automatics, power .. nothing. Lol cranky conservative old guy, a lot like Archie Bunker. He DID know how to work on them and could fix anything. I may be mistaken it could have been a six, but he wouldn’t buy an 8. In 63 he bought grandmother a Falcon. Same set up. I was was a little kid but I remember well her fighting the steering wheel, and shifting! Makes me mad now, she was 5 feet tall and weighed 90 pounds! She was 60? I dunno. 😢 he did get her an under dash ac in 65 I think. He had money he could have bought her a Comet with power steering and automatic but I can hear his voice now, “just more shit to fix to break later”. This car!!! ❤

I always loved the exterior styling, on the full-size 1960 Fords! I remember seeing them frequently, when I was a kid in the mid-sixties, living in Southern Oregon. Unlike full-size offerings from GM and Mopar in 1960..the Fords bore NO exterior resemblance, to '59 or '61 full-size Fords. They were truly unique looking..ONLY for that model year! I could never understand why Ford totally resigned the exterior AGAIN, for '61. Maybe the '60 Ford styling, was not well-received by the car-buying public, even though I REALLY liked it??
