I think the word you were looking for was "shih", -> a general can harness potential, or shih, from the conditions around them to subdue the enemy without fighting.

You have to be able to read between the lines regarding the art of war. It says so much, with so little. You really have to examine it's meanings to see it and understand. The 33 strategies of war expands on the art of war in perspective. It's beautiful.

i found you maybe over a decade ago after quoting sun tzu to war a game strategist in eve online, who informed me of the much more modern relevance of the 48 laws of power (before war was written) now in my mind i cannot seperate sun-tzu from robert greene

Therefore one skilled in battle --- His shih is steep. His node short. Shih is like drawing the crossbow. The node is like pulling the triger." In another section, " One who uses shih sets people to battle as if rolling trees and rocks. As for the matter of trees and rocks -- When still, they are at rest. When agitated, they move. When square, they stop. When round, they go. Thus the one skilled at setting people to battle is like rolling rocks from a mountain one thousand jen high. This is shih."

At least in business, there's not a heavy recruiting presence or duty, because work is considered at-will, because there's very little dependence. Symbol: the Sickle regarding even the dullest of instruments will clear a perfectly timed wheat field with ease. See also Chapter #35 (48 Laws book 📖), Master the art of timing. Symbol: Circling Hawk. And not the least Chapter 37, on valuing symbols and spectacle. Symbol: The Sun 🌞 The key 🔑 for me is maneuvering into a position to lure, and equally important never be lured, (see 48 laws on stirring up waters to catch fish & use bait if necessary.) Position yourself for Annihilation or Encirclement as an alluring trap, in an ultimate reversal of the Annihilation strategy (chapter and symbol unknown atm) See this is contradictory to Do Not Build Fortresses, and constantly changing groups or places, remaining formless in a sense. The idea is setting up a fake stronghold, like the false front strategies of the Allied Invasion circa WWII... This made more sense to me before I wrote this, be back later!
