The gambling watchdog is scouring the social media accounts of all those who put bets on a July election amid expectations that “a lot more names” will emerge in the latest scandal to rock Rishi Sunak’s election campaign.
Gambling Commission officials are understood to be looking through all bets of more than £20 and searching for links between those who placed the bets and Conservative Party officials or MPs.
There was a sixfold rise in bets on a July election on May 21, the day before Sunak announced the date, raising suspicions that more people acted on their privileged information than has been revealed.
