They don’t need to tax meat and dairy, they just need to reduce (and later remove) the subsidies to animal agriculture. That would mean a reduction in tax.

This is getting beyond parody. Reminds me of that bit in The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy where the plans were on display "in the bottom of a locked filing cabinet stuck in a disused lavatory with a sign on the door saying 'Beware of the Leopard.'" Main difference, of course, being that at least _those_ plans actually existed.

I'm glad to see the press really holding them to task. I'm Canadian, and I find many times our press will pose the direct question once, but then they let the politicians obfuscate, and move on. 20 years ago while living in Belgium, i remember having at least 4 "bins" for recycling. That was normal, no one's head blew up because they had to do it. I loved it and was thinking surely Britain will be doing the same soon. 2023: my local council has 2 bins and plastic isn't recycled at all
