Since joining the EU, British politicians have become increasingly incapable of actually running the country. They cannot make any decisions without first having to ask someone else what to do
This guy says covid and the Ukraine war caused the economic crisis, no it didn't, this is a common lie, the government's chosen reaction did. No one forced you to lock down the entire population and double the national debt, no one forced you to declare an all out sanctions war on Russia.
It not Socialism. Try and understand decades of open borders Globalisation has got us here. It has ultimately hollowed out the West. We are post capitalism now living under an international oligarchy. The Anglo-sphere Right needs to understand it got the economics wrong and hasn't conserved anything from 1945.
There are a lot of establishment insiders out there, all playing games, spinning the truth to manipulate opinions. Truth is - the picture shows Mathew was not 15 but around 10 years old when Phil met him. Saville, Rolf, Phil - I think there is a clear pattern that the media promotes not just hmosxls but nonces. Half the population is not gy, so why 100% of presenters are? Majority of which are nonces. That's our issue here. The tv is spinning it just like Prnc Andrew.
Pedophiles are a much more local issue effecting people’s children and local institutions or something with as much cultural sway as the BBC. Douglas is an intellectual who due to his orientation probably does not have children of his own. Parents and the elderly are invested in their daytime TV presenters for better or worse and they hold these institutions and positions of power in high regard as its local to them. Russia and its nukes are not a local issue. The plebs who don’t want their kids getting groomed know that that is something they may have the power to change. But stopping Putin is not exactly in most peoples wheel house. Douglas is right, when he is speaking only for people such as himself.
@@FRANKMUSIKOFFICIAL again the media lies about everything. Putin is part of the UN Security Council. Ukraines Neo nazi army was trained by the UN 10 years ago, and they have been bombing the south east of their country for the past ten years. Yet we are told Putin started it. He signed a Minsk accord agreement with Merkel and Ukraine which he never broke. They were to stop bombing the south east. Its another phoney war. Making billions out of tax payers money on arms deals brokered by elites.
@@FRANKMUSIKOFFICIAL But it's not local people who are milking the Scofield story - it's the national media. Also, it may have traction with some people because of the child abuse angle, but there is almost no interest in such stories when the abuse is of ordinary kids, such as in the grooming gang scandals. The reason the media is giving wall-to-wall coverage of Scofield is because it's a showbiz/celebrity story and also taps into related themes like the 'Me Too' movement. I think Murray is 100% right that the media loves obsessing over this sort of nonsense in part because it's a lot easier and more fun than having to think about difficult, serious and complex matters.
@@FRANKMUSIKOFFICIAL would that those concerned about children and young people had the courage to speak out about systemic grooming as Douglas has. He is one of the few men who talk about the issues of the erasure of women or the usurpation of the NHS management and the infiltration of education by the transcult, which is a huge problem and where the grooming is much more successful. because so many are afraid to call it out. He has been called transphobic, and a traitor to gays for his conseqential as opposed to spurious and salacious work in this regard and one of the few writers who take on the power of the transcult. That is why women who challenge the T agenda and all that goes with it admire Douglas’s work.
@@christinehill1038 easier said than done Christine. In an ideal world I'd agree with you but there will never be peace anywhere since even republics have their hierarchies and when we look at the USA or China, both systems struggle too. I take your point to some degree though.
To respond to this and another podcast in which it was claimed that Rishi had to deal with a "Pandemic that nobody could have predicted". They could. They did. Not only that, they predicted an entirely more deadly pandemic. Instead of following the plan already laid out, they decided to place us under house arrest. The reason they made this decision and it having little to do with the pandemic at hand is discussed by others. It remains irrefutable that Rishi's predicament was caused by the outrageous reaction to one of the mildest pandemics in human history. I don't recall him being opposed to that. So, yes, the rejected by the Conservative Party PM was responsible for that.
That is the problem with the current world in general... real life or work life.... people give too much importance to what one say, then what they DO.....
A different slant from Douglas' Displacement Activity argument. I think the schadenfreude over Schofield's fall isn't necessarily personal. I think many ordinary people absolutely despise our censorious, woke, 'holier than thou' 'betters' in the mainstream media. Those people constantly lecture us ordinary plebs over racism, LGBT++ issues, Brexit, etc. They shame our sportsmen & women into 'taking the knee' - making sport a tool for their identity politics; they censor comedy, literature & art whilst they look down on us.) Schofield is the perfect poster boy for that elite, self-important, virtue-signaling, woke media class. Therefore his fall due to a sex scandal, lying, hypocrisy, (& even possible questions over of the 'P' word) is seen as delicious payback by us 'Normies' & Ignorant 'Gammons'.
Sunak Caused the problem that they are now so arcanely discussing. To most people this is not an exercise in political theory, it is about everyday effects on ordinary people. Sunak has betrayed the people who voted Conservative and broken every pledge and promise. Apart from the students of politics, no one wants this government, the Labour government, or any of the mainstream parties. It is not something that they can't wait to pontificate about. The people want a stable, prosperous country not flooded by foreigners. The political mainstream seems to exist for its own benefit. The commentators seem to like the sound of their own voices and vie with each other to see who can talk the most obscurely.
Everyone in this country is from somewhere and came at some time in the past or now, stop pushing your squalid fascist agenda. The problem is incompetent government resulted in brexshit and now we are in a downward spiral.
Douglas Murray is 100% correct about ITV breakfast TV personalities. I just don't understand it at all. I'd find it much more interesting to discuss why our government is so incompetent that it can't arrange for last winter's potholes to be filled in to make our roads safe for cyclists, motorcyclists and motorists. A government that can't achieve simple things like this does not deserve to be in office and that is the scandal that we need to discuss.
Just listening to the first 5 minutes. Sunak may be having to clean up the mess, but he has responsible for a large proportion of that mess for since 2019. As Kate he state he is in fully charge, but he held one of the major offices of state, Kate claims he is most competent PM in Economics. So did he really not think that a consequence of his decisions over the period of time since Dec 2019 would not leave to inflation, interest rates returning to normality. Price Controls is that something he found buried away in a No 10 Draw and he did not read the name Antony Barber advice to Ted Heath!!!
@@alexandragrange9125 and me normal uk pureblood mum/granny has loads of common sense , stop groveling,,, if these guys had to drive a lorry, work on building site well yes, but other wise they are ok ish
Douglas Murray is absolutely spot on with his analysis of the current British condition. We are in the doldrums lacking good ideas and preoccupied with the so called woke trend. The current national malaise needs to stop. Great Britain. Is it ?
Seb Payne centre right? No way just another Blairite like almost every so called CR media outlet including the Speccy. Lets not forget the speccy wanted rid of Boris and wanted rid of Truss so their best mate James Forsyth could work for Sunak. The clever economists are now saying Truss was right and the bond markets are worse now than when they went after Truss. Energy was bottled by Sunak when he stopped fracking, we could be energy secure yet all these so called tories want net zero. Tory members detest this government because they never voted for the leader. You lot in W1 will get your comeuppance.
He's right in what he says, but it also needs saying that the corporate world is just as full of "employee surveys" and other bilious exhalations of pointless and under-occupied HR departments. The civil service has, I suspect, learned these productivity-draining habits from the private sector.
Douglas Murray has an unerring accuracy when it comes to hitting nails on the head. One can debate the severity (or not) of Philip Scofield’s so called crime ad infinitum, but what kind of justice is being served? The younger chap involved would I suggest have been hurt far more by the immense media attention upon the story than anything that actually took place between the two men. The public appetite to see people shamed for their actions in this way just doesn’t sit right with me. It goes far deeper than just this one story, it’s a growing tendency that is eating away at our culture and a way of deflecting attention - as Murray rightly says - from what really matters.
Douglas - How do you think it feels to be at the end of a life and having contributed to a society a whole lifetime, see it turn into an immense conglomeration of stupidity and irrelevance?
It not Socialism. Try and understand decades of open borders Globalisation has got us here. It has ultimately hollowed out the West. We are post capitalism now living under an international oligarchy. The Anglo-sphere Right needs to understand it got the economics wrong and hasn't conserved anything from 1945. Copied and pasted that comment from Evola's Sunglasses. He's not particularly chatty.
Douglas says it as it is... who cares about this trivia. I would definitely watch daytime TV if Douglas sat on the settee, now that would be worth tuning in for 😂😂😂. I wish he was sat on our parliamentary benches.
Wow, that was disappointing - Was the fact that Seb Payne running to be MP candidate under Rishi Sunak not worth mentioning? Pretty wet. I'd have liked Kate to have been able to challenge him more on that.
If I had my time again I would certainly work for the civil service, as per my father and the advice given to me at school. I would have done no work whatsoever for a few decades then retired on a generous pension paid by the mugs in the private sector. The whole is a giant, evil racket.
You could fit the number of people who could move the market like that into a masonic lodge. International market seems like a term used to disguise agency.
@@RunOfTheHind no. Learn the bigger lesson. Imagine what they will do if someone actually had policy that was intrests of the people but not international finance. They will be completely destroyed. Liberal Democracy = rule by international finance and the Merchant class
Payne's mindset is aligned with the current cohort of Tories in power; his fundamental understanding of conservatism is based entirely around economics - specifically free markets - and completely devoid of any cultural or societal appreciation. He, like Sunak, Hunt et al, are all liberals who are obsessed with free markets at the expense of all other considerations, regardless of the lip-service they performatively engage in. They essentially see the UK and its constituent nations as little more than an economic zone. They don't understand the country they govern, and they have no desire to.
Good to hear folk sports getting a mention. The internet has seen events like cheese rolling opened up to a world audience, with participants from all over the place.
Surely there is more important stuff than This Morning. If i want gossip i will seek out gossip but if i turn on the news, i want to see real news not celeb gossip. I dont care
Murray would make a good Home Secretary. He wouldn't give a damn about foot stamping, faceless judges in European Courts. Our politicians have all the backbone of amoebae.
Some blind people and disabled have not been paid their legally required incomes since the 2nd June 2022. Some blind people and disabled have not been paid their legally required incomes since the 2nd June 2022. This happened as the DWP post office payment system was terminated and replaced by eurrr NOTHING ! Clearly the most vulnerable people legally entitled UK citizens have not received any money at all since the 2nd June 2022. The DWP is required to rectify and provide emergency payments within 7 days for these legally protected people. Six months later the DWP and its suppliers have failed to put in a new payment system accessible by blind people. Clearly nothing in the DWP system is legal or fit for purpose cost the tax payer billions. The DWP explain that a new payment system for the blind disabled would not ready or tested for blind people. This leaves the most vulnerable in society UK citizens starving, no heating, no food, no access to medical care or government services in freezing weather. The NHS warned the government that this is entirely preventable which may result in a national health emergency for many people with severe disabilities requiring hospital beds over christmas collapsing the NHS with resulting deaths. The DWP respond with the statement they have outsourced the new arrangements so the system could not pay blind people. A urgent parliamentary enquiry is underway with the Joseph foundation warning the DWP failure is causing a domino effect over Christmas and breach of UK law. The DWP have offered many apologies and have offered compensation to all individuals. However the charities say this is totally inadequate. Rishi Sunak will need to resign immediately in letting it soo bad soo quickly in breach of his contract of employment as prime minister and intentional legal breach Which comes closely after the fix penalty notices issued to Boris Johnson which forced his resignation. The charities have asked for parliament to be recalled over Christmas and a state of emergency declared at this jaw dropping failure. You could not believe that this would happen under UK law in 2022 /23 ? The PM must go immediately, remember no pollution can hold public office who has discriminated against the severally disabled blind by primary legislation….so yet another disaster, another PM on the wrong side of the law…..
I feel a bit sorry for Rishi Sunak, but only a bit. He's a decent chap, the last one left standing after the Prime Ministerial musical chairs of the last decade. But this voter can not accept the abject failure of the Tory Party during 13 years to bring real prosperity to the country or deal with problems such as law and order, immigration or the bottomless pit that is the NHS. Over more than 50 years of voting in General Elections I have only once not voted Conservative, which was in 1997, when I spoiled my ballot paper. Then as now, the Tory Party was clueless and not worth voting for, and as far as I'm concerned they've already lost the next election. I don't relish the alternative, but it might be difficult to tell the difference.
I've just listened to a Spectator podcast in which Fraser Nelson talked absolute, out of touch, metropolitan tosh about no-one minding about mass immigration. Nigel Farage immediately put him in his place. Spectator subscription for me? With Nelson there - no thanks.
The irony is not lost when Douglas Murray talks about media focus then the Spectator discuss a Spanish election and cheese rolling. Thse guys are best mates with all the tories and it shows!
The arms companies that lobby the government to buy new gear love us giving away our tanks to Ukraine. It means we have to buy their new tanks to replace the lost ones. I only hope that we're selling them rather than giving them away 🙄
@@eightiesmusic1984 I assume you're talking about Joe Biden. Actually, he's a corrupt and authoritarian piece of scum, but I'll move on to Putin and Zelensky Before the war, Ukraine was known as the most corrupt country in Europe. Zelensky has imposed more authoritarian restrictions on his subjects' populace than actually exist in Russia. He's shut down a major religion of the Ukrainian people, Russian Orthodox. He's restricted speech. He only got in because the US spearheaded a coup that took out the newly elected president, and t-shirt trash then was installed. I'm no Putin fan by any means, but we need to be intelligent in how we approach things. Russia is understably concerned about having a future Nato country on its border, as US has threatened they become. NATO is already too big.Ukraine. Putin is hardly a modern day Hitler. Our old pal Stalin was pretty close, if not worse, with the intentional famine he created in Ukraine in the 1930s, where millions died of starvation. How about we negotiate a settlement? I don't think it's great to have so many Ukrainians killed and maimed. Why is any of this is our responsibility? I follow Poland quite a bit, and they are not particularly concerned. But as a "coalition partner" they naturally go along and spew the party line. is not especially concerned. The majority of the people in the NATO nations in Western Europe oppose this war that they never approved, and in the case of France, Macron got no approval from their national assembly or senate. (I know the most about France as I go there for at least 3 months a year, and hope to get out of this shithole of a country and move there.). The huge amount of money being spent should be spent on America. Maybe we could use it to establish speedy immigration courts to get rid of folks whose low wages have helped hold middle class wages flat for decades. On a note of agreement, I really like '80s music too!
I don’t understand why Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby are so famous anyway. As Douglas says only 1% of the population tune into This Morning - incidentally the only times I’ve seen it have been in waiting rooms before doctors appointments because otherwise I would be working and unable to watch morning TV. Why do these people have such a high profile and why is everyone obsessed with them?
These two are frightening, if this is an example of a society and financial ethos going forward I'm in fear of my children's future. How can we have a yank on a think tank in the UK, failing that why do we allow think tanks in a so called democratic state where our government in the background engage with these likes
If you are going to call Sunak a socialist (which he isn't) then at least add champagne . You like to call any other wealthy lefty that and sunak is wealthier than all of them.
He is a 'champagne socialist' then. I prefer 'New Labour'. Some might say 'centrist'. Some might say 'Wet'. The metaphors are irrelevant really. The issue is he is damaging the county by not being Conservative. He lacks good judgement and the courage to take a calculated risk. He is no Thatcherite and thus he is the wrong person to be PM
Douglas is correct - displacement activity is all. We in Australia have different displacement activities that are prima facie more serious … and dangerous as the point is to conceal what they are doing that is both stupid and dangerous to the youth if the country.
Sorry @ Dr. John Campbell you should have a chat with another RU-vid channel called the Duran. Last year was the time to get the iodine tablets (witch we did I) because the Ukrainian army was shelling the power plant and the IEEA are a waste of time a shell even landed while the ieea where on site and still couldn’t tell who the shell came from ??? And Russia called in the ieea. If the ieea wanted to do something it should have acted last year instead they took a year to come out with a report full of lies. A hard truth for some but none the less the truth
As much as I admire Douglas Murray for his intellect I am saddened to see his hair get shorter and shorter till barely any remains when if I’m not mistaken he had a fantastic head of curly hair !! Why has he cut it all off ?
So, a select committee will be quizzing ITV bosses on the vitally important matter of what has been going on regarding the host of a breakfast TV programme. Is there any chance, I wonder, of a select committee investigating the matter of excess deaths in the UK, which have now been running at levels of up to 20% above the average for many months?
What happens in cheap restaurants, when someone asks " Is everything alright with your meal " arrogant arse. Most people struggle to pay bills and a evening out at a restaurant that ask if all is ok is a treat. Out of touch and blatantly overpaid.
I'm not sure it's right to call the Bravermann affair "trivial". I'd say it's more looking for sleeze on a contentious figure who has historically lacked credibility. Braverman's disingenuous discourse cuts across views on immigration. If you want less immigration, Braverman is distracting from the topic by the pretence that asylum seekers are the cause of mass scale immigration. If you feel immigrants are unfairly scapegoated then their is the rwanda affari. I might agree that the discourse is bad faith.
Codswallop ! Sunak and the Tories are implementing 755 + of Corbyn's economic policies. Credit to Andrews - whom I don't exactly warm to - for implicitly suggesting this. Payne is trying to get the nomination for a Tory seat at the election, so he played the 'Tory Boy' routine, acting as a Government apologist. They have 14 years to apologise for.. Or will - come next year. The Tories are just Labour by another route. We await the return of Nigel. I think he's going to commit - but he's saving the announcement for next year and maximum impact. Then we will at least have a choice for something else, other than Labour or ersatz Labour.
Sunak the socialist. 🤣🤣🤣🤣 At any time, Sunak will start waving a hammer and sickle flag while quoting Mao. He will lead the world proletariat against the corporations, NATO and the Spectator any minute now.
Summary: Rishi who had white-anted Boris from the right flank (not at all difficult to do) which apparently Kate bought hook, line and sinker. So much so that she saw him as a modern Thatcherite........ There are no words.
As the Communist Revolution rages all around us (I gather they have captured the King's military Top Brass!), THE SPECTATOR continues to analyse whether 'top' Tories are conservative; and - if so - by how much? And all without discussing in what 'conservatism' consists. And so, we get all the usual economic contributions; with none of the philosophical. Roger Scruton would be appalled. Is "helping mothers back into the work place" a truly conservative value? How about helping families so that it is unnecessary for TWO people to require jobs in order to raise children? These 'kids' who are debating the issue of SUNAK need to be vastly more 'radical' in their anlysis of conservatism.
This is D. Murray on repeat. I thought he'd have answered my comment on the original by this time but that's alright because herewith an insert. After Consensual 'Consensually heartless? Informed consensual heartlessness would have been more to the point....my little brother was just 11 when a Schofield- equiv. took him down and he never got up........
The point Douglas Murray makes here is exactly how I’d describe US politics too. We’re undoubtedly the worst with it IMO, but the more foreign news sources (with translations) I search for, the sadder and more alarming it gets as I realize *most* nations’ news cycles are doing this too. Seems we’re seeing the results of allowing such insidiously symbiotic, unholy trifectas of media/corporate/military. It’s too late for revolution. Gonna be a slow draining of citizens instead
Reg. Douglas’ article: I don’t think this is an either/or issue. Remember Jimmy Saville? P. Schofield’s involvement with young boys is hopefully not as extensive, but his influence is still enormous. This is separate from world matters, but not less important. Yes, everyone loves gossip, but if grooming and media corruption on a large scale are not impartially investigated, it is a very serious matter and affects the public at large. I respect Murray, but he is flippant on this issue.
I’m old, I have excellent headphones and loudspeakers, but I find many of the voices on Spectator TV muffled and almost unintelligible when they aren’t on old black and white films. I’m a fan of the Spectator and very much enjoy the TV program when I can understand what’s being said. Sorry to complain, but you lot are a breath of fresh air after the tripe broadcast served up by alternatives.
One of the biggest drivers of inflation is energy. Windfall taxes and therefore lack of investment are driving increased imports and higher prices, along with our energy pricing formula which is a market distortion. This is not good policy and certainly not good Tory policy. I agree with Kate, he’s giving Starmer space to introduce policies that would otherwise drive votes towards the Tories.
Distraction Media mayhem. What's next, who is porking their pet. Hold the front page, "we'll give you the very, very latest" just as soon as we can make it up!
We need a pledge from Tories for material tax cuts for when inflation reaches 2%, we need a cap on total immigration at 40k per year; we need efficiencies saved in public services (there are GBP billions available!); we need the participation rate up (stop funding the benefits gamers) we need the NHS reformed (ie means-tested so that those who can afford it pay for their private healthcare); we need hundreds of thousands extra flats built (not houses); we need hydrogen power to be promoted instead of clumsy, inefficient electric power; we need a massive push for free trade deals and so on... All this needs to be in the next manifesto or the Tories will lose the next GE.
Proof that James Heale and Kate Andrews are definitely the same person - the green room could not accommodate a sufficient number of pies to feed both at the same time.
On the subject of the "Blob", I would like to relate my own recent experience of the HMCTS (His Majesty's Courts and Tribunal Service). On 18th November, 2022, they received my application for a grant of probate to execute my late father's will. On 24th April, 2023, someone read it (they admit there was a period of over 5 months between their "scanning it in" and a "physical examination" of the documents - their words) and it was only after my telephoning them that they actually read the paperwork I had sent them all that time ago. Over three telephone calls, I have had to wait an average of half an hour to talk to anyone. Six and a half months have now passed since my application and I still have no grant of probate, nor any indication of when I may have. In the meantime, I cannot release funds to pay my late father's creditors, which include an invoice for tens of thousands of pounds for nursing home fees. Perhaps my paperwork is in an office cabinet somewhere and the person allocated to dealing with it spent the entire period it has been in HMCTS's possession shirking from home. Our civil service is bloated and unfit for purpose and needs radical reform.
How detached that sketch writer is. I've seen him more and more lately and just wish him all the pain on the world. He will get it though, the universe loves showing Karma to those types right as things seem the sweetest.
