It seems the BBC was more high brow then, particularly BBC 2. I doubt even BBC Four would have a documentary profiling a dead newspaper owner. Also BBC1's offerings then seemed to be aimed more at middle class viewers. ITV did have a large amount of PSB as well in 1981, but this was balanced out by game shows, soaps, imports and variety shows that were less common in the BBC.
