probably in my mind the single most iconic figure of futurist electronics, post apocalyptic poet Mr John Foxx joins Mark Spybey and I today for a glimpse into John's world. What inspired the path from Tiger Lily to Ultravox's golden moments, eventually leading to creating one of the most iconic albums of our era Metamatic. I absolutely can't wait for this, it must be the quintessential chat of this series for me.

This was the most enjoyable 2hrs I've ever spent on RU-vid. Three artists whom I admire greatly but I was there for Dennis tbh. First album I ever bought in 1980 was Ultravox!

The Great John Foxx! when we were at school we used to sing along to Underpass shouting out "Underpants". It was and still is a song with great energy and it was years before I realized it was about post war pre cast concrete Britain and the loss of soul. Forging his own path back then and remaining true to this today!

...stumbled across this excellent interview...he mentions getting his forehead split open with a bottle, saying it probably happened at the Redcar Coatham Bowl.....It was actually at the Mayfair Ballroom in Newcastle where this happened...(ln January 1978) I know cos I was there!..I remember Foxx taunting the audience after the drinks/bottles started flying during Rockwrock, the 2nd song (the audience, apart from a few punks consisted mainly of heavy rock fans into Lynrd Skynrd and the like!), telling them that he could see the cobwebs hanging off every glass being thrown at them!...I remember him also telling them that not only were the band intent on finishing their set but they would be doing an encore too!..When the glass hit his forehead it was as if a red curtain came down over his face..nasty..!...I was fortunate enough to see Ultrafoxx twice more..at Reading festival in 1978 where they had the unenviable task of following Sham 69, after the riot..(!!) and also at the Middlesborough Rock Garden in September 78.I was there for the sound check...which was Gary Glitter!!

I've been following John for the last 40 years in parallel with his greatest fan, a certain Gary Numan. I've met John a few times and he's a gentleman. Signed a couple of paintings when I met up with him a Aascot in Belgium. At the Roundhouse in London he even called out good evening in Flemish as he spotted 2 Belgian flags.

After 1:30 mentioned Hawkwind, my 1st experience at Wyvern theatre Swindon, how electronic music is connected, Hawkwind uses variations of electronic music, guitars and so on .

Hmmm ... wondering what was so intimidating about *Ultravox!* ... maybe it was Warren's trousers on the album cover.

I was at the Rock Garden in 78 and my clearest memory was the song Blue Light with a stobe and the electric violin. Fantastic night and still one of my favourite gigs.

Thank you for this great interview with John. I loved the way John talked about the futurism evoked by the sound of The Shadows' electric guitar in the 1960s (even though the instrument has lost much of that sense of strangeness now). While Apache is a great track, it's the cover by Michael Viner's Incredible Bongo Band that is probably even more well known, due to its classic drum break, which has been sampled thousands of times in hip hop and jungle drum and bass - super funky and bouncy

Wow... 2 electronic music heavy weights. Kinda surprised Cevin didn't ask his take on SP from mid-80s. ;-)
