sunday morning
i remember that day we went to church
incense smoke filled the air
i sat beside you holding your hand
with flowers in my hair
days like this we can only hope but to spare
a moment of silence
a moment or two
until the organs sounds swirl throughout
our hearts intertwine and one turns to two
it’s times like these that i wish we could have seen
what once was innocence would soon be despair
i laid on your shoulder
thinking about growing up
i didn’t want to go anywhere else
i held your hand and you told me it would never be the end
a ring on my finger
metaphorical for no escape
and the only way out is to die alone
i wish i knew

but im glad i didnt
sometimes the delusion created beautiful scenes
of what i once may have thought was true
but maybe i knew

maybe i knew that this was doomed from the start
but it doesn’t make me miss you less
it doesn’t change that day
when we sat in the church
and listened to god sing

those two kids
in the church every sunday
but when i think back to when
i was just a little girl sitting in the temple
i remember knowing i was doomed
and now it all makes sense
why i wanted to bash my head into that wall
into the torah up above my head
sometimes i wonder if i ever knew anything at all
