Some great buildings on the river lost forever. Sunderland's heritage lost right there.

Alliance St was (is??) off Trimdon Street, Millfield. My old stamping ground. I remember the cobbled streets and the 'back lanes'. And the blackout during the war, was scary..

Haven’t lived in Sunderland for 30 odd years but that is how I remember it as a kid.

Full of cars now, cars everywhere. People complaining about poverty because they struggle to run their car.

I would willingly and happily go back to those days , OUR town had a purpose , it felt safe , The smell of Vaux hops pervading the town centre, the Victorian pubs , the old Joplings warehouse on Sans Street , great days , much missed , even now !in 2024

The bridges are still there, but everything else along the Wear has gone. It's been years since I spent any time there - there's nothing left to see. Last time I was up in Sunderland was after my Mam died and it was all empty space and main roads.

The streets were tarmaced and the back lanes remained cobbled. I remember that from the early 70s

We used to visit a great aunt who had a shop opposite the The Regale. The streets around hendon looked like the ones in the film with gaps in them where the germans dropped their bombs try to hit the docks.

About six cars and one dustbin. FF to 2004 and the bins outnumber the cars but not by much.
