i just got a SA 8 V.3 D4 and i got measurements from sun down themselves and this is the smallest box i ever built.after displacement for the little monster and a 3 inch PVC port thats 15 inches long it came to be right at 0.75 cft.thats a beautiful amp man.ive got that decaf song too,man that decaf shit will kill your speakers if your not really careful ya know.
Box looks to be around 1.5 cubes (guessing as I can't see internals as to what the port is doing) and might be tuned around 25hz as it seems to be playing this song fine that goes to 27hz, however with the size of port (guessing it's 10"x1.5"?) there's going to be alot of port noise, but It might not even matter at the driver seat with the music playing, you most likely wont hear it. Would be nice to get some clarification from the uploader with my guesstimates. Song is "downtown decaf" in case anyone wants to know what song he's playing.
Herus I was guessing and trying to measure with the size of that amp, gotta remember port takes up some of the volume which I factored in. I could be wrong though. Not an expert with this stuff.
Keith Nguyen Yeah I mean they might use eBay as a platform to sell the product with the box still custom-made I have one of these enclosures for my 10 inch sundown subwoofer and I completely tore my car apart
+Chris McDonald If you can here the coils in the sub that means your pushing the limit of the sub. There was no bass involved except for the higher Hz. The lows were just coils and subs flexing.
+Chris McDonald Hey man thanks for the reply! I am thinking about purchasing a box from them for a single soundqubed hdc315. Are they worth the extra dollars or should I just build another box?
That box is too big for that sub, that's why it doesn't hit the way it should. If you want one long box with one sub make it a t line and it will slam.
I believe the owner of this set up said that it was tuned in the 20 range. This would mean a ridiculous port length. That box is probably just a lot of port.
The box in the video is a Transmission line box. It is the proper size for that type of design. The "sound" you are hearing in the video is the microphone on the cell phone clipping and distorting. Since there is not way the microphone on a cell phone would be able to record such low and loud sound.
Have you tried using a normal class AB high current amp with that sub, something like an orion, ppi, mmats, etc, to see if it sounds better? Class "d" amps don't have a lot of damping ability and for some reason it seems (in my humble opinion) to take more dsp to get them to sound right. Maybe borrow something like a ppi pro mos 250 or larger and see what it sound like to you. Also, do you have the subsonic filter turned on for that amp, or does it have one? I ran an earthquake phd2 on two mtx 7500 12s and it had an internal (top secret, lol) subsonic switch. When I defeated the filter, it played deeper and sounded better. It sucks we can't actually hear it how your setup sounds in person. I actually have a dual 8" version of this box coming soon, and will be running two image dynamics subs bridged on a mmats lm amp. Can't wait to see what it can do.
In person this sounded clean and hit with authority below 60. Port area is more suited to the SA then the X. At high clean power levels there is audible port noise but the speaker clean and well within its limits. Double check your port area on your new box. Should be approx 16sq in per subwoofer. This box was closer to 10. As for amps im now running zapco DC sub amp with an e12.
2slofouru clearly your an Sq guy.. Lol. The distortion on these long throw drivers is almost inaudible anyway. Just a good box and clean power and your good to go. D-class not for some smaller image dynamics or any mid bass for sure, but with these and bigger, lower fs drivers, it really doesn't matter as long as you have enough power. I like Id subs, Id Max's sound good and loud, and the q is great Sq. The components I've had made me sick, poor crossovers except on high end models.
can I run a American Bass Ph4000 to a Sundown X8 D2?? amp is 2000 rms. Also how you like the sub? Does it sound good in/out of the car? And one last thing do you recommend this woofer??
+Jason Taylor Sounds great. Make sure you give it alot of port area. 16sqin. I wouldn't run it all out with that amp. I would keep it conservative and work your way up in power till you see its thermal handling.
It might be too big, it might not be. He could have wanted a lower tuned box, and if my guesstimates are correct, it's tuned to around 25hz and within xmax until 24hz.
for the size of the box I would say it is a transmission line box. The "shape" of the ports is not important, just the length and size is. Since there is a fair amount of calculation that go in to designing a proper "T" line box.
How can you guys tell through a phone recorded RU-vid video that this sub sounds like shit? Sundown audio makes some of the very best. And for a 10 they sound better than almost all 12s and can hit as hard as a 15. Great box great sub
Kaleb Summerville I dont know if you checked the other videos. On a 2000d sundown they have blown @ 1 cubic ft. I would say manufacturer specs. I am going @ .75 with a subsonic. Thier thermal is an unknown. Again manufacture specs. You can add a sub and use passive radiators as an alternative.
Looks to be around 1.5ish cubes, possibly a tad bit more (guessing around 30" wide 12" deep and tall, with a 10"x1.5" port.) tuning around 25hz. I could also be wrong about all that, but that's my guess.
Enclosure looks to be within spec for this sub, looks to be tuned around 25hz. If so it won't exceed xmax on 800 watts and is safe to around 24hz, 3 hz below this songs lowest tone of 27. Infinite baffle isn't the correct term in this case.
ya'll saying his box too big have never seen this video haha ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-7TEOp04lpZc.html agreed though, neither of these applications are how I would do things but to each their own.
I think, what people are saying, is that you can get a lot more out of a sub, with a properly designed enclosure Case in point ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-tY5ijVq2QzE.html
