Thanks for showing how desperate the water levels are getting in Lake Powell and Lake Mead. Even the Mighty Mississippi is very low. With all the other problems we are facing the loss of our water supplies have got to be the most frightening. So little coverage by MSM about how serious this has become. I know that wasn't the point of your content but creators like you help get the message out that we are losing our water supply. Thanks.

He was having a great time tearing around showing off until he launched it from a dead stop with the trim set wrong or something, because he dipped the rear end into the water and it sunk like a rock. I'd bet something similar happened to this one.

Oh boy. Memories of going through Page (from the UK) to get to the north rim of the Grand Canyon. The comment about the heat was apt as it was so hot we had to stay in our air conditioned motel room in the afternoon/evening as it was blisteringly hot (we Brits aren't used to that!). Nice and cool at the canyon though. This was the year of the fires and fortunately the road to the north rim had just reopened the day we got there. Had to dodge some wild turkeys on the 89.

Hey Paul I was a marine mechanic for 30 yrs , and I have seen 3 of those boats sink and they sink just like an airboat, people forget to slow down gradually and if you suddenly back off the gas the wave behind you will swamp you and it will go down tail 1st VERY QUICKLY! In like 20 or 30 seconds and you will be swimming. So be careful and remember no sudden stops. Great find though!

That is true on 98% of haul designs on vintage speed boats but a dominator or eliminator the best ones built will not do this its all about how it's designed to sit in the water
@dwaynet2184
@dwaynet2184 Год назад
@@jeremyhanna3852 maybe you should back the video up to where Paul is at the jet drive and from the waterline to the top of the gunnel is maybe 12 inches so that is not one of the hulls your talking about and it's at least 30 yrs old so I doubt it. I was a boat mechanic for 30 years and I saw it immediately but I'm used to it. Any wave behind a boat at 40 mph is more than 3 or 4 times that and you have a 1500 lb motor right at the transom plus whoever is in the boat too. I wish I could talk to the previous owner and I bet that's how it sank, stopping too quickly! And that lake was really deep way back then and not worth diving that deep for it. Hey Jeremy maybe the old owners will weigh in on it , that would add to the story right . Have a good man.
@jeremyhanna3852
@jeremyhanna3852 Год назад
@Dwayne T oh this boat is a bad design it's a sleeker 21ft day cruiser made in the late 70's I was just saying not all vintage jet have that problem its how the wave hits them when you stop a dominator or eliminator or a Hondo will float up on top of the wave due the rear attack angle of the boat

When he found the boat an made his offer on it, he went ahead and built a garage for it too. He's rebuilt both engines (salt water boat back to a fresh water) and had some Amish folk re embroider his hatch cover. At the Hemenway marina there's markers on the approach road and the 2000 marker is about a 1/4 to half mile from the water. There's a few boats, motors and body barrels out on boulder beach. There's been some bodies found, no doubt dropped by some goodfellas back in the 70s and 80s. Will be interested to learn how salvage rights work on found items like that. Should be an interesting lesson for all of us.

12:20 Hey Paul, small piece of advice for _maysuring_ stuff: your wingspan is equal to your height (for some people there may be an inch or two difference). You can use your extended arms as a rough ruler. You'd be surprised how often that comes in handy.

BOAT = Break Out Another Thousand. Lots of fun in your future just getting the paper work and legaleze junk. Good luck and thanks for sharing.

From somebody who deals with fibreglass. Watch out, with it being submerged in water for that long. There's probably a lot of osmosis in the hull (think bad wood rot) Just because it's fibreglass doesn't mean it can't rot.

It didn't rot

@@GreenTheScreen123 Merlin did mention the stringers are shot. Which I'm not surprised about, that's really common in boats that age. Also given the crack that was underneath, it was a real risk and concern.

My 2 friends and I had a boat Exactly like that one. My buddy Dave (buddy #2) had the hull, but no engine. My buddy Larry (buddy #1) owned a 1969 Olds 442 with a 455 high performance engine. And I did the all the electrical wiring and paint on the boat. We put the 455 in the hull which was V-drive, painted the hull metal flake, added new upholstery, and of course the 455 cu in engine. Man, that thing was fast. Coolest boat around! We wanted to put a Jet-Drive in it but ran out of summer! We had a great summer that year, 1978 I believe. At the end of the summer, we pulled the engine out of the boat and put it back in the 442. Good times on the Sacramento delta that summer! Looking forward to seeing your Yellow Submarine!

One of my sisters has lived in Page for decades and you can see Powell from her house. When I see the images and videos you and Matt post it just blows my mind on how low that thing is.

I thought it was going to be one of those amphibious cars with the propellers. I saw one at the lake in the'70s.
