You all are, (captains) masters of your field for the most part. It's like watching art in motion. I retired 40 years as a carpenter with my greatest accomplishment of trimming yacht decks and working as a marine Carpenter. Tolerance on my work was down to the millimeter. I guess my OCD paid off.
That year boat doesn’t have a joystick. Unless it was installed aftermarket. But it’s good to dock traditionally when possible, keeps the skills up and good for practice.
It's not complicated with twin engines, he is sweating too much for such a simple operation. Glad it brings him a feeling of accomplishment tho. The only thing to be careful of is not to give too much engine as the engines on Predator are crazy poweful.
Hey Tristan, I have a boat licence but I'm not very experienced. I want to know if I can skipper a 55 feet boat myself. It has all the modern technology. It's is shaft driven but controls are by a joy stick the same as pods. It has bow and stern thrusters and has remote docking and stern console with joystick. It also has a virtual anchor ... Skyhook. It keeps the boat in one place while you put your fenders out. Probably overkill for you, but thanks in advance. I often have times when I make a random decision to go out and I don't want to have to phone people to come with me. Can I do this on a 55 feet boat or am I pushing my luck?
Not at all. Can definitely be handled solo. Start by taking crew as back up but doing it solo until you're confident. Put rear dock line on first the outside engine ahead slow and the rear dock line will pull you hard alongside. Step off and secure the bow. Not sure about Med mooring solo though as we never do that here in Australia, side to its relatively easy solo.
