Sunset to Blue Hour on the CN Kingston Sub, Cornwall, Ontario

In this video we're heading north into Canada for some big mainline railroading. We catch a nice bunch of trains including a massive manifest, a VIA Rail express, and a local with a pair of Canadian National widecab GP38s.
Our location is the VIA Rail station in Cornwall, Ontario. The railroad is the Canadian National Kingston Subdivision. This line sees about 40 trains a day, slit roughly evenly between VIA Rail and CN freights. Don't expect to hear much on the radio that you can understand unless you speak French! There is a defect detector near the station, so it isn't beneficial unless you're a few miles away.
Thanks for watching! If you haven't already, please subscribe and hit the bell to stay up to date on my new adventures.

That local train near the end is the Brockville Local that operates between Cornwall and Brockville. The customers they serve in Cornwall are actually CP Rails customers which they are letting CN handle, they do interchange cars in Brockville. I could guide you on the trains in the area since I live around there

Elliott, what’s the symbol on that one? I do know 585 operates out of Taschereau to Maitland.

@@cliffwilkie4035 I don't really know what number it is, all I really care about is just watching trains the train numbers are not really that important to me

@@Elliottblancher my road interchanges with CN at Southwark. All of our Toronto block traffic connects with 321, the train shown in this video. I’ve been an industry insider for 26 years.

The local would have been 585 returning from Maitland to Montreal. The gasoline tank cars are empty & returning to Valero in Levis, QC. Normally 585 handles the loads on their run west from Taschereau Yard to a gasoline distribution terminal in Maitland.

@@cliffwilkie4035 I think I might be referring to a different train

Some great action-packed catches there Harrison! You didn't get the "Golden Hour" but what you did get more than made up for it! The club's got the train show tomorrow, should be as fun as usual!

50 Km not 50 miles!

😭 I am so unused to this… I also thought Canadian Railroads used miles for some reason, but maybe I’m wrong

Ahhh, that miserable metric system, cooked up by a pack of regicides!

@@NorthCountryTrains It's actually mph for railways in Canada. Check "Part II - Track Safety Rules - Subpart A - Classes of Track" from Transport Canada.

You should come back to the Cornwall, They Just did a Complete Make over of the Station's exterior recently and are replacing the Platform too. You will be left in shock to how much the Station has changed

Given the time of day & the traffic I saw on the westbound at twilight, this would have been 321. It operates out of Southwark Yard in Longueuil (just east of the Victoria Bridge) to MacMillan Yard in Vaughn (Greater Toronto). Normally departs Southwark for Mac Yard around 1-2:00pm.

You are right, Canadian railroads never bothered to switch to metric because of the cost. Sorry about that 😕 😬

Glad we’re on the same page. Respectfully, the metric system is great but for railroads, using one for both countries is definitely easier.
