This is one of my all-time favorite hikes in Arizona. It's found roughly halfway in between Phoenix and Tucson, just off I-10.
There are two trails to the peak, this is the longer trail that meanders through the beautiful desert backdrop to the mountain.
Two things to consider on this hike -
1 - Bring at least 3 liters of water. I brought 2 and ran out before I was back at the trailhead, and the high for the day was only 80 degrees.
2 - There are several sections of cable climbing. We're talking ~70-80 degrees of rock incline. It's no joke - bring gloves to grip the braided steel wires mounted into the rock.
There are also several...interesting spots on the climb that are exposed to a sheer drop - only holding you to the narrow trail by two lines of braided steel wiring.
If you can power through the hike and climb (combined they are of an extreme difficulty), the views at the top are incredible. 360 degree views of the desert around the mountain, I-10, and the partner mountain range across the interstate.
The climbing and views at the top make this a hike not to be missed in Arizona.
