Thanks! I've been thinking about how to use them in jewelry since some of these are big enough. Perhaps a light tumble and polish and then try some copper electroforming!?
This sunstone adventure is something I’ve been dreaming of doing for sometime! Thank you for the pointers! Can’t say this enough…you got what it takes to keep people interested EVEN if one isn’t a true rockhound! (What’s wrong with those people 😂) Blessings!
I think everyone was happy on this trip. Beautiful sun stones AND rabbits! LOL Good times for the whole family. I think you found some nice ones. These are absolutely beautiful faceted almost as pretty as diamonds I think! I'm not sure if it's allowed but I'd think maybe try digging and screening in a spot where you surface collected some big ones. Maybe there'd be more large ones in the area if you dug there? Maybe not. Thanks for sharing the trip with us!
Thanks Dustin! Yeah, the club does have a large sifting setup that they use in the pit where they have found stones with color and schiller. We can dig anywhere on the claim, so we probably just have to figure out where the bigger ones are.
You mentioned the Klamath club claim, we are from the coast, 7 hr drive, how do we gain access to the club claim? We had fun on the BLM, but the claim looks even better and having a group to belong to would make it even better yet.
We collected both places and yes, the claim stones were much bigger. We are new to the club, but as I understand it, all club members can collect on the club claim whenever they want to. I believe that you can become a member on the website: www.klamathrockclub.org. While we were there, our club president and her husband collected at Spectrum Sunstone mine, which is right next to the club claim. I think it was over $100 for mine diggings to hunt through on a huge screen table, but they found much larger and colorful stones than we did at the club claim. They do it every year, and one time she found a stone, had it cut and mounted in a gold ring setting. It is valued at $15,000.
Beautiful! Those look almost like "Gem stones". If they are tumbled will they smooth out and get more rounded? Love the fellowship of friends sharing a common interest.
