Super Atragon 1996 OVA Trailer 

Ah yes, the trailer we rewatched every time we bought a new VHS of Eva.

I remember this series and that was one of my favorite OVA which was released in this era, mid through the late '90s. This film was filled with such a high level of graphic arts and great cinematography to roar an excitement. Moreover, the score came along with scenes that are fantastically orchestrated which completely grasped my heart. For example, I really loved the comparison between the US Naval fleet and the Super Atragon (Ra-Goh) showed herself from the explosion of the iceberg, depicting the sense of wonder and reality that are coexisting. They did a lot of research on the actual US Navy`s present combat potential for production such as the launching sequence and operation procedures of the cruise missiles. Even the tracking monitors in the CIC on the Aegis destroyer were well-drawn to bring out solid realism. Too bad for me that this OVA didn`t go a high sales and was desperately underrated. Despite this consequence, the film itself is well scripted and contained well-drawn portraiture in battle scenes along with lots of research on both scientific and naval warfare strategy/tactics involved as I mentioned before. Add to this, there are some unique features and specifications to make the Super Atragon an attractive Sci-Fi mech. First, the ship's command bridge was designed and built as a gyro module so the bridge itself stays horizontally no matter how much the ship inclines. This is one of the distinctive features of the Super Atragon and I`m impressed! Second, the external structural modules such as the bridge, chimney, and artilleries on the ship`s surface can be retracted into the main fuselage to be hidden in case they need to be protected from being attacked and diving into deeper depth especially in immediate circumstances. This function appeared in EP2 which more Atragon`s combat capabilities and armaments are introduced. It is so sad that no further episode was made which I was dying to see with great expectation but seemed like the project to produce the series had been canceled and the plunged sequel never be surfaced. It`s been so long and so many years passed by, but we`re not ready to the mighty ship to say goodbye.

I think I'm going to check this out at some point.

I remember out of all of ADV's trailers, this is the one anime I did "not" want to watch lol. They usually did a good job of making even some of the worst anime, intriguing to watch, but Super Atragon just looked super boring lol.

On a scale from Naruto to Obscure how known is this anime?
