Well, here in Taiwan, this shit is real. Some folks sacrifice pigs to the gods on the 5th day of Chinese New Year, in order to gain favor and good luck throughout the whole year. It is believed that the bigger the pig, the better the year you'll have, so it's quite competitive among those folks. The highest record was that in the year 2012, the prize pig was raised to 1061 kilograms (~1.17 ton). Despite the criticisms on force feeding and animal cruelty, this tradition is still going strong.
