I first learned to fly in an L-13 Blanik out of the Lake Elsinore glider-port in '78 and although there are a lot of sailplanes which can outperform it, the L-13 will always be my favorite. Was going to build a Duster but Life got in the way - fortunately a very good one with four children and a Wife of forty-seven years who has always supported my hobbies from motorcycling to flying and recently bought me a Harley three-wheel motorcycle when we paid off our house - for the money 'we' paid for that bike I could have easily paid for a nice 'glider', so I decided to get rid of most of my collection of vintage bikes this year in the hope of locating a nice L-13 to pick up, so Time will Tell. Rattling are not it was an absolute joy to fly and I could always tell when I'd hit a boomer, not only from my bottom being pressed into the seat but the accompanying noise the ship would make as she leaped upward to find the top of a good thermal.
Indeed it is, great handling glider. Not the best performance out there but we do also have the optional wingtip extensions to improve the glide ratio a bit.
