Super Bowling Review. It is a video game for Nintendo 64 and due to this game being released near the end of the N64 lifespan, and there not being many copies produced, it has become one of the most valuable and rarest N64 games.
I picked this game up for $60 about 3 years ago. I love the music, especially the start menu, main menu, and the credits theme. Pretty decent little bowling game.
This remains one of my most favorite games on the system. In November 2013 I had just decided I was going to go after all 296 US released N64 games. Went to my favorite local spot for video games and found a copy for what was considered really cheap back then, even by 2013 standards when it would sell for maybe $30-40. I remembered reading it was quite uncommon and was pretty ecstatic to have a rare title in my burgeoning N64 set, alongside such elusive pieces like All Star Baseball 2000 and Automobili Lamborghini, LOL. I wouldn't realize just how lucky I was to find a copy in person that first ever game hunting trip... Eight years of game hunting later and I have never encountered another one since here in the Midwest US. I couldn't get the game to work right away and almost returned it, but was relieved when I finally managed to boot it up after several rounds of cleaning. Played through the whole game in a matter of hours and immediately loved it. Such a simple and modest yet addicting little game. My brother and I have played probably hundreds of rounds on the VS mode. I've followed the N64 collecting scene for almost a decade now and it saddens me to see how expensive things (especially this game) have become. I've got to be one of the biggest fans of this game out there, and I wouldn't be able to pay the going rate for this. I always wanted to get the box + manual to complete a copy of this game that I enjoy so much, but I'm not holding my breath anymore. Now at 295/296 N64 games and this still sits near the top of the list for me. I still play through it frequently, and have even posted the entire main game mode, as well as all the music from the game, to my RU-vid page. I care about preserving it that much. This game brings back the warm, fuzzy memories of my earliest days exploring the N64 library and of my earliest days of game collecting in general. It means a lot to me.
@@71dembonesTV Space Invaders! Not even an uncommon one or anything. I haven't picked it up yet because I'd love to come across the last one organically. It would feel cheap to just scoop it up on eBay without a second thought and finish it off so unceremoniously. I've got no problem patiently sitting back and waiting for an opportunity -- most people who complete the set seem to have done it many times quicker. Admittedly I also don't want it to end!
@@mpacz9987 haha nice. Is your collection CIB or just going for loose? Mine is loose but all good condition. I've gotten much of my collection thru ebay because most of the deals at the thrift stores and garage sales in my area get snatched up quickly! Still have found some treasures via Craigslist and what not. but ebay sniping has been good to me but, it has required patience to get good deals! Of course, whatever type of collection you're building; it doesn't have to end with the NA library! Lots of cool peripherals and Japanese exclusives out there!
@@71dembonesTV It is a loose set, but I've accumulated a good amount of boxes & manuals in my travels. I don't know if RU-vid needs another collection video, but I might post one to commemorate reaching all 296. Most of my cartridges are in pretty great shape too, mostly by dumb luck. Super Bowling, coincidentally, is probably the only one with serious front label damage off the top of my head. And you're totally right. There's a good chance I'll never be fully finished. I love having the original boxes and instruction manuals, and will probably remain vigilant in looking out for those once the cartridges are all finished off. I also started collecting for the Wii a few years ago, so I'll stay busy!
Retro gaming has gotten stupid expensive. I'm so glad things like the Everdrive exist. I think it was a little over a decade ago that I found my old N64, and a few other old consoles, in storage at my parent's. I was going to collect, but I gave up. I sold most of my games, and used the money for Everdrives, and just got a Retrotink, and now have a pretty good time playing good old games in my living room. I might not be a "real" retro gamer, but I have fun, and don't really see the benefit of having shelves full of old carts with dying batteries, when I can just have one cart that also lets me play translations and fun romhacks, too.
Also retrotink 5x is too expensive. I wish there was a 5x mini the same as the 2x mini without remote control..just simple plug and play and 1080p... $150 tops..
@@rblc86 I agree, it was more money than I wanted to pay, but I love what it does. So far I've only used it with the N64, Dreamcast and PS2, but they all look fantastic upscaled on the flatscreen.
I remember renting this at my local video store, the visuals and sound always stuck with me, it's still pretty unique for a bowling game. I feel somewhat bummed I didn't buy it when the store was getting rid of their N64 stock.
@@n64glennplant ? I come from the far distant future of 2008 and we have super high tech consoles here that run at a whopping 1080p called the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3.
Another quality video Mr. Plant! I appreciate the ones that involve games I didn't take the opportunity to play back in the day so thank you for doing what you do.
Sculptors cut is so high from years of hype and people believing that because it was a blockbuster exclusive it was rare. There are less copies of super bowling by a long way so it’s only a matter of time before it surpasses CF once people smarten up 😋
Great video! This is a cartridge I know I can't afford anytime soon. Will be saving this one for near the end of my collection so hopefully I can hit the later first!
That's the problem with the N64 world these days. The prices have just been so artificially over inflated. But I guess that's a hole other topic in it's own right. Though your review makes me want to revisit this one. Now where did I put my copy, Hmmmmmm
This is actually a very fun bowling game. Easy to learn but gets difficult pretty quickly. I forget exactly how but the "River" lane is broken and you can hit strikes every time if you stand in the right spot. Bought a new CIB copy from Japan for $10 shipped a few years back before the sellers wised up and started selling CIBs for $100 and up.
@@n64glennplant one of the many fun price charts out there! Mario 64 around April 2020 is one of the most remarkable events I've seen. Guess everyone wanted to play their favorite game one more time before the world ended. Stunt Racer in September 2016 raises an eyebrow too. No idea what caused that. Doesn't seem that there was any specific "e-celebrity" gamer that gave it attention or anything.
Even well-known games like Banjo-Tooie, Conker or Paper Mario cost absurd amount of money now. I'm not a collector and I'm not spending a significant portion of my salary on a single cart, unless it's Everdrive.
I've been waiting for a long time for you to review this. One of my favorite N64 games. I currently have the Acquisition Mode speedrun world record (that I've been meaning to try and improve upon).
@@Get_Low that’s a very good time, I think it took me about 3 hours when I captured footage for the review but I was trying to get some interesting shots not a speed run 😃
I don’t even bother collecting anymore. Market has gotten so ridiculous. But damn, 10 bucks for a cart only of this 10 years ago?!? That’s when I was heavily into collecting N64 games too.
I've been wanting to pick up the bowling games for 64. Happy to see this video Most expensive? Ouch. I only emulate games if I've played them physically so I will have to wait.
A bowling game is the most expensive Nintendo 64 game and even though the game play is ok it can be great If it gets on the Nintendo Switch Expansion Pack subscription just to try it out and see what's all the hype about. Cool video. ^_^
Is this the most Sega Saturn looking N64 game? It just reeks of 90's arcade aesthetic, I kind of love it. Why isn't there more outlandish bowling games with cool characters like this? I want to see a bowling game where you can cause an earthquake to get a strike or use telepathy to win a 2 pin split
Supposedly Bangai-o from Japan had just one print run of 10,000 copies compared to Scultors cut 20,000 I can't find any info on print runs of Super Bowling but I'd guess they're close.
I hate to sound like a 24 year-old boomer, but I miss the old days when you could actually pick games like this up for cheap, and the market wasn’t being overpriced for the sake of fraud (see Super Mario 64’s insane listing). Hopefully N64 prices actually become closer to what you’d pay for PS2 and OG Xbox games some day.
This game is ridiculously expensive now. I missed this game at a yard sale and my brother in law picked it up for $5 with another game. I was mad at myself. At the time a year ago it was $650, however he always gives me discounts or deals. I payed $400 for it. It's still ridiculous, but we all put are money somewhere like gold for example. I don't see it going down in the future either.
@N64 Glenn Plant cant remember which one it was, played it as a kid on a windows xp pc. All i remember was it was a basic bowling alley with a red bowling ball and typical old pre rendered graphics
I got this a number of years ago when I got a lot of the "block buster games" wasn't very much like 50 I think, fairly average to me for a bowling game.
I own this game, and my cartridge has a lot of history behind it, somebody send it from Nicaragua when their political crisis started like 7 years ago, I bought it super cheap, I think 20 o 30 dollars, and it was sold to me because the guy who was taks to sell it in my country didn't know anyone else who might care to get such an obscure title 😅
@@GamePatter collecting lost its fun around that time. Prices got silly and I don’t like clutter so to speak I like quite a minimalistic living style. Plus I’d already owned pretty much every game complete in box at some point so apart from moving to another console there was nothing left in terms of thrill of finding something rare
Was always bothered there was no option to turn off the LIVE camera. Fullscreen would have made this game way more replayable. But I just get tired of looking at that narrow screen after so long.
