Played this game in the summer all night studying every final bosses pattern & when I finally made it to Dracula, walking down that hall while the torches lit sent chills down my spine. Good times.
Wow, the sub-bosses were wrecked so easily that I feel like I must have been playing with each hand on the wrong side of the controller whenever I played.. I remember Slogra and Death in particular being a huge pain in the ass.
For me it was Slogra, who was the hardest. Harder than every other boss including his grand pappy, Dracula himself. I used to get sore thumbs on the SNES controller from trying to kick his butt.
One Time I was playing this stage in class, it was nearly the end of the school year, so the teacher didn't really care what we were doing. I got through most of stage B, and beat the first boss in the boss rush, and then one of my friends started watching me play. As he watched me, I killed that boss and got through death. When I got to Dracula, Another friend started watching me. The two watched me as I fought through his 1st and 2ndphases. I also had the music on, so when I got to the third phase, and theme of Simon Belmont started playing. When the beat dropped on that song, every single boy in the class was huddled around my computer as I killed his final form and tea bagged on the last bat.
Fact: If you look closely at the start of B-2 around 0:43, there's this spiked ring that Rove's around. If you take too long in any part of that area, it will rise up, moving back and forth, to try to hit you. If you get hit by it, you die and have to start the stage over.
That's what Me and Me Mother was Saiyan all these years lol. This Final Boss is easy in me opinion. How does food drop from a energy attack? Lol. Game Logic is to funny.
don't get me wrong, the game is still awesome. But.. why he didn't trasforms? D:

Davide Liuzzo I just completed the game yesterday. I really loved the soundtrack in that fight, it's creepy, goosebumpy stuff, Dracula himself was a joke. I am not that good at games like this, I died so many times in the last stage, but the final boss was really easy. Still, a great game, and finishing it was very satisfying, but Dracula should be more difficult and should have an other form I think.
I still don't get why nintendo, nor konami did follow up to super castlevania 4 hell instead what did get shitty ass port to castevania rondo of blood. Which honestly think could have ported over easy to snes as more powerful.
@@Kryptic1046 It's funny to think of how Richter actually played in Rondo, you'd think the Symphony re-telling was him hamming up how agile he was pretending he had super jump attacks, dash attacks and actually *running.*
the music leading to dracula when those blocks fall that sounded eerily epic, sound totally haunting, alot of.effort went into.this game, i love.castlevania music
The music leading up to the fight with Dracula, and then during the fight, how it changes to Simon's theme when you are close to the end, is EPIC. Damn, I forgot how good video games once were.
The first time I passed this game, and the ending felt so nostalgic. So many nights (learned my lesson, play it on daytime) spent trying to pass all stages finally came down to it.
@@michadrzymaa2206 oooh Yea!!!! I went 3 days with a sore thumb, trying to kill him while my good friend Simon somehow had an infinite amount of lives, and always resurrected way faster than Dracula.
Simon should have been the final belmont to finish dracula for good. Because his games are just epic and plus he is the one to use the whip in 8 different directions.
To be fair, we never saw Julius in his prime, when he finished off Dracula for good. We only saw him when he was in his late 50s, amd even then he was very powerful. Maybe his quest was even more epic that Simon's and he was also capable of whipping in any direction, we will never know because the game about Demon Castle War of 1999 never got made.
I still don't get how he killed Slogra without getting hit. Those lunges are nearly impossible to avoid. I guess it's a matter of timing your jumps during the second phase.
+Shadowserg I've fought Slogra a bunch of times, and one thing I discovered is that he occasionally CHARGES YOU IN HIS FIRST PHASE. You know, like how he lunges with his beak, only he uses his lance instead. Obviously, ducking isn't going to help you there. Maybe I was doing something special to provoke him, but if it's random, that means a bit of bad luck could ruin a no-damage run. I really hope this isn't the case. Slogra is one of my favorite bosses in the entire series, and would ruin it for me if the fight was luck-based.
@@earlfloyd4076 Castlevania 1999 is the game they talking about in Dawn of Sorrow and Aria of Sorrow, where Julius Belmont finally put an end of Draculas resurrections along with the castle. But it cost him his memories and bunch of other stuff. So it's a game that was never made before Konami pulled all game development and started to make slot machines instead. No one truly knows what happen more than they managed to separate Draculas soul from everything.
Dracula dies @ 5:25 quote "Come to terms quickly with your accuser while you are battling with him in his court, lest your accuser hand you over to the lower judges, and the judges to the keeper of hell, and you be put away " .destroy or be destroyed.
I remember watching a friend play this from start to end. When I saw Dracula I was "dude! Why the red hair?" Then when Dracula got destroyed there was this final bat trying to bite at simon's feet before falling over. Still a great game though
Connor Hoins and with the best playability with the directional and free whip that made the next castlevania ( before symphony of the night) awfull, example rondo of blood and the limp ritcher that makes maria renard superior to him
To be fair, the original Rondo of Blood came before Castlevania 4. The SNES port might've come later, but it's a port of an older, more polished game that deserves a lot more respect than what it gets. Also, Castlevania 4 was originally intended as a remake but it was far too different from the original Castlevania and was instead localised as a sequel to Simon's quest. Canonically that means this is a follow-up to Castlevania 2.
@@whitesonicex ok so this is a 2 year old comment so maybe soemthing changed but this game is a reimagining of the original castlevania with different levels but the same story much like rondo and dracula x but like those games only one is canon due to story changes but due to the lack of story changes 1 and super 4 are replacable and you decide which you want to be canon despite this being my second favourite castlevania (behind rondo, i've never played symphony) I prefer putting the original as the canon game.
i love this game and i replayed it alot when i was a child especially the boss fights at the end (all hail to the right passwords) 6:27 worth to note that their are invisible blocks in the bottom left corner, if you go there you receive all bonus items max iirc
DEATH: "BELMONT! Have a taste of my Flying Sickle Attack! There's no way you could possibly avoid all of these Flying Sickles! Muahahahahaha!" SIMON: "But, what if I hold my whip in the air?" DEATH: "D'oh!" TWO MINUTES LATEAE: DRACULA: "BELMONT! Have a taste of my Flying Magical Balls! They shoot smaller balls in a 360 degree spray if you whip them! So, you will die, now! Muahahahahaha!" SIMON: "Umm...your Flying Magical Balls turning into chicken. Hmm...maybe I SHOULDN'T eat chicken which came from Flying Magical Balls which my biggest enemy just summoned; because, that chicken is obviously magically poisoned. Oh...nevermind, it actually healed me." DRACULA: "D'oh!"
Ahh the great ole fight with Dracula. Love when you get Dracula angry. It always makes me laugh. I remember when I first encountered that. Great gaming memory.
Playing this for the first time was super painful, those spikes at the ceiling just before fighting the first boss...they just added salt to the injury
The best Castlevania. One thing I love these boss fights is the first three here then facing Dracula is like taking out the Elite Four, then face the Champion, in Pokémon.
Second best, its cheap deaths (like hidden avid drops behind UI elements etc) et muddled graphics only gets it a silver medal against THE best 2D Castlevania game ever : Castlevania Bloodlines.
@@plastique45 - I personally find Rondo of Blood to be the best 2D Castlevania. There's so many good ones though and a valid argument could be made for a number of them.
I remember when this game first came out I watched my friend play it nonstop until we had beaten the game. It took him so long to beat this final boss, it was a real challenge. Such a memorable fight though with amazing music. Man.. he made that Death fight look easy. God seeing that final screen with the castle crumbling was a humbling moment after finally beating this game.
i just played this sucker on emulation in windows XP using snes9x. i quit at the last boss. way too hard. and i used save states throughout the game. extremely frustrating. you have to play near perfect! not enjoyable that way.
@sukotsutoclone2, I don't think Simon had the energy. First of all he is wearing armor, so he has to carry extra weight. Second this is the last stage, so all of that crap you had to do to get to this point must have made Simon tired. Third, Simon doesn't get to rest. When you beat a stage, you get the orb, it goes to the map screen, and now Simon has to go through another stage.
The second Stage, the first boss and Drácula were a truly pain in my ASS. I want to hear someone says this game is easy, because I will retalaite back and tell you MY experience!
I played this on the castlevania anniversary collection and the only way I could beat dracula was by using savestates at the lightning bit, if I didnt use savestates it would have taken me weeks
Man, that’s some BULL. SHIT. right there. All those times I lost to Death and all you have to do is stand in one spot and hold the whip vertical. I’m so pissed right now lol
Just some cool, pre-fight dialogue ideas I came up with. Narrator: "Dracula watched Simon's progress with growing unease. The Belmont had faced incredible challenges, as well as the strongest evils the Count could muster, but nothing would hinder him. Simon was so determined in his quest that he would not take the time to rest even after the most exhausting of tasks. Now, as the stoic Belmont marched towards the Count's throne room, while dawn approached just as quickly, Dracula realized that something needed to be done." Dracula: "Death, I require your aid once again! The Belmont threatens everything I have worked for so far. You must end him at all costs. He cannot be allowed to continue!" Death: "Yes, my lord. It shall be done. Slogra! Gaibon! This Belmont must perish!" Shortly after, Simon reaches the Hall of Close Associates (the boss rush hall) and is confronted by Slogra. Simon: "Do not attempt to stop me, beast. I have slain far stronger creatures than you." Slogra: "I'm sure you have, Belmont. However, you'll still find me to be more than enough of a challenge, even for someone of your abilities. My speed is unparalleled, and I have mastered the art of melee combat. But enough mindless prattle, let our skills speak for themselves!" Later, before the fight with Gaibon: Simon: "You cannot hope to defeat me, creature. Much stronger foes have tried and failed." Gaibon: "Prideful and arrogant, just like those who came before you. Do not be so quick to dismiss those who you presume to be beneath you. I may not appear powerful or dangerous, but looks can easily deceive. Someday, such hubris will be your downfall!" And finally, just before the fight against Death himself. Simon: "Don't bother attempting to intimidate me. I fear Death no more than I fear any other evil in this castle." Death: "Ah, Belmonts. So unafraid of the concept of their own mortality - right until the very end. All mortal 'heroes' eventually meet their demise, what makes you any different? You fight over the course of centuries to defeat a foe who is unkillable in an endurance race you can never win. Even if you best me now, you will still end up under my control, sooner or later. However, I can tell that you are not the kind of person to give up even under impossible odds. In that case, Belmont, I welcome you. Come! Join me - as we dance the waltz of your demise."
at least you got to Dracula and Defeated him I got this Far but when I got to Dracula but I couldn't seem to Defeat him even after I got his Health Down and Simon's Theme Kicked in......😑😑😑No One say anything this is my 1st Time getting to Dracula!
Symphony of the Night is actually the 4th game, the true Castlevania 4 if you will, in the series. If you think about it... IV or 4 here on SNES/SFC, is a remake of Castlevania 1. 2 on nes is an extension, also starring Simon from CV1. CV3, or Akumajo Densetsu, is the 3rd game, but, it's a prequel. The main Belmont in that game is Trevor, an ancestor of Simons. In Rondo of Blood, the once Japanese exclusive, that latef came to America on PSP, that games main character, Richter Belmont, is a future Belmont after Simon. In Symphony of the Night, or Dracula X Nocturne in the Moonlight (Rondo of blood is called Dracula X in Japan), Richter is the main character, with a young Maria, that you can only unlock as playable after saving her. In Symphony, the game stars Alucard, playable in Castlevania 3. I make this comment for a large audience so they dont have to research it all to understand. I also write/ wrote this, so , I could confirm for myself, whether or not I was indeed the first person to call Castlevania Symphony of the Night, the true Castlevania 4.

Subweapons? 😂😂😂😂 I like that!! Good walkthrough. I always liked playing the grim reaper and then beating him. This music is still just as suspenseful as 30 years ago!
The best game ever made the first 4 games are still the best what I don't get is why the castlevania 2 simons quest is so easy and the rest are challenging and hard as crap
