There's something about older sprite art and sound effects that make these games all the more creepy.

If it weren't for the insane difficulty and limited continues, I'd say this is an underrated arcade classic.

The walking animation is a little along the lines of protagonist crapped his pants.

This game takes a lot of fuckin patience and memorization. Shit can kill you real quick. This guy makes it look easy, but that's literally how good to a certain degree you have to play these stages to beat the game.

The best "going up the stairs" animation in Castlevania games.

This game is actually very playable if you go into the dip-switches and turn the difficulty down to it's easiest settings. It's still difficult because you only have 4 lives to beat the game with, but it's doable. This guy is playing on the hardest settings where many enemies take away half your lifebar. On the easiest settings, everything only does 1 damage to you, so the traps aren't quite as big a deal. And this game is worth playing just for it's amazing music alone!

Who else came back her after seeing the improved remake?

Poor Simon. Humanity expects him to fight the forces of darkness and the Prince of Darkness, Dracula, himself... all while suffering from a gnarly case of hemorrhoids .

5:53 Bloody Tears 13:22 Theme of Julius Belmont Are my favourites from this game.

Oh sure, the sudden storm and the _lightning blowing up the cross off the church_ doesn't set off warning bells in Simon's head, it's Dracula dorkily flying in to swoop his newly-wedded wife up that causes him to strut across Transylvania for the next gas stop.

The opening fairly comes across as: "Oooo, a wedding buffet and happy meals on legs! My, I am being spoiled. Don't mind me, just grabbing myself some food, nice suit by the way. Ta ta, great service!

Poor Simon walks like he has to take a huge dump and is desperately trying to hold it in.

Stage 3 gotta love the "Bloody Tears" soundtrack. That has been my favorite track in all the Castlevania games I played. Easily recognized that right away. Never knew it was in here

The Belmont walk has always been so extravagantly animated for some reason.

14:31 Ok, so basically in this part you have to outrun the bridge that crumbles behind you, at the same speed of Simon, while attacking enemies that come your way. If you get hit, you lose ground, but if you attack you also lose ground... You can say this is a test of parsimony where you have to spare your offense and may take some trial and error to get it right. But notice how this dude did almost everything right and still got away in thin ice, AND that this is an (originally) arcade game and I can deem this design as pure evil.

I played this in Konami Arcade Collection on Switch. The Western version was impossible to beat, but the Japanese version was much more playable! Also, why does Simon look like he’s got a hip cramp? I know he’s simply carrying his weapon, but still.

i beat this game, it's actually pretty fun just requires practice, good heart management, and the stopwatch. it's also critical to use your credits to go into "tank mode,' boosting your health way up. this is preferable to having the extra lives in stead. also, having extra hearts at the end of a level boosts your health.

Awesome! How had I forgotten about this little gem. My grandparents had a caravan on the east coast of England in the 80s n 90s, and the camp shop had an added on arcade. I remember them having this arcade machine for one whole season and I played it every day we was there during the half terms and summer holiday. I probably enjoyed this as much as I did playing double dragon and golden axe. Wow! The memories.

The game doesn't seem that hard watching the walkthrough, especially Dracula at the end...but I will say that playing this at the arcade back in the day was pure frustration. There was no RU-vid walkthrough to know how to approach it. lol.

One of the worst Classicvania's released of its time. It's far too frustratingly hard and a little broken as well. I will say that the FM soundtrack is awesome though!

Stage 1: "And the world record for quickest death in a starting level goes to..." Stage 2: "What the fuck are these visuals!?" Stage 3: "Hey, a kickass remix of Bloody Tears- goddamn these fleamen!" Stage 4: "If there was any doubt remaining that this game's design was slapdashed together..." Stage 5: "It's Clocktower's Beat! Not Basement Melodies!" Stage 6: "How long is this bridge!? And why is Dracula throwing out knives from his crotch?"

Boy, talking about stacking the deck against the player...the zombies are wearing three piece suits, and all he gets are medieval weapons.

I can hear julius belmont theme on this game. my mind is blown. aria/dawn of sorrow are in my top 10 because Julius belmont is badass.

Stage 1's music was remixed for Portrait of Ruin, Stage 5's music was remixed for Dawn of Sorrow, the last stage's music became Julius' theme in Aria of Sorrow and Harmony of Despair :D
