That last paragraph always confused me. If Dracula came back every one hundred hears, and Simon Belmont gets called upon “once again” to destroy Dracula, has Simon Belmont been dead for one hundred years too and I’m playing an undead version of Simon? This thought, as a 9 year old, made this game so much better for me.
That's an excellent point. Did Simon acquire some kind of extended lifespan at the end of CV2, maybe? I haven't looked into the canon of that game, so maybe. But I really like your idea here. Why can't the Belmonts have the same resurrection magic as ol' Drac? It would also explain why the Belmonts are never just turned into vampires.
@@RedSpade37They don't have that same power because some of Dracula's powers come from the entity known as Chaos. His ability to resurrect through human malice is one of those powers bestowed upon him by Chaos.
They misplaced the Period after Countryside, should of been after "Once Again" Period... Then start the Paragraph with Simon Belmont, if that makes sense...
Yes, it was a mistranslation from the Japanese version as the previous poster alluded to. Simon Belmont was only called upon once in his generation. Well, technically twice, but that was only a couple of years apart for castlevania 1 and 2. Basically, Super Castlevania IV is sort of a retelling of Castlevania 1 on NES.
That's sounding good! I'm a composer myself and I always thought since I was like 16 that I wanted to make the credit's theme orchestrated for my funeral haha
My top 5 Dracula's themes: 1.- prologue/Dance of the Holy man (Super Castlevania IV) 2.- Overture/Big battle (Castlevania III) 3.- Sons of Satan (Castlevania 2 Belmont's revenge) 4.- Dance of illusions (Rondo of Blood) 5 Nothing to lose/Black night (Castlevania)
It keeps getting more sublime every time I hear it. Definitely better than the original, and that’s saying something considering how amazing the original is.
This is definitely the best orchestration I've heard so far. I especially love the 1:50 transition that you borrowed from the second theme without outright copying it. It relieves tension without "spoiling" it. Replacing the english horn? Bassoon? on the second theme with the horn section was a really good decision too--it really makes you feel that peril of witnessing an old evil come to life. My only real gripe might be how muddy the organ gets, but that might just be a VST thing. It didn't need to be the epic Hans Zimmer ostinato kind of thing that a lot of mainstream composers like to do and you showed what you could do without it. A lot of people seem to think that an intro to an action game should make us feel excited to kick the bad guy's ass, but Dracula was always meant to symbolize something deep and perverse within ourselves that we can only face with the greatest courage. I think what people forget about the original series is that Dracula is equal parts tragic and terrifying, both an object of horror and of pity. Of all the renditions, this doesn't lose sight of that feeling.
Thank you! Appreciate your comments. I agree, the organ does get lost in the mix, and drove me crazy while mixing. I ultimately just decided to let it go, as it sounded more natural letting it get lost at times. Giving it more prominence in the mix made it more monotonous and ostinato-y, which is fine in the original mix, but didn't work as well with more realistic sounds and a natural hall setting.
Hi! I just want to say that your interpretation is my personal favorite. It keeps the dark and ominous atmosphere of the theme. The other ones are also really good in technical terms, but none in my opinion matches the terrifying concept of having to defeat the literal incarnation of evil. Great work.
This is a perfect adaptation. You elevated the original. If not for hardware limits it would sound like this and you captured it and we get enjoy because of you. What i am trying to say simply is: fucking wonderful job dude. thank you for making this.
Im 44 years old. I was a teenager during the Super Nintendo era. Super Castlevania 4 has been dear to my heart ever since. This Dracula theme has always been my favorite of the Castlevania series. I'll never forget the first time i turned the game on and heard this. It stuck with me! This has to be the best rendition of this song i have ever heard. Well done man! I'm floored! 👏
Dude, same here. This comment actually sounded so much like me that I thought this came from some doppleganger(40)'s keyboard (pun intended, haha!) 😆 Well, only 42 years tbh
got chills around the 2 minute mark when the chorus entered. i hope we can see a properly remade version that captures the awe and dark, and sublime atmosphere of the original.
This song always gave me mixed emotions. It sounds like it will be an epic final showdown theme like many before but it actually takes a somber and depressing tone which is imo what makes this theme stand out when compared to say, Ridleys Theme from Metroid or Bowser from Mario Bros. And this remix stayed true to that feeling, cheers to you. 🤜🤛
Increíble adaptación para la mejor BSO jamás escrita para un videojuego. Enhorabuena, creo esto es justo lo que tenía en la cabeza el compositor. FANTÁSTICO. 👏👏👏👏
Nice version, congratulations I made a multi tracked version using only a modular synth, like Wendy Carlos (started a "switched on super famicom" project, that I never finished, maybe someday...)

I'm _very_ much liking what I'm hearing! Excellent work. Question, did you ever think about doing the up-tempo'd battle/fight version of this theme so that it could loop properly/play longer?

@@nigelsimmons I'm genuinely surprised they didn't use this theme during the height of his depression and his fight against his son. This theme really reflects both the shadow and light within Dracula's soul.
Imagine this theme playing when your fighting Dracula in a castlevania/dark souls cross over! Would be brilliant!! And yes I have been hoping and praying for a dark souls castlevania collaboration for ages!
@@Paulsie85 I would consider Blasphemous to be closest game to what you're describing. Definitely check it out if you haven't already, it's one of my favorites.
A brilliant reimagining of Dracula's Theme from SCVIV. Love the orchestral samples as well ❤, What DAW and orchestral vst's you use from back then to now, SCVIV is celebrating it's 30 year anniversary this Halloween 🎃💀👻. So you wouldn't mind remixing Demon Castle Dracula, Simon's Theme and Ending.
Thank you. I don't remember exactly what I used. VSL Woodwinds for sure. As for the other instruments, I think I used LA Scoring Strings, the free Leeds Town Hall Pipe Organ for Kontakt, and the very old Voices of the Apocalypse for choir. These days, though, I use the Cinematic Studio Series and choirs from Strezov.

FUN FACT: The main hook in this was briefly used in Castlevania: Lament of Innocence. You can hear it in the penultimate stage just before you face the final boss. Perhaps it suggests that Dracula himself wasn't always a bad guy?
its not at all. CV4 music shits on lament/sotn. stop comparing. those aren't even close. The motif isn't even the same anywhere, its just a similar sounding instrument
This series should dare to return to it's Gothic horror roots. Simon is needed once again. The anime style that slowly took over after SOTN isn't something I despise. It's just gone on too long at the expense of the horror elements that the series could show.
I completely agree. Funny, I was just thinking about this while playing Elden Ring, because that game reminds me of the great old Gothic Castlevania at times.
