I love the Pro Modified class of drag racing. The local drag strip where I live has them every so often, but the track is only 1/8 mile. Back in the 60s and 70s, it was a full 1/4 mile until safety had to come into view. The track wasn't long enough for the cars to slow down at the end. As cars got more powerful and faster, they had to shorten it to 1/8 mile. Huntsville Dragway in Harvest, AL.
to me it looks like some shake down passes or license passes ,single lane runs and no crowds or a testing session ? any how some nice looking engineering going on in here cheers
Holy crap dudes, that silver Camaro is out of this world. I hate Camaros so bad but that car is a beautifully engineered marvel. The thing sounds like a spaceship being launched. The orange one is gorgeous also, so is the Firebird. How can you not love a gorgeous car like that lol. Thanks for the awesome video guys, Pro mods are the best racing there is.
These machines are mean, nasty and in your face ( just the way I like it ). The fact that each of these things make anywhere from 2500-4000 horsepower with turbos, nitrous oxide tanks, superchargers or a combination it's truly amazing to me. It may be a bit of a stretch to say that I would be able to race one of those someday but it's nice to have dreams though.
Love those pro mods, they remind me of funny cars of years ago; a litte bit of variation with each one. The funny cars of today are identical in they way they are built etc.
It's official, ….I like pro mod racing even better than top fuel. Not sure why. Maybe because you don't have to have $5,000,000.00 to start a team and build a car. LOVE the silver Z28 @ 1:30, …it's my fav car in the video. I would trim that exhaust up a bit but other than that I thing it's the coolest car I've seen in a long time. very surprised that the all engine pro stocks can run as fast as the pro mods, but they do. I guess the weight difference and the bigger engine CC's make up the difference.
Awesome video! I'm still figuring Pro Mods out, and have a question for anybody who can answer. Prior to the launch on green, I've seen Pro Mods jolt forward for a split second. At first I thought they were just staging, but it's not the typical inching forward into the beams. It looks like a pretty violent jolt sometimes, the wheels spin a bit but not even a full rotation. Also it happens while the engine was being revved up pretty good, but they don't pin the throttle until after they are fully staged, right? I've definitely seen this more than once or twice, and I'm confused.
They are running alcohol/methanol on turbo setups now too though. They finally made turbos that can handle the 3k HP of pro mod is why you are seeing them so much now. Boost LOVES alcohol.
OK, I haven't seen one 1/4 mile pass so far...where are they? And most of these fellas haven't been able to stay on the pedal for an 1/8 mile pass. Some very slick looking race cars...all very big buck builds!
I really wish someone would do a video at the top end....not past the finish when they're slowing down but at the end so you see just how fast they are going...that would be epic...surprised no one has done that so far...every single video is from the pit at launch with them going in the distance...when is someone going to break that mold of this? everyone does it...be different!!
Ya I agree, when I go to the local races I split it between top end and starting area. Plus it's freakin cool to watch what 200-250+ mph looks like in real time. Oh ya.
When you see a car lurching at the start, that car is a turbo car. They keep the revs up to build boost, so when they inch towards the beams it's really violent.
Love Pro Mod. Lots of Camaros. You know what they say about Camaros being like A__ holes. Well these A__ holes go over 200 mph. Wish they showed more Top Sportsman and Pro Mod on tv. IHRA is showing love to these classes. Hope they can help promote it better than NHRA. Nothing like trying to watch ESPN and you have to wait for the end of a women's basketball game. I guess if you want to watch it when you want, YOU TUBE IT!!!
