Something I'd never realised is just how many ports, derivatives and spin-offs existed for Taito's full throttle ram 'em up. The SNES was no exception, receiving this console-only entry in 1992, and I guess it's reasonable enough.
The game opts for a first-person view, placing the player in the hot-seat of a turbo-powered persist vehicle. The formula for each stage is consistent with the original arcade, undertaking a break-neck dash through traffic to catch up with a fleeing suspect, then ram their vehicle repeatedly to disable it. You have the customary turbo charges at your disposal to provide a temporary speed boost, which are vital in the latter half of each stage.
Unfortunately, Super Chase H.Q. isn't particularly exciting or innovative. I guess if you enjoy the series then this might stave off boredom for a few hours, but it becomes rather dull before too long.

Game actually looks pretty cool on SNES. One thing I wish they'd added though, just for a cool visual effect, would be a subtle red-blue flashing on the front of the car or the screen or something when the sirion is hollering. It's probably technically not that realistic during the day, but it would just look cool, especially in the tunnels like at 7:24.

I think a little animation of the light glinting off the hood would be nice. Anything more than that would be very distracting if I'm being honest.

Seems like a decent arcade conversion. I can’t imagine paying $50-$60 for it when it came out, but it would’ve been great as a weekend rental.

I never understood why they had to change the original game specifically for the Snes? Just so Nintendo could get more licence revenue perhaps with the 'Super' prefix on those titles? Maybe.

Super Chase HQ actually exists as an arcade game, it's the third game on the series and I think this is a port of it. It does play on a first person view like this game and unlike its prequels. So this time maybe it's not just a case of Nintendo adding a "Super" to every game title on the SNES. The thing is, the arcade machine was a beast and there was no way the SNES could handle that. I really think they added the top of the car and that HUGE panel above so they had less game area so the CPU could keep up with it.
