Three exciting elements of racing! 1. We 'Close The Door' on a boat pinching them out of the start, 2. We almost hit the Race Committee Boat, missing by inches, 3. A bigger faster boat, fully powered up, comes charging through the pack.
Lots of air had us switching between the #1 and the #3, and when the wind died a bit at the end of the upwind, we slowed and got crushed against the moderns with roller furling headsails. Near the end of the race, the wind picked up worse, and we had to swap the 3 for the 1 going upwind so as not to blow out our nice racing #1. We lost big in this race, but it was fun and exciting, with great crew work.
My big miss was not having the camera on us JUST missing the Committee Boat- it was as close as you come.
Nice job for our Driver and our Tactician- ScottyB had him execute that last tack in a tough spot, and our start rocked!
